Australia ~ Cosmo's quick interview with Alex O'Loughlin

Cosmopolitan Celeb Insider
Don't Miss August Rush
We felt the fuzzies with this sweet-as story about a music miracle child, Evan Taylor (Freddie Highmore), who uses his talents to track down his parents who abandoned him when he was born. It's been a while since we got a 'magic-does-exist' fix, and we promise this fairytale-ish flick won't disappoint.
Keep your eyes peeled for Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (the parents), as well as Aussie actor Alex O'Loughlin (pictured with Meyers above). Hint: he's the spunky Sydney boy who's shacked up with Holly Valance in LA, and recently starred as a detective-slash-vampire in Channel Nine's Moonlight). We roped him in for a quick chat:
Cosmo : How's the Aussie-in-LA thing working out for you?
Alex O'Loughlin : I lived on a couch for a year and effed my back, but things are going okay now.
Cosmo : Were you bummed to miss out on the James Bond/Casino Royale role to Daniel Craig?
Alex O'Loughlin : I didn't think I'd get it, but being Jimmy Bond for a day was awesome! I had a tuxedo cut and was flown to London to shoot three audition scenes. One was a seductive scene with a topless Bond girl, and in another one I had to "assassinate" a guy!
Cosmo : You play an Irish muso in August Rush. Can we expect a duet with Holly [Valance] to hit the charts anytime soon?
Alex O'Loughlin : (Groans) I know you didn't just ask me that.
Cosmo : We did.
Alex O'Loughlin : Holly's fantastic, but no, not going to happen.
Cosmo : So spill: what's the most romantic thing you've done for a chick?
Alex O'Loughlin : I'm going to sound like a knob aren't I?
Cosmo : Quite possibly.
Alex O'Loughlin : OK ... I took her to a national park, built a campfire, and told her she would have to sleep in a single swag with me for the night!
Cosmo : That's original!
Alex O'Loughlin : I think I'm a fun boyfriend. I love living life and doing spontaneous things.
Cosmo : Aww. Can we keep you?

Can these 12 shows be saved?
By Mekeisha Madden Toby
It's time again to sit right down and write the networks a letter.
A dozen TV shows rest on the bubble and face cancellation, so if you're a fan of "Eli Stone" (ABC), "Aliens in America" (The CW), "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" (Fox) and "The Unit" (CBS), take a few moments this weekend and write network executives to try to save them.
Not into writing letters? Fans of "Las Vegas," which ended its fifth season with an unceremonious cliffhanger, are sending baby booties to the president of NBC in honor of Delinda and Danny's unborn baby. Such antics have been known to work.
Peanuts brought "Jericho" back for a second season. Although low ratings have killed it for good, a second chance is better than nothing.
CBS
"Moonlight" (returns 9 p.m. April 25): Mick St. John (Aussie-born actor Alex O'Loughlin) is no Angel, but he's a pretty handsome and pretty charming vampire all the same. A perfect fit with its schedule predecessor "Ghost Whisperer," all "Moonlight" needs is a few more weeks to excel.

Moonlight takes 86% of the vote in Hollywood Reporter poll
Recently, I told you about the "As the networks lock in their primetime schedule plans, which shows would you most like to see return?" poll on The Hollywood Reporter's website. They have already written an article declaring Moonlight as the winner ~ with 86% of the vote! Our response completely surprised them.... but it doesn't surprise me at all :) Way to go, Moonlight fans!
I was happy to read that The Hollywood Reporter feels the "odds look good for a pickup." On another point they made, I had to disagree a bit. They state Alex O'Loughlin being a "hunk" is the main reason Moonlight is so popular. That is not all our show has to offer. The engrossing & compelling story has us hooked! Of course, there is no arguing that hunk is definitely a word that can be used to describe Alex. However, that is not all he has to offer. He is also an extremely talented actor, along with having that elusive "It" factor. That comes naturally to him, while other performers dream of having it. Everyone in our cast ~ Jason Dohring, Sophia Myles, Shannyn Sossamon & Brian J White ~ are wonderful actors. They have brought the characters to life for us. We are fortunate to have such dedicated & talented writers, crew and cast working hard on our show. That is why I am addicted to Moonlight!
The video used to accompany the article has clips of Mick and Beth's desert bathtub scene from Fever (episode #1x04) & their visit to the lab in Love Lasts Forever (episode #1x11).
Fans foam for Friday fang fest
March 28, 2008
By Jenna Bordelon and James Hibberd
CBS' cult favorite "Moonlight" returns April 25 with four new episodes. The vampire drama is considered on the bubble for a fall renewal, but odds look good for a pickup.
And if fans have anything to say about it, "Moonlight" will live on forever. The Hollywood Reporter ran an online poll -- still available at www.thr.com -- in which we asked voters what shows they wanted brought back in the new fall season. We were not prepared for the response.
In overwhelming numbers -- 5182 out of 5958 votes cast as of Friday at 3:11 p.m. PT -- "Moonlight" flew away with it.
Like a bat outta hell, the vampires took 86% of the votes cast, while "Cashmere Mafia" only took 5% of the votes to put it a distant second.
Why? It's simple. "Moonlight" has a hunk. A hunk whose shirt is often unbuttoned way past the point of being comfortable. That's a character women can get behind, fangs or no fangs. "Why won't he bite me?" they wonder every week. Why not indeed.

Spoilers for Moonlight's new episode ~ What's Left Behind (#1x15)
As usual, do not read if you want to be surprised. Script subject to change.......
SPOILER ALERT!!! ~ Moonlight's Episode #1x15 ~ What's Left Behind ~ Airdate May 9th, 2008
Just as Beth was herself kidnapped as a child, a little girl is taken in this episode.... six year old Jess Fordham. She has been hearing noises and having nightmares. Of course, her family just thinks this is the usual afraid of the dark/monsters thing that happens with many children.
The vampire nation is concerned by her disappearance. Josef seems to know members of the little girl's family. He investigates her kidnapping with a woman named Sally. They search for papers at the crime scene. It looks like the papers are also missing.
ADA Talbot is investigating a classic car chop shop.
Coraline returns! She is researching documents, photos & blueprints at a library.
Is this kidnapping connected to Coraline's similar act with Beth? Or, is she still doing research for the "cure?"
No Mick and Beth spoilers for this episode.... or.... are the writers just messing with our brains?! :> Is "Sally" a code name for Beth? For that matter, is Josef actually going to do some investigating? Or, is it Mick? As we know, writers have been known to use code names to keep people guessing. I think it would be fun to see Josef and Beth working together tho.

