Australia ~ Cosmo's quick interview with Alex O'Loughlin

The movie August Rush was recently released in Australia. Cosmo did a fun, brief interview with Alex O'Loughlin to tie into the film opening. A peek at a romantic date with Alex. The final question they ask him is something I know many of you have been asking too *grin*

Cosmopolitan Celeb Insider
Don't Miss August Rush

We felt the fuzzies with this sweet-as story about a music miracle child, Evan Taylor (Freddie Highmore), who uses his talents to track down his parents who abandoned him when he was born. It's been a while since we got a 'magic-does-exist' fix, and we promise this fairytale-ish flick won't disappoint.

Keep your eyes peeled for Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (the parents), as well as Aussie actor Alex O'Loughlin (pictured with Meyers above). Hint: he's the spunky Sydney boy who's shacked up with Holly Valance in LA, and recently starred as a detective-slash-vampire in Channel Nine's Moonlight). We roped him in for a quick chat:

Cosmo : How's the Aussie-in-LA thing working out for you?

Alex O'Loughlin : I lived on a couch for a year and effed my back, but things are going okay now.

Cosmo : Were you bummed to miss out on the James Bond/Casino Royale role to Daniel Craig?

Alex O'Loughlin : I didn't think I'd get it, but being Jimmy Bond for a day was awesome! I had a tuxedo cut and was flown to London to shoot three audition scenes. One was a seductive scene with a topless Bond girl, and in another one I had to "assassinate" a guy!

Cosmo : You play an Irish muso in August Rush. Can we expect a duet with Holly [Valance] to hit the charts anytime soon?

Alex O'Loughlin : (Groans) I know you didn't just ask me that.

Cosmo : We did.

Alex O'Loughlin : Holly's fantastic, but no, not going to happen.

Cosmo : So spill: what's the most romantic thing you've done for a chick?

Alex O'Loughlin : I'm going to sound like a knob aren't I?

Cosmo : Quite possibly.

Alex O'Loughlin : OK ... I took her to a national park, built a campfire, and told her she would have to sleep in a single swag with me for the night!

Cosmo : That's original!

Alex O'Loughlin : I think I'm a fun boyfriend. I love living life and doing spontaneous things.

Cosmo : Aww. Can we keep you?

Detroit News Article ~ Can these 12 shows be saved?

Mekeisha Madden Toby, of the Detroit News newspaper, has written an article regarding television shows on the bubble. She not only included Moonlight, but also provided the address for those who want to contact CBS to ask for a second season pickup. Excellent! I am glad she is helping to spread the word :) I hope it gets more fans motivated to support Moonlight.

I won't include all twelve shows here.... just her kind words about our show. You can read the rest by following the link below.

Can these 12 shows be saved?
By Mekeisha Madden Toby

It's time again to sit right down and write the networks a letter.

A dozen TV shows rest on the bubble and face cancellation, so if you're a fan of "Eli Stone" (ABC), "Aliens in America" (The CW), "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" (Fox) and "The Unit" (CBS), take a few moments this weekend and write network executives to try to save them.

Not into writing letters? Fans of "Las Vegas," which ended its fifth season with an unceremonious cliffhanger, are sending baby booties to the president of NBC in honor of Delinda and Danny's unborn baby. Such antics have been known to work.

Peanuts brought "Jericho" back for a second season. Although low ratings have killed it for good, a second chance is better than nothing.

CBS

"Moonlight" (returns 9 p.m. April 25): Mick St. John (Aussie-born actor Alex O'Loughlin) is no Angel, but he's a pretty handsome and pretty charming vampire all the same. A perfect fit with its schedule predecessor "Ghost Whisperer," all "Moonlight" needs is a few more weeks to excel.

Alex O'Loughlin needs your votes!

Just a reminder everyone.... Please, help Alex by voting! Unfortunately, he continues to be in 2nd place for Sexiest Sci Fi guy. *growl* He is still winning the Man-Mane category, but Patrick Dempsey's percentage has been creeping up. We need to stand by our man!

TV Guide has asked several new poll questions. Alex O'Loughlin is competing in two of them ~ Sexiest Sci-Fi Guy and Sexiest Man-Mane. We know that he should win both hands down!