Returning Favorites
[Friday] Moonlight
Returns : 4/25, 9/8c, CBS
Where we left off :
Private eye vampire Mick St John (Alex O'Loughlin) saw his fanged friend Josef (Jason Dohring) survive an assassination attempt. Mick's ex Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon), who turned him into a bloodsucker in 1947, gave him a cure that made him temporarily mortal - and ready to cozy up to reporter Beth Turner (Sophia Myles). But Beth might not succumb : After all, when her boyfriend was gunned down, Mick refused to save him by turning him into one of the living dead.
What's next :
"We've always suspected that there are doctors, lawyers, housewives and garbagemen who live among us as vampires," executive producer Harry Werksman says. "We are going to explore the pleasures of being human." Viewers will also learn more about Mick's past and watch him struggle to win back Beth. "As that happens we're going to introduce a romantic foil who makes her wonder if being with a human isn't the way to go," adds executive producer Gabrielle Stanton.
Dead again :
Mick won't have a heartbeat much longer. "As his vampirism returns, he'll have a much better understanding of his powers," Werksman says. "Where he once looked at it as a curse, by the end of the season, Mick will realize that being undead is something he can live with."
Episodes left : 4
Photo caption : Mick is alive and kicking - for a while
I have been saying that the temporary "cure" for his Vampirism should give Mick a new understanding and appreciation for his Vampire skills/powers. Glad to read that seems to be the way our writers feel too. :)

Repost ~
I have been thinking about the Nielsen ratings system and Moonlight. Obsess much? hahaha.... We are all loyal viewers of our show, but we don't count in the imporant numbers that determine if it stays on the air ~ just because we are not part of the Nielsen family. Do you know anyone who has one of their boxes? Grrr!
Something occurred to me. Why don't we contact CBS directly with our own ratings?!? Tell them that we watch Moonlight every week (many times on tv, DVR, online, Amazon, TIVO) but are not counted. It is an important message.

Don't get on the wrong side of Moonlight fans!

Ask Matt
Question :
As a huge fan of Moonlight, Lost and now Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I am so glad FX is repeating it on weekends or I never would've found and adored this show!), I love sci-fi. That's why I wanted to try New Amsterdam. Sorry to disagree with some of your other readers, but I am not a fan in the slightest. The first episode showed a tinge of promise — I thought it was interesting the way they were handling the immortal aspect, showing potential to become an original show. But by the second and third episodes, I was bored to tears. Some of those were tears of laughter because, honestly, some of the dialogue is just terrible! It's essentially a crime procedural with the slightest haze of a supernatural element. This is more for the CSI fan than the sci-fi fan, and even then, it is easily predictable and poorly acted. The twist with Omar came as a surprise, but then turned sour for me as I found the whole aspect of John's numerous children to be badly executed. Where is the pain in his eyes? He doesn't even act like a father! I won't be watching any longer, and I sorely wish that the far superior Canterbury's Law had gotten those prime post-American Idol slots. New Amsterdam may be a "supernatural" show, but the holes in the plot are way too huge to avoid. I've definitely fallen away from this one. — Angie L.
Matt Roush :
I agree that the procedural part of the show is the weakest. It's generic in every way, but I'm still relatively intrigued by the way Amsterdam's longevity and his knowledge of ancient New York plays into the cases. But back to the bashing, as Connie L. chimes in with this even harsher critique: "The flashbacks, which a lot of people seem to like, are artificial and boring to me. Mr. Amsterdam is not what a man who has lived 400 years would be. Where are the wrinkles from so much loss and grief? Yes, he's 35 or so, but he's been through so much death and pain that I don't see! I can't get past that at all. I want someone to shoot him, stab him or just have him fall off a building so I can see what happens. How does he stay alive and how does he deal with the people that see it happen? And a point his grandson made, which I can't get out of my head, is what if someone cut his head off? Yes, what if? He does not act like a father or grandfather at all. I want to see feelings, and he doesn't have it. I see this show as a crime show with flashbacks, nothing else. Mr. Amsterdam is no Mick St. John. I'll take my Mick any day. In fact, I'd like Mick to stake Mr. Amsterdam and cut off his head."
Lesson here: You really don't want to get on the wrong side of Moonlight fans.
Hahahaha......

Moonlight & its great fans mentioned in two Zap2it website articles
Fans shouldn't blame CBS for cancelling 'Jericho' again
Want somebody or something to blame, Jericho fans? Try Moonlight. The Friday night drama has consistently drooped in ratings between Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs delivering an audience which, under normal circumstances -- this being the network that cancelled Close to Home, which would have been a hit anywhere else -- wouldn't be enough for renewal. But I have to believe that CBS is terrified by the dedication and level of obsession from the Moonlight fans. If the network's going to pick up one low-rated drama for next year, it'll be Moonlight, because CBS would rather weather another sea of goobers than deal with irate care packages full of blood.
Can I just say that I agree with y'all on one thing: The ratings system is a crock. If you want to make your fortune, develop a better way of measuring TV audience size than what Nielsen currently does. You couldn't do worse. But TV networks can only do business with what they have available, so your letters that start with "I watch Jericho religiously and so do my 100 best friends and none of us have Nielsen boxes" really won't have much of an impact. CBS tried to do business a different way this past year and you got seven new episodes out of it.
That's not bad.
Ask angry fans of Journeyman or Drive or Firefly if they would be satisfied with another seven episodes. Jericho fans probably shouldn't complain to Cane fans about CBS not giving them enough of a chance to find an audience. Airing in the Tuesday death slot, Cane averaged 8.9 million viewers this season, but nobody invited Cane to make new episodes after the strike ended. In that same time slot, Jericho averaged 6.8 million viewers.
My point isn't to malign the most passionate of Jericho fans or to rub salt in the wounds so soon after the last salt massage.
The point is just to say... Why the anger? Again! I understand sadness or frustration or a little bit of resignation. But why so mad? Two DVD sets with 29 episodes? That's not so bad. The Prisoner only aired 17 episodes. Fawlty Towers aired 12. My Freaks and Geeks DVD set has 18 episodes, one more than my Undeclared set.
Why should Tuesday night be about venting your spleen at CBS, at the tastes of American viewers at Nielsen?
Why not just say good-bye to Jake and Hawkins and the rest of the gang?
There'll be plenty of new shows to obsess over soon enough, at least until they're cancelled.
http://tinyurl.com/ytjtgh
Zap2it mentions Moonlight in another article. We've all been concerned about the ratings for the Price is Right specials that CBS has been airing on Friday nights.
The network's "The Price Is Right Million Dollar Spectacular" specials have been performing so well on Friday nights that CBS wants to milk the Drew Carey franchise for all its worth, ordering for new primetime specials for May sweeps.
Don't worry, though, "Moonlight" fans. These new "Price Is Right" installments will air on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m., the slot currently occupied by "Big Brother -- 'Til Death Do Us Part."

Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring on EW's TV Characters You'd Date list

Because I have absolutely no problems with dating an extremely hot dead guy. — Catherine

LOGAN ECHOLLS (Jason Dohring) and VERONICA MARS (Kristen Bell)
Veronica Mars
Some folks have mentioned the boys from Veronica Mars, but no man has stepped up to the plate to take V herself. I heartily volunteer. She's smart, hilarious, and a sassy lady. What's more to ask for, oh wait she's a bombshell. Annoy me, tiny blonde, annoy me anytime! — Seth
Both of our boys..... Alex O'Loughlin and Jason Dohring.... appear on Entertainment Weekly's list of TV Characters You'd Date. Those who made the cut were selected by the EW readers. Of course, the question is about their television alter egos. Moonlight's Mick St John for Alex :) The editor did misspell his last name as O'Laughlin tho. I fixed it here, and emailed them the error. Can you imagine how many Moonlight fans they have heard from about that? ha!
Another reason I emailed EW.... They chose to focus on Jason's work as Logan Echolls on Veronica Mars instead of as our Josef on Moonlight. I wish they had listed both roles for him. However, I am happy Jason is on the list period because he deserves it.
What girl doesn't dream of being a willing freshie for either of these magnetic men?!

SPOILER PHOTO ~ Alex O'Loughlin/Mick St John wallpaper from Moonlight's Fated to Pretend

Sorry that Jericho has been canceled :(

"Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more. We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long, and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew that went through creative hoops to deliver a compelling, high-quality second season.
We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen. We're proud of everyone's efforts."
For its six episodes (the series finale will be its seventh), Jericho averaged 6.8 million viewers. The finale airs on March 25th.
This just highlights something we all know.... ratings are a must to keep our show on the air. We need to not only promote Moonlight online but continue reaching out to people in the "real" world. :) CBS is waiting to see what kind of viewer numbers our next four new episodes pull in before deciding on Moonlight's future.
I really like this photo of Lennie James and Skeet Ulrich.

Entertainment Weekly features Moonlight in their Spring TV Preview
Entertainment Weekly's website has included Moonlight in their Spring TV Preview. Sooooo interesting to read what Gabrielle Stanton & Harry Werksman hint is coming up for our show. I like the writer's description of "where we left off." She summed it up in just a couple of sentences. I had the same feeling of don't blame the Vampire! ha!MOONLIGHT
APRIL 25 · 9 PM · CBS
EPISODES LEFT: 4
WHERE WE LEFT OFF: Girl meets vampire. Girl flirts with vampire, but still loves boyfriend. Boyfriend gets shot, and vampire struggles in vain to save boyfriend's life. Girl blames...vampire?
UP NEXT: Beth (Sophia Myles) ''really wanted [Mick] to turn her boyfriend into a vampire'' to save him, explains exec producer Gabrielle Stanton. She also has a brief opportunity to be with Mick (Alex O'Loughlin), now that he's temporarily human after taking ''the cure.'' ''There's going to be a little tension,'' vows exec producer Harry Werksman, who adds that we'll soon see a lot more average folks who happen to be vampires. ''Very happy, nice people,'' adds Stanton, ''buying their blood legally.'' —Alynda Wheat

SPOILER ALERT ~ CBS releases more promo photos from Fated to Pretend (episode #1x13)

We must have been really good kids cuz CBS has released more photos from Mick and Beth's beach scene in Fated to Pretend (episode #1x13). After all this time, we get to see our Mick enjoying the sunlight and ocean with an open shirt. *swoon* Worth the wait!
He is still wearing his lovely Fleur De Lis/Fleury Cross necklace. I hope we do get the backstory on Mick's jewelry in a future episode, as Alex mentioned.
Check out that spread of healthy food. Beth is trying to help Mick enjoy his human time.... and apparently doesn't want him to get a pot belly from fried chicken. ;)
The official CBS episode description states "Fated to Pretend--" Still "alive," Mick (right: Alex O'Loughlin.) enjoys what time he has left as a human by repairing his relationship with Beth (left: Sophia Myles), on MOONLIGHT, Friday, April 25 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Fan Video ~ Whatever Lola Wants ~ Tribute to Holly Valance as Lola
A fan video about my bad girl Vampiress Lola! Lilly uses the "awesome" scenes from Holly Valance's performance in Moonlight's B.C. episode (#1x06). She even creatively incorporates clips from Beth's attempted seduction of Mick to make it appear that Lola is the one seducing him. Of course, the song is Whatever Lola Wants by Sylvia Pilar. I really hope we see more of Dolores Maxford Whitaker, & the stunning Holly, on our show!
I couldn't resist using "awesome" because of Lola's quote ~ "Evil's a word that gets tossed around a lot... like great or awesome," which is a favorite of mine :>
Supporting Moonlight by getting our cast booked with media outlets
When calling the network, we are being told that CBS will make a decision about Moonlight's future in mid-May. It is obvious that they are waiting to see what happens with the four new episodes that will begin airing on April 11th. This gives us plenty of time to fight to save our show! We will work together to get Moonlight renewed for a second season :)
Fortunately, we are blessed with such a charismatic, good humored and interesting cast. We just need to get them booked on the talk show circuit and profiled in magazines. Think about it.... Alex O'Loughlin, Sophia Myles, Jason Dohring, Brian J White & Shannyn Sossamon chatting and laughing with Ellen or Conan or Jay or any host. New fans will not be able to resist! Plus, I guess us old Moonlight fans wouldn't mind seeing them on tv too much. *wink*
Let's write, call and email all of these media outlets to promote the new Moonlight episodes. Get those ratings even higher by capturing fresh viewers!
Day Time Talk Shows
I have said from the beginning that having the entire cast interviewed together would be amazing. They have such wonderful chemistry! Oprah often chats with the entire cast from television programs and movies. Another thing to keep in mind is most of her producers are women. If they are not already in love with Alex, Jason & Brian, they soon will be when we bring our boys to their attention! *grin*