No one else from our cast is included in any of the categories. How can you have Jason Dohring, Brian J White, Sophia Myles, Jordan Belfi (RIP) & Shannyn Sossamon along side Alex and NOT have the hottest cast on television?! *grumble*

Tom Welling (Smallville) & Alex are fighting it out to be #1 in the Sci Fi guy category. Currently, Alex is in second place. :( We are not going to let him down, are we?!? He is winning the Man-Mane poll right now.

Please, go vote.... vote often.... and spread the word!

Moonlight takes 86% of the vote in Hollywood Reporter poll

Recently, I told you about the "As the networks lock in their primetime schedule plans, which shows would you most like to see return?" poll on The Hollywood Reporter's website. They have already written an article declaring Moonlight as the winner ~ with 86% of the vote! Our response completely surprised them.... but it doesn't surprise me at all :) Way to go, Moonlight fans!

I was happy to read that The Hollywood Reporter feels the "odds look good for a pickup." On another point they made, I had to disagree a bit. They state Alex O'Loughlin being a "hunk" is the main reason Moonlight is so popular. That is not all our show has to offer. The engrossing & compelling story has us hooked! Of course, there is no arguing that hunk is definitely a word that can be used to describe Alex. However, that is not all he has to offer. He is also an extremely talented actor, along with having that elusive "It" factor. That comes naturally to him, while other performers dream of having it. Everyone in our cast ~ Jason Dohring, Sophia Myles, Shannyn Sossamon & Brian J White ~ are wonderful actors. They have brought the characters to life for us. We are fortunate to have such dedicated & talented writers, crew and cast working hard on our show. That is why I am addicted to Moonlight!

The video used to accompany the article has clips of Mick and Beth's desert bathtub scene from Fever (episode #1x04) & their visit to the lab in Love Lasts Forever (episode #1x11).

Fans foam for Friday fang fest
March 28, 2008
By Jenna Bordelon and James Hibberd

CBS' cult favorite "Moonlight" returns April 25 with four new episodes. The vampire drama is considered on the bubble for a fall renewal, but odds look good for a pickup.

And if fans have anything to say about it, "Moonlight" will live on forever. The Hollywood Reporter ran an online poll -- still available at www.thr.com -- in which we asked voters what shows they wanted brought back in the new fall season. We were not prepared for the response.

In overwhelming numbers -- 5182 out of 5958 votes cast as of Friday at 3:11 p.m. PT -- "Moonlight" flew away with it.

Like a bat outta hell, the vampires took 86% of the votes cast, while "Cashmere Mafia" only took 5% of the votes to put it a distant second.

Why? It's simple. "Moonlight" has a hunk. A hunk whose shirt is often unbuttoned way past the point of being comfortable. That's a character women can get behind, fangs or no fangs. "Why won't he bite me?" they wonder every week. Why not indeed.

Spoilers for Moonlight's new episode ~ What's Left Behind (#1x15)

SPOILERS ~ Information about Moonlight's four new episodes is really flowing now! We are already getting hints about the storyline for episode #1x15. The third of our four remaining shows for this season.

As usual, do not read if you want to be surprised. Script subject to change.......

SPOILER ALERT!!! ~ Moonlight's Episode #1x15 ~ What's Left Behind ~ Airdate May 9th, 2008

Just as Beth was herself kidnapped as a child, a little girl is taken in this episode.... six year old Jess Fordham. She has been hearing noises and having nightmares. Of course, her family just thinks this is the usual afraid of the dark/monsters thing that happens with many children.

The vampire nation is concerned by her disappearance. Josef seems to know members of the little girl's family. He investigates her kidnapping with a woman named Sally. They search for papers at the crime scene. It looks like the papers are also missing.

ADA Talbot is investigating a classic car chop shop.

Coraline returns! She is researching documents, photos & blueprints at a library.

Is this kidnapping connected to Coraline's similar act with Beth? Or, is she still doing research for the "cure?"

No Mick and Beth spoilers for this episode.... or.... are the writers just messing with our brains?! :> Is "Sally" a code name for Beth? For that matter, is Josef actually going to do some investigating? Or, is it Mick? As we know, writers have been known to use code names to keep people guessing. I think it would be fun to see Josef and Beth working together tho.

TV Squad states Moonlight is likely to get a second season pickup

AOL Television's TV Squad website lists Moonlight as a bubble show that is "likely to be renewed." :)

What shows are on the bubble for next season?