Mesmerizing fan video dedicated to Jason Dohring as Josef
Love it! Tuesdayangel has created a wonderful fan video dedicated to Jason Dohring as our Josef. Great Moonlight scenes that make me miss him even more.... including shirtless Josef... YUM! She chose the perfect song to go with the images ~ Mesmerized by Faith Evans. I hope we are given lots more Jason on Moonlight in the future. Is it April 25th yet?

New Photo Wallpaper of Sophia Myles as Beth Turner

UK's Sunday Express interviews Sophia Myles

As in other interviews, Sophia has only good things to say about Alex. We are very fortunate to have a cast that gets along this well.
One thing she mentions is possibly going home to London for her bday. Since filming has started again on Moonlight, she may not have gotten her wish. Hopefully, she went before production resumed last week.
Moonlight becomes her
English Rose Sophia Myles has bloomed in Hollywood - thanks to a pop star boyfriend and a top-rated new drama series
By Olivia Robinson
Being dumped by Doctor Who can't be any girl's idea of fun. And when David Tennant called time on his two-year relationship with Sophia Myles in October last year, citing her move to the States, the actress was reported to be "heartbroken."
But today, on a bright, sunny LA morning, all that seems a universe away. Far from moping, the 27 year old Londoner is in buoyant spirits. And she's reportedly dating again - the lucky man being bass player Paul Wilson of Irish band Snow Patrol. So will she talk about her new love?
"Oh, you mean my puppy," she smiles. "He's a little black and tan terrier called Jackson, and he can't leave the United States for six months, so I stayed here with him and went to the beach on Christmas Day. I had a very quiet, gentle time. I was amazing."
We'll take that as a no. But she's more forthcoming about Australian heartthrob Alex O'Loughlin, her co-star in Moonlight, the US show for which she crossed the pond and left Time Lord Tennant behind. "I can't speak about Alex highly enough. He's like an older brother to me and we laugh constantly," she says. "There's something about a Brit and an Aussie together. It's a good combo. We're outrageous. Sometimes the Americans don't know what to do with us."
Their friendship is purely platonic - Alex is dating Australian soap-star-turned-singer Holly Valance - but there's no doubting that the sparks fly between them on screen. As private investigator Mick St John and Internet reporter Beth Turner, they are the could-be couple who launched countless YouTube videos and helped Moonlight win the People's Choice Award for favourite new TV drama last month.
The fact that he's a reformed vampire who rescued her from kidnappers as a child and has pined for her ever since has only added fuel to the fire. "The love story is so interesting because he's immortal," Sophia explains. "And the chemistry between Alex and me seems to work. It's one of those things that everyone wants. Money can't buy it and there's no logical formula to create it. We're lucky, the sum of the two of us works really well. In fact, this is the most amazing job on earth and I'm having the most amazing time."
Sophia grew up in west London where her father, Peter, was a vicar and her mother, Jane, worked in publishing. She was spotted in a school play by actor and Oscar winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park), who put her forward for the part of Lady Jane Grey in a BBC production of The Prince and the Pauper.
She loved the experience so much that she decided against following her mother to Cambridge, where she had a conditional offer to study philosophy, preferring instead to pursue acting.
Her down-to-earth demeanour and classic English rose looks soon won her a reputation as the next Kate Winslet. "The comparison has been made for as long as I can remember," says Sophia, "and it's a delightful one."
A number of period dramas followed, including TV adaptations of Oliver Twist and Nicholas Nickleby, a small role in Foyle's War, as well as film parts in Mansfield Park, The Abduction Club and From Hell with Johnny Depp.
But then, at the age of 21, she took the big decision to try her luck in Hollywood. "I wasn't getting enough work in England, so I came over with 200 in my pocket," she recalls. "A friend of mine was house-sitting for someone so I lived there for free for a month."
Fortune smiled on Sophia when she won a bit part in the 2003 vampire movie Underworld, with Kate Beckinsale. She also appeared in its sequel and was hailed as the next big thing when she landed the role of Lady Penelope in 2004's much hyped live-action update of TV classic Thunderbirds.
The film proved a disappointment and, though Sophia received good reviews, her professional achievements were soon overshadowed when news spread of her affair with actor Charles Dance, 34 years her senior. Coinciding as it did with the end of his marriage to his wife of almost 25 years, the liaison - albeit brief - caused quite a stir. Sophia maintained a dignified silence on the matter, resolving to avoid the celebrity gossip culture at all costs and keep the focus on her work.
She has now signed a six-and-a-half year contract for Moonlight, and has settled in LA for the foreseeable future. "This is the longest I've ever been here," she reveals. "I've decided that, at this point in my life, I can't really call any country or any house in particular my home."
"I have a flat in London and I have a place that I'm renting here, but I've been a globetrotter since I left school. I don't really live anywhere but I do feel very welcome in Los Angeles."
No that she doesn't long for the comforts of home every now and then. "Homesickness comes in waves," she says. "I miss simple things - I was having Pizza Express cravings the other day. I miss the accent, the dry sense of humour and I just miss the smell of England. It's home."
She's planning a trip back for her 28th birthday, but in the meantime she's hardly short of home-grown company, thanks to the wave of Brit stars including Damian Lewis, Michelle Ryan, Jonny Lee Miller and Lena Headey who have taken over American television of late.
"It has been the invasion this year," Sophia laughs. "I'm thrilled that everyone's doing well. I've become very good friends with Anna Friel, who's out here doing Pushing Daisies. She and I have become comrades, giving each other advice and help as we've gone along."
"We both left messages on each other's answering machines, having meltdowns, freaking out that we were so tired and we didn't know whether we were going to survive. She's just bought a lovely house here, so I go and see her and hang out."
But doesn't she miss her old mates back in the UK? "Of course I do. It's kind of hard when I'm working, but I've had mates out and I'm going to have more people come over. The right relationships are going to stand the test of time. Real relationships will function no matter where you are in the world."
Did you hear that, Doctor?

Happy Birthday, Sophia!

Which show's fans are the most rabid?
Question :
I think the recent letter comparing New Amsterdam unfavorably to Moonlight is a little unfair, considering the only episodes out at the time were the pilot and the second episode. The pilot of a new series is never the best episode and it usually takes a few episodes for me, at least, to really become a fan of a show. I watch Moonlight, and it wasn't until Coraline entered the picture that I thought the show was better than mediocre. I've now seen the first three episodes of New Amsterdam and think that it has definitely improved over the pilot and people should give it a shot (especially the fans of fellow immortal crime-fighter show Moonlight). I don't have high hopes that New Amsterdam will get renewed, given Fox's treatment of it so far, but any small smidgen of hope that it will indeed get more episodes? Also, do you think Moonlight fans are becoming the new Supernatural fan girls? I absolutely love Supernatural, but even I am scared of its fandom (and a friend of mine is so scared of the fandom that she is wary of getting into the show). I'm really surprised by the fervor of the Moonlight fans on the Internet; to me, they seem to be approaching Supernatural-level obsession. — Bonnie C.
Matt Roush :
Seriously, you want me to go there?!?! I am not stirring those cult waters. Suffice it to say that nearly every cult show has its ferocious online following, and they're often very unforgiving to any newbie that dares to step on their turf. (I will spare you the Blood Ties-beats-the-pants-off-Moonlight letters I regularly get.) I've said before that it's too early to know one way or the other about New Amsterdam's future. You're probably right not to get too attached, but you never know. Fox can't be expecting miracles now that Dancing with the Stars and Two and a Half Men have rejoined the time period.

Spoilers for Moonlight's episode #1x14 ~ Click
SPOILER ALERT!
Buzzwire gets a new editor ~ Grant Lewis ~ and a new name ~ iTalk. Grant is not worried about ethics & whether or not a story is true. He wants to scoop TMZ, Ain't It Cool News, etc.
One of the paparazzi starts to notice how "unusual" Mick is.... the only person not eating or drinking in photos from the Ivy, etc.
This episode really reminds you that Moonlight is set in LA.
Beth is doing a story about the paparazzi, which ends up bringing her & Mick together.
Grant wants reporter "Ann Booker" to get the story of an actress who is said to be cursed, Tierney Tate. Mick happens to be looking after Tierney. Many assume he is her new boyfriend ~ including Beth?!?
Mick & Tierney end up at a bar where they run into her on again/off again boyfriend, Scott.... AND, Beth there with another man.
Tierney ~ "Hey, isn't that your friend?"
Mick turns to see who Tierney's talking about. He's surprised to see Beth at the bar with Jason Abbott. Alongside him, three dark suited men with grim looks on their faces.
Tierney ~ "I saw you with her at the Ivy."
Mick ~ "Yes. She's..... a friend."
Tierney ~ "Maybe more than a friend?"
Mick ~ "Are you getting jealous? We had something before, but it's over now. (beat) It's complicated."
Tierney ~ "God, I hate it when guys say that."
She shoves Mick towards Beth with a smile.
Tierney ~ "Go talk to her."
Tierney is a force that cannot be denied. Mick moves towards Beth. She sees him, and he nods towards the outside deck.
Just thinking...... We have never been introduced to any of the other Buzzwire reporters. This episode's script mentions someone named Ann Booker. Is this simply a code name for Beth? Perhaps, the writers are trying to disguise her role in the sides that were released for the new character, Grant Lewis. One of his exchanges with Ann is him saying that she has "a real instinct for the offbeat." That sounds like Beth's stories. Also, the paparazzi (Dean) who becomes suspicious of Mick contacts Ann threatening to investigate &/or expose Mick if she doesn't do what he says. She seems to be upset by his phone call. Why would she give in to his threats? To protect Mick? That implies that she already knows Mick's secret, or that she is suspicious too. Another possibility is that Ann is a new character being introduced to add tension to the MickBeth romance, like ADA Talbot. What do you think?

For those of you who missed it before, I'm reposting the tv commercial Alex did in 2003 for Libra Tampons. Of course, it is the ad mentioned in his interview from my preceding post. He is too adorable and young in this :) "Mousey, Mousey! What?"

Matt Roush is asked why CBS moved Moonlight's return from April 11th to the 25th
Question :
I'd like to know why Moonlight's next new episode was moved from April 11 to April 25? Are they simply not ready with the shows, or is it because of the replacement for Chip?— Sam
Matt Roush :
Given the behind-the-scenes chaos on this show, I'm thinking fans should consider themselves lucky with whatever they get whenever they get it. I don't know if production concerns are behind the delay, but practically speaking, it makes more sense for CBS to hold the episodes so all of the originals air during the May sweeps, which is what looks like is happening.