The Hollywood Reporter has an article today that both breaks my heart and makes me ecstatic for the next television season. The article, citing lots of anonymous sources, lists shows that are "on the bubble" for next season -- meaning renewal is not certain--and predicts their likelihood of renewal.

Interestingly (and tragically), The CW's Reaper appears to be on the chopping block. Tonight's ratings for Reaper could tip the balance, as a new episode goes up against a new episode of Lost. While many critics think Reaper has lost its way since the pilot, I think it's been pretty much on track. We even got a new story line during the last episode where Sam meets a new love interest, aka the devil's daughter. The dialogue is clever, the lead actor is lovable, and his sidekicks are, well, a kick. Although, if I didn't have a way to record both shows, I would probably choose Lost over Reaper tonight.

Likely to be canceled: Reaper, Jericho [ Sadly, already true :( ], Cashmere Mafia

Likely to be renewed: How I Met Your Mother, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Scrubs (probably on ABC), Knight Rider (a series spawned from that crap movie), Friday Night Lights, Moonlight, Law & Order, Prison Break, According to Jim, 'Til Death, Back to You.

Moonlight in Returning Favorites section of new TV Guide Magazine

TV Guide's March 31st to April 13th, 2008 issue features Moonlight in its section on returning shows. Along with the mildly spoilery information is a great photo of Alex O'Loughlin as Mick St John. What a lovely thing to find in your mailbox!

Note ~ they state that Mick was turned in 1947, which is incorrect. He became a Vampire in 1952, on his wedding night.

SPOILER ALERT.... especially for international fans who haven't seen the first 12 episodes :)

Returning Favorites

[Friday] Moonlight

Returns : 4/25, 9/8c, CBS

Where we left off :
Private eye vampire Mick St John (Alex O'Loughlin) saw his fanged friend Josef (Jason Dohring) survive an assassination attempt. Mick's ex Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon), who turned him into a bloodsucker in 1947, gave him a cure that made him temporarily mortal - and ready to cozy up to reporter Beth Turner (Sophia Myles). But Beth might not succumb : After all, when her boyfriend was gunned down, Mick refused to save him by turning him into one of the living dead.

What's next :
"We've always suspected that there are doctors, lawyers, housewives and garbagemen who live among us as vampires," executive producer Harry Werksman says. "We are going to explore the pleasures of being human." Viewers will also learn more about Mick's past and watch him struggle to win back Beth. "As that happens we're going to introduce a romantic foil who makes her wonder if being with a human isn't the way to go," adds executive producer Gabrielle Stanton.

Dead again :
Mick won't have a heartbeat much longer. "As his vampirism returns, he'll have a much better understanding of his powers," Werksman says. "Where he once looked at it as a curse, by the end of the season, Mick will realize that being undead is something he can live with."

Episodes left : 4

Photo caption : Mick is alive and kicking - for a while

I have been saying that the temporary "cure" for his Vampirism should give Mick a new understanding and appreciation for his Vampire skills/powers. Glad to read that seems to be the way our writers feel too. :)

Be heard as a Moonlight viewer!

Since we are grumbling about Nielsen, I thought this would be a good time for a reminder about our own little ratings system. ;>

Repost ~

I have been thinking about the Nielsen ratings system and Moonlight. Obsess much? hahaha.... We are all loyal viewers of our show, but we don't count in the imporant numbers that determine if it stays on the air ~ just because we are not part of the Nielsen family. Do you know anyone who has one of their boxes? Grrr!

Something occurred to me. Why don't we contact CBS directly with our own ratings?!? Tell them that we watch Moonlight every week (many times on tv, DVR, online, Amazon, TIVO) but are not counted. It is an important message.

Don't get on the wrong side of Moonlight fans!

TV Guide readers wrote to Matt Roush concerning Fox's immortal show, New Amsterdam. One made it quite clear that John Amsterdam is absolutely no competition for our Mick St John (I agree). Her declaration that she would "like Mick to stake Mr. Amsterdam and cut off his head" and Matt's reply about Moonlight fans made me chuckle!