Hollywood Reporter gives hope to Moonlight fans by saying renewal is "probable"

At this point in the season, the strictly defined countries of "renewed" and "canceled" have acres of gray area in between. A couple dozen shows are clustered near the border, on the verge of being declared dead or alive for next season.
-- "Moonlight." CBS is playing wait-and-see with this Friday night show. The network is curious whether the show's fans return once it comes back from its strike-induced hiatus. But Moonlight fans are passionate, the show fits well into CBS' Friday night alternative crime block and an eventual pickup is probable.

Another new Moonlight video from CBS ~ The Human Experience
The second new video CBS made for us is titled The Human Experience. "Everyone's favorite, sexy immortal gets a taste of what it's like to be human again." Scenes from The Mortal Cure (episode #1x12) are used. It still makes me giggle to see Mick pigging out on that table laden with food.
New Moonlight video from CBS ~ D.I.Y. Vampire Spotting
WOW! CBS Eyelab has created not one, but TWO new Moonlight videos! They just released the clips a couple of hours ago.
This first video is titled D.I.Y. Vampire Spotting. "Your trusty friends at the EyeLab have come up with a sure fire way to identify vampires. Maybe if you're lucky, you can find one as sexy as Mick St. John!"
How to spot a Vampire....
1. What big eyes and teeth you have
2. Hey your heart's not beating
3. SPF infinity?
4. Cupcake test
5. So you don't have a bed?
6. Wow you can jump higher than M.J.
7. Did you get work done? Or are you immortal?
8. When in doubt burn 'em

Ausiello confirms Moonlight is NOT the "bubble show about to burst"
First.... here is his post that caused all the distress ~
If this blind item gives you a nagging sense of déjà vu, there's good reason: It's nearly identical to one I posted last year at this time concerning a beloved comedy that was on the verge of getting the ax because it lacked a key supporter at the network that aired it.
Cut to March 2008 and a similar situation is playing out with another wildly popular series, only this time the dispassionate network bigwig has a different name and the bubble show in question is a one-hour drama. According to my spies, said suit's beef with the series (which may or may not be on the same network as that other series) is twofold: He/she thinks it's creatively overrated and, more importantly, it's underperforming in the ratings (particularly given its budget).
And as bad luck would have it, this is the very person the program's top exec had to sit down with last week to pitch next season's potential hot plots to! One can only imagine the number of (Crickets) present at that meeting.
The good news? Not everyone at the network is hating on the endangered series. Plus, the plug hasn't been pulled yet!
Now, the response ~
Question :
For my sanity's sake, please tell me the "Bubble Show About to Burst" is not Moonlight. — Nicole
Ausiello :
Oh, that reminds me. I promised you guys a major clue, didn't I? Hmmm… let's see…. I can confirm that the bubble show at the center of my latest blind item is not Moonlight. Or any other show on CBS, for that matter.

Sophia Myles photos from the 10,000 BC movie premiere in LA

Matt Roush gives his opinion on whether or not CBS is trying to kill Moonlight
Question :
Does it seem to you that CBS is actually trying to sabotage Moonlight? I mean, instead of repeating it, they put on The Price Is Right. Even if they wanted to air the game show, rerun Moonlight at 9 pm/ET in its regular slot, or even on another night to perhaps pick up a new fan base. I just watched New Amsterdam on Fox and frankly was unimpressed. I'll stay with it a while longer just to give it a shot, because I like this genre. The star (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is a good-looking guy, but he really does not compare with Alex O'Loughlin. Does CBS understand what a gold mine they have in him? Granted, the character of Mick St. John is sultry, but the real draw is O'Loughlin's drop-dead gorgeous looks and style as an actor — he actually makes Mick funny. You can't help but love the character. His smile lights up the screen. Honestly, if they cancel Moonlight, it would really be a shame, because it's on the verge of an extremely interesting storyline and the fan base seems to be huge. Could another network possibly pick it up (like Forever Knight)? There are so many twists and turns this show could take. Perhaps they should do an end date like Lost, where Mick either dies (heaven forbid), becomes human, turns Beth or realizes that Coraline is the one for him and they stay vampires together forever. Any thoughts?— Debbie
Matt Roush :
Beyond advising you to take a deep breath and calm down? (Although this kind of advice recently got me in hot water with Supernatural fans.) As I've suggested before, if CBS really had it in for Moonlight, the show would already have a stake in it and you wouldn't be getting four new episodes next month. The current hiatus is a result of the strike and is more about CBS preserving the series from repeating the same handful of episodes over and over, which tends to diminish a show's overall ratings average. (The hardcore Moonlight fan may have no problem watching episodes repeatedly, but most people don't watch TV that way, and that's what video recorders are for.) I agree with you about Alex O'Loughlin's appeal. He's been the show's main asset from the start. (I also agree he's more fun to watch than New Amsterdam's more reserved immortal hottie.) The fact that the show remains in production, despite a fair amount of behind-the-scenes chaos, is a sign to me that CBS would like to keep this franchise going and that the network is aware of what a keeper this star is. Just because you don't agree with a programming decision doesn't mean they're out to kill it. (If you want to see an example of a network actively doing its best to harm a show, check out what's happened to ABC's Men in Trees.)

ADA Talbot, Mick and Beth confront a plastic surgeon about the death of a patient. While questioning Doctor Anderson in his office, Mick realizes that he is a Vampire. He tries to protect Beth and Talbot. Anderson shoves Beth aside, splitting her lip in the process. The vamp sends Mick smashing through his glass desk. Mick is knocked out. :( Beth shoots Anderson, but of course that does not stop him.
A groggy Talbot opens his eyes just long enough to see Anderson take a long lick of Beth's cheek.
Anderson ~ Hmmm. Type AO Negative. Very tasty.
Josef arrives. Mick is still motionless & covered with glass from the desk. Josef feeds Mick his blood! Mick comes to and transforms back into a Vampire. THEN..... Josef and Mick fight Anderson, & his sidekick vamps, together!
Anderson (re Mick's appearance) ~ You're a......
Mick ~ Oh yeah.
Anderson's two thugs move to intercept Mick and Josef.
Josef ~ It is SO on
What ensues is a full-on, knock down, drag out, VAMPIRE ASS KICKING FIGHT. It will be brutal, bloody and deadly.
Mick, more skilled and practiced, fights methodically, while Josef fights with a fury and the reckless abandon of someone thoroughly enjoying himself.
Throughout the fight, Talbot & Beth remain blindfolded, or at least semi-blindfolded.
Hmmmmm.... I wonder if the vamp investigation that was originally written for Josh will now be given to the new ADA.
Mick and Josef move to Beth and Talbot.
Mick ~ It's okay. I'm here.
He takes off her blindfold. She sees his face. No wounds.
Beth ~ How? Mick, what happened?
Mick ~ I... Like they say, life's short.
Mick unties a confused Beth and scoops her into his arms.
Our writers are the absolute best! They never let us down.
Again, this info is how the script reads for now. Things can change. Remember in the original script for The Mortal Cure (episode #1x12), Celeste was supposed to be helping Josh investigate Vampires. In the finished product, she had become his jeweler. I really hope they don't change a thing! This is my kinda action episode :) You know that I have been dreaming of the day we get to see Josef in action. Some of my fave scenes are when he & Mick worked together in The Ringer (episode #1x07). It would make me too happy if they keep the "Vampire ass kicking fight" scenes!
I was already counting the days til April 25th.... How am I gonna wait to see what happens now!?!?

Moonlight to debut in Germany on ProSieben in June 2008
COLOGNE -- Germany's ProSiebenSat.1 group has picked up the free TV rights to U.S. series "Chuck," "Moonlight" and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" from Warner Bros. Intl. Television.
While the group has not yet made an official statement on the purchase, a spokeswoman confirmed reports from wire services to Daily Variety. The group did not yet state on which of its channels the series will run, but ProSieben is the most likely web for new fantasy-genre fare targeting younger auds.
According to the wire reports, vampire series "Moonlight" in June will take the place of "Supernatural" on ProSieben's Mystery Monday slot. Zachary Levi starrer "Chuck" has been scheduled for this fall. "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" is unlikely to start before 2009 on ProSiebenSat.1, as first airing rights are held by pay platform Premiere.
Recently, ProSiebenSat.1 had also secured the rights to Warner Bros. productions "Gossip Girl" and "Pushing Daisies." Last week, ProSieben started airing "Private Practice." In the coming weeks, ProSieben on its Mystery Monday will start with new episodes of "Nemesis" as well as "Eureka." SPOILER ALERT ~ Info for Moonlight's next NEW episode ~ Fated to Pretend (#1x13)
SPOILER ALERT!
Maureen, Beth's editor & boss at Buzzwire, is killed not long after confiding to Beth about a hot story to chase. Benjamin Talbot, a new ADA, is in charge of her murder investigation. Of course, Mick and Beth begin their own investigation. Talbot warns them that if any evidence is tainted it would mean that Maureen's killer would walk. Beth & Mick's snooping leads them to Bonnie. She is the daughter of a local politician on the verge of being elected mayor. She is also hiding a huge, painful secret about him. Keeping this secret is tearing her up. She tries to commit suicide, but Mick comes to her rescue with an understanding ear, and some "human speed" reflexes.
Wow! My thoughts...... Poor Beth! Another person close to her is going to die. :( Mick is obviously still human in this episode. From what I read in the script, that does not stop him from putting himself in danger to help others. We knew that he would still be our big hearted Mick whether he is human or vamp :) Mick and Beth working together again! YEA! It also appears that new ADA Talbot is not fond of Mick. Hmmmm.... a little tension added to the story. As you know, the script is subject to change.
New Jason Dohring interview and article in Portrait Magazine