Ask Matt

Question :
As a huge fan of Moonlight, Lost and now Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I am so glad FX is repeating it on weekends or I never would've found and adored this show!), I love sci-fi. That's why I wanted to try New Amsterdam. Sorry to disagree with some of your other readers, but I am not a fan in the slightest. The first episode showed a tinge of promise — I thought it was interesting the way they were handling the immortal aspect, showing potential to become an original show. But by the second and third episodes, I was bored to tears. Some of those were tears of laughter because, honestly, some of the dialogue is just terrible! It's essentially a crime procedural with the slightest haze of a supernatural element. This is more for the CSI fan than the sci-fi fan, and even then, it is easily predictable and poorly acted. The twist with Omar came as a surprise, but then turned sour for me as I found the whole aspect of John's numerous children to be badly executed. Where is the pain in his eyes? He doesn't even act like a father! I won't be watching any longer, and I sorely wish that the far superior Canterbury's Law had gotten those prime post-American Idol slots. New Amsterdam may be a "supernatural" show, but the holes in the plot are way too huge to avoid. I've definitely fallen away from this one. — Angie L.

Matt Roush :
I agree that the procedural part of the show is the weakest. It's generic in every way, but I'm still relatively intrigued by the way Amsterdam's longevity and his knowledge of ancient New York plays into the cases. But back to the bashing, as Connie L. chimes in with this even harsher critique: "The flashbacks, which a lot of people seem to like, are artificial and boring to me. Mr. Amsterdam is not what a man who has lived 400 years would be. Where are the wrinkles from so much loss and grief? Yes, he's 35 or so, but he's been through so much death and pain that I don't see! I can't get past that at all. I want someone to shoot him, stab him or just have him fall off a building so I can see what happens. How does he stay alive and how does he deal with the people that see it happen? And a point his grandson made, which I can't get out of my head, is what if someone cut his head off? Yes, what if? He does not act like a father or grandfather at all. I want to see feelings, and he doesn't have it. I see this show as a crime show with flashbacks, nothing else. Mr. Amsterdam is no Mick St. John. I'll take my Mick any day. In fact, I'd like Mick to stake Mr. Amsterdam and cut off his head."

Lesson here: You really don't want to get on the wrong side of Moonlight fans.

Hahahaha......

Moonlight & its great fans mentioned in two Zap2it website articles

Daniel Fienberg, from Zap2it, has written an article spurred mainly by the recent cancellation of Jericho. He addresses the fans reaction to that, as well as bringing up past beloved but lost shows ~ such as Firefly, Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls, etc. While I do not personally think Moonlight is the cause of Jericho not being renewed, I (of course) like what he says about Moonlight fans. :) Daniel also has the same complaints we do about the way television ratings are tabulated. "The ratings system is a crock." I'm posting a bit of his article for you.

Fans shouldn't blame CBS for cancelling 'Jericho' again

Want somebody or something to blame, Jericho fans? Try Moonlight. The Friday night drama has consistently drooped in ratings between Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs delivering an audience which, under normal circumstances -- this being the network that cancelled Close to Home, which would have been a hit anywhere else -- wouldn't be enough for renewal. But I have to believe that CBS is terrified by the dedication and level of obsession from the Moonlight fans. If the network's going to pick up one low-rated drama for next year, it'll be Moonlight, because CBS would rather weather another sea of goobers than deal with irate care packages full of blood.

Can I just say that I agree with y'all on one thing: The ratings system is a crock. If you want to make your fortune, develop a better way of measuring TV audience size than what Nielsen currently does. You couldn't do worse. But TV networks can only do business with what they have available, so your letters that start with "I watch Jericho religiously and so do my 100 best friends and none of us have Nielsen boxes" really won't have much of an impact. CBS tried to do business a different way this past year and you got seven new episodes out of it.

That's not bad.

Ask angry fans of Journeyman or Drive or Firefly if they would be satisfied with another seven episodes. Jericho fans probably shouldn't complain to Cane fans about CBS not giving them enough of a chance to find an audience. Airing in the Tuesday death slot, Cane averaged 8.9 million viewers this season, but nobody invited Cane to make new episodes after the strike ended. In that same time slot, Jericho averaged 6.8 million viewers.

My point isn't to malign the most passionate of Jericho fans or to rub salt in the wounds so soon after the last salt massage.

The point is just to say... Why the anger? Again! I understand sadness or frustration or a little bit of resignation. But why so mad? Two DVD sets with 29 episodes? That's not so bad. The Prisoner only aired 17 episodes. Fawlty Towers aired 12. My Freaks and Geeks DVD set has 18 episodes, one more than my Undeclared set.