Portrait is an informative and fun online magazine. In their March 2008 issue, they have a new article & interview with our Jason. Angela Lee did a wonderful job with this feature!
Jason Dohring: In Demand
By Angela Lee
Over the past few months we’ve received many requests to feature the one and only Jason Dohring. Just like the man himself, Portrait is more than happy to deliver fans requests, and with great timing too! On the occasion of this talented actor’s birthday later this month, Portrait presents to you this must have guide to Jason Dohring.
You know him best as the tortured but snarky Logan Echolls on “Veronica Mars” and the mischievous vampire Josef Konstan on “Moonlight”, and although these two characters share similar characteristics, Jason is different to his alter egos. “It’s funny – I always get these characters that I’m so afraid of – I so feel like I can’t…I’m like, this is so not me. With Logan, I thought, “Why me? I’m a nice guy,” says Jason, who interestingly enough originally auditioned for the role of nice guy Duncan Kane on “Veronica Mars”.
It’s one thing to imagine Jason not playing Logan on “Veronica Mars”, but can you imagine if Jason wasn’t a regular on the show? No way right? Initially, Jason was meant to be a guest star and Michael Muhney’s Sheriff Lamb was meant to be a regular instead. “I think Logan became a much bigger character than anticipated. It’s the result of Jason Dohring being an engaging performer that all the writers wanted to write for him,” divulges show creator Rob Thomas.
When “Veronica Mars” came to an end, Jason’s popularity carried onto “Moonlight” and grew even more. Not actually part of the original “Moonlight” cast, since Josef was a 60 year old man, Jason found himself a contender when the show received an overhaul. Aware of Jason’s talent, executive producer of “Moonlight” Joel Silver, who was also the executive producer on “Veronica Mars”, pushed for Jason to be cast on “Moonlight”. “I would say very influential is an understatement, because he [Joel] pushed for me all the way,” reveals Jason. “He really did. Once they made this character into a 25 year old, he though of me and took me all the way through the network.” And just like on “Veronica Mars”, Jason’s “Moonlight” co-stars love him too! “Jason is just, like the most other-centred person that I know. He’s always thinking about other people, he’s always, he’s so generous with his time. I’d work again with him in a heartbeat,” Alex O’Loughlin, who plays Mick St John, told Moonlight-Detective.Com in an interview recently.
While his co-stars may gush about him and Jason is respectfully in awe of them as well, is there anyone that Jason would love to work with in the future? “I’d love to work with Ryan Gosling, I think he’s awesome. I think Jeff Bridges is unbelievable. I think he’s very underrated. Alfred Molina, I love. I think Meryl Streep is fantastic, I think she does amazing work. Jessica Lange is beautiful,” praises Jason.
Onscreen he’s had his fair share of love interest as the misunderstood-but-really-just-wants-to-be-loved-rich-kid on “Veronica Mars” to the billionaire playboy on “Moonlight”, but in real life Jason only has eyes for his wife Lauren, who is a painter.
The pair met in high school and were friends before they started dating, and married in 2004. “At the end of the day, it’s great to have someone who is your good friend to talk to and being able to be around someone you can be yourself with makes for a long lasting relationship,” says Jason. “It’s just so comfortable.”
Also highlighting the difference between Jason and his alter egos is the close relationship that Jason has with his family. Born on 30 March, 1982 in Ohio, to Doug and Laurie Dohring, Jason William Dohring is big brother to twins Robert and Jonathan, and twins Kelsey and Kirsten. That’s right, two sets of twins! “We don’t have twins anywhere else in the family so it’s like a one in a million chance,” says Jason. In fact it was through his siblings who were child actors (Kelsey and Kirsten played Chrissy on “Growing Pains”), that Jason got into acting. From the age of eight to twelve, Jason starred in commercials such as one for American Express and Sharp Electronics, before moving onto guest appearances in television shows such as “Roswell”, “Judging Amy”, “Once and Again”, “Boston Public”, “Jag”, and “Cold Case”. He has also starred in films such as Deep Impact, Black Cadillac, The Deep Below, and the Disney movie Ready to Run.
Although Jason shot to international fame with his role on “Veronica Mars” and has now become increasingly recognized for his work on Moonlight, Jason is continually looking for ways to better his acting skills. “I just try keeping an eye open for new stuff, listening, watching movies,” he says. In between filming seasons of “Veronica Mars”, Jason continued to take acting classes to further develop his craft. (See? How awesome and humble is this guy?) But if he wasn’t an actor, what would he do? “I would probably be like, I don’t know. A race car driver? A motorcycle driver? Something like that – that sounds like fun. Maybe a teacher. An acting teacher? I like people,” ponders Jason.
One thing that you may not know about Jason is that he is a 2nd generation Scientologist. There may have been some colourful ideas associated with the religion, but for Jason it has aided him creatively, so who are we to complain? “The misconceptions that occur with people who haven’t ever read a book about it, or don’t know what it’s about. They’re just taking someone else’s false opinion of what it is,” explains Jason. “Just for me, it saved my acting career. I became a professional through Scientology…I understand acting better because Scientology is the study of life.”
Also an inspiration to Jason are his fans, who Jason has nothing but praise for. “I’m a huge fan of fans and it is so fantastic when they write in; I love that. You get real feedback and it’s inspiring to keep on your game and keep trying,” declares Jason. Thanks to his work on “Veronica Mars” and “Moonlight”, Jason has an ever-growing fanbase but he hasn’t let it go his head, instead remaining ever so humble. It’s one thing to acknowledge fans and another to truly appreciate them, which is what Jason does. “Meeting Jason in person is something that never gets old. He takes the time to get to know you when you’re talking to him each time, and really remembers as much as he can the next time he sees you,” says dedicated Jason fan, Roz Foster, who has been lucky enough to have met Jason on several occasions. Echoing Roz’s sentiments is another loyal Jason fan fortunate enough to have met him – Jennifer Riddle. “He’s such an easy-going guy and really treats his fans with love and respect. He loves his job, but he loves his fans even more, and you can see it when you meet him in person,” says Jennifer. “He’s very down to Earth and will pretty much do anything you ask of him. Whether it’s taking a picture, signing an autograph, or even calling one of your friends because they couldn’t make the trip to meet him.”
Aww. Passionate, dedicated, talented, appreciative, good looking, humble – no wonder everyone loves him!
*Fast Facts*
Favorite movies – One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest, Jerry Maguire. Love Actually, Crash.

Acting Idols – Sean Penn, Marlon Brando, James Dean, Gary Oldman
Music Tastes – “I have such a range, it’s ridiculous. Elton John, Postal Service, Reo Speedwagon, some country. I like music that has emotion. I love to feel that passion that music has,” says Jason.
Jason is actually quite a big sports guy. His sports range from golf to tennis, baseball to basketball, snowboarding to volleyball.
Jason can cook – “I’ll have you know I make awesome artichokes and salads, as well as steak,” he says.
Jason is very passionate when it comes to children and prescription drugs – “I have very strong opinions about the psychiatric drugging of children. Pisses me off that we prescribe a drug to kids (Ritalin) that is in the same class as heroin,” declares Jason.

Ausiello's Poll ~ Which bubble show deserves another season the most?
Question: Why isn't Friday Night Lights included in your bubble-show poll? I'm seriously panicking, should I be panicking? — Brandy
Ausiello: Ugh. This damn bubble poll is turning out to be more trouble than it's worth. I just revamped it for the umpteenth time to add FNL (an oversight) and Journeyman (don't ask), and remove Supernatural (already renewed). But if I hear one more complaint, the whole thing's coming down.

Fan Video ~ Mick St John ~ Smile Part 2
More Alex O'Loughlin smiles..... DARN! ha! This video is part 2 by Purpldy. Scenes from Out of The Past (episode #1x02) and Dr Feelgood (episode #1x03). Music ~ Smile by Ricky Lee Jones.
Fan Video ~ Mick St John ~ Smile Part 1
I've wondered aloud numerous times... just how many smiles does Alex O'Loughlin have in his arsenal?! Purpldy has created a video for us to capture a few of his Mick St John versions. She is documenting them from the beginning. This great black and white video ~ Smile Part 1 ~ has clips from No Such Thing as Vampires (pilot episode #1x01) and Out of The Past (episode #1x02). Fittingly, she is using the song "Smile" by the wonderful Nat King Cole.