Why should Tuesday night be about venting your spleen at CBS, at the tastes of American viewers at Nielsen?

Why not just say good-bye to Jake and Hawkins and the rest of the gang?

There'll be plenty of new shows to obsess over soon enough, at least until they're cancelled.

Zap2it mentions Moonlight in another article. We've all been concerned about the ratings for the Price is Right specials that CBS has been airing on Friday nights.

The network's "The Price Is Right Million Dollar Spectacular" specials have been performing so well on Friday nights that CBS wants to milk the Drew Carey franchise for all its worth, ordering for new primetime specials for May sweeps.

Don't worry, though, "Moonlight" fans. These new "Price Is Right" installments will air on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m., the slot currently occupied by "Big Brother -- 'Til Death Do Us Part."

SPOILER VIDEO ~ New sneak peek scene from Fated to Pretend (episode #1x13)

SPOILER VIDEO ALERT!!!

FINALLY! This is a new sneak peek scene from Moonlight's next episode ~ Fated to Pretend (#1x13). A great preview glimpse of Beth and Mick's beach picnic. It is soooooooooooooo lovely to see Alex O'Loughlin and Sophia Myles back in action as our Mick and Beth.

Mick ~ Hi
Beth ~ Hi
Mick ~ Quite the spread.
Beth ~ I realized I have no idea what you like, so I got a bit of everything.
Mick ~ Wow... looks great. You look great.
Beth ~ So do you. Mortality suits you.
Mick ~ Thanks

UK's Daily Star mentions Holly Valance and Moonlight

Moonlight's B.C. episode (#1x06) will air in the UK on Tuesday. The Daily Star did a blurb about Holly Valance who appears as the stunning Lola in that particular episode. Unfortunately, they had a few issues... such as calling Beth BAth and saying Mick is a lawyer. Hmmmmm... I wonder if the writer has ever watched the show. It is good to see Moonlight being mentioned by the media tho.

KINKY HOLLY VAMPS IT UP FOR NEW SHOW

FANGS are looking up for Holly Valance.

She has landed the role of a sexy vampire in new series Moonlight.

Former soap star Holly, 24, plays sultry Lola in an episode of the show on March 25.

Lola is a 500-year-old bloodsucker who comes under suspicion when party-goers who visit her nightclub end up dead.

Sticking her nose into the investigation is TV reporter Bath – played by David Tennant’s ex-love, Sophia Myles, 27.

Holly, who played Felicity “Flick” Scully in Neighbours for three years, enjoyed getting her teeth into her new role. But, there might just be another reason why she joined the show.

Her boyfriend Alex O’Loughlin, 31, happens to have the lead role in the series – on Living TV on Tuesdays at 10pm – as lawyer Mick St John, who is also a secret vampire.

CBS will rebroadcast Moonlight's The Mortal Cure (episode #1x12) on April 18th

Great news! CBS issued a press release today stating they will rebroadcast Moonlight's The Mortal Cure (episode #1x12). Now, we only have to wait until 4/18 for our Mick fix. We've been hoping that the network would air a few reruns of the series before jumping into the new stuff. Newbies will benefit from seeing how Mick became temporarily human... and... I guess... the rest of us fans wouldn't mind watching it again too much. *wink*

Moonlight's April 2008 Schedule ~

The Mortal Cure (episode #1x12) ~ Friday, April 18th, 2008 ~ Rerun

Fated To Pretend (episode #1x13) ~ Friday, April 25th, 2008 ~ NEW EPISODE

Press Release :

03.24.2008
MICK DISCOVERS CORALINE'S SECRET TO BEING HUMAN AGAIN, ON A REBROADCAST OF "MOONLIGHT," FRIDAY, APRIL 18

"The Mortal Cure" - Mick's dream of becoming human again is within reach when he uncovers Coraline's secret, but the answers come with a steep price. Meanwhile, still angry with Mick, Beth must deal with some heartbreaking news alone, on a rebroadcast of MOONLIGHT, Friday, April 18 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. (Originally broadcast 1/18/08)

Video ~ Watch with Kristin gives SPOILERS for Moonlight

E Online's, Watch with Kristin, has a new online SPOILER video about several returning shows..... Gossip Girl, The Riches, Bones.... Moonlight! She talks about the episode (#1x13 & #1x14) spoilers we have already discussed, but it is great to hear our show mentioned.

Even better, the video includes behind the scenes peeks of Sophia Myles and Alex O'Loughlin. It is great to see them! Moonlight appears around the 2:31 mark.

SPOILER ALERT!

In the Ask Kristin part of the video ~

Kristin, can you tell me what happened to Moonlight?

Kristin Dos Santos : It's coming back, and taking a turn toward tabloid dirt. A hard driving editor takes over Beth's Buzzwire and turns it into a scandal loving blog, of all things. Right around the time the paparazzi start digging into Mick's mysterious background, threatening of course to expose his bloody secret.

Update ~ The video is not available right now on the E! website. According to the tech dept, it will be fixed but they don't know how soon. Luckily, I had already typed out Kristin's answer for you here :)

Sophia Myles & Shannyn Sossamon in SciFi Magazine's April 2008 Issue

Sci Fi Magazine is the official publication of the SciFi Channel. In their special April 2008 issue, they have a feature called TV's Hot New Super Women ~ Secret Agents, Cyborgs & more. Our Sophia Myles and Shannyn Sossamon are both in it! YEA!

Who's That Girl?
Have we ever enjoyed so many hot new faces in one television season? Sci Fi investigates the heavenly bodies steaming up the small screen to offer a closer look at this year's freshman 23.

Moonlight's Sophia Myles
The new beauty to a beast
This English Rose, star of the vampire detective series Moonlight, is no shrinking violet when it comes to vamps, having had roles in two Underworld movies and an adaptation of Dracula. Previously, she warmed up viewers with her role in the Doctor Who episode "Girl in the Fireplace."

Moonlight's Shannyn Sossamon
The new vampire lover
Sossamon vamps it up playing Moonlight's hemophagic hottie Coraline. As the ex-wife of vampire detective Mick St John, Sossamon plays the undead femme fatale who messes with the hero, not just over the course of one case, but over decades. That's staying power no bad girl from 1940's film noir could ever dream of.

TV by the Numbers ~ Bill Gorman ~ thinks CBS will renew Moonlight

Bill Gorman, from TV by the Numbers, keeps track of the data, statistics & ratings for television shows. He gives his opinion on the chances of Moonlight being renewed for a second season.

CBS “On The Bubble”: Jericho, Moonlight, Cane

Our Renew or Cancel? posts have been on hiatus since the new fall shows went dormant. Now we’ve got some data on the spring shows as well, and it’s time to look at the numbers and take some guesses on who’s coming back next fall and who’s going away permanently.

The Case for Moonlight

Moonlight ratings put it #30 at CBS for season to date adults 18-49, and #26 for average viewers.

Moonlight aired in a lightly viewed timeslot on Fridays, so its relative timeslot ratings matter. There it was very slightly behind Friday Night Lights [18-49, 2.90m, Viewers, 6.21m] for the 18-49 lead, but solidly in second place for average viewers behind Women’s Murder Club [18-49, 2.63m, Viewers, 8.94m].

Moonlight gets another chance to prove itself this spring with 4 new episodes starting April 25.

My Guesses

It’s possible that all 3 of these shows get the axe, but I think that’s unlikely. But even with CBS scrambling after the writer’s strike, I think there’s is no chance they’re all coming back.

My money is on a Moonlight renewal and Cane and Jericho cancellations.

Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring on EW's TV Characters You'd Date list

MICK ST. JOHN (Alex O'Loughlin)
Moonlight

Because I have absolutely no problems with dating an extremely hot dead guy. — Catherine

LOGAN ECHOLLS (Jason Dohring) and VERONICA MARS (Kristen Bell)
Veronica Mars

He's fiercely loyal, witty as hell, and pretty much awesome in every way. To quote Veronica, he's ''ownage.'' Sure, he used to arrange bum fights and screw his friend's stepmother, but when you think about it...he's had the most f'd up life ever (girlfriend brutally murdered, dad arrested for sleeping with/killing said girlfriend, mom commits suicide, etc.) yet he still manages to love with his whole heart. — Melissa

Some folks have mentioned the boys from Veronica Mars, but no man has stepped up to the plate to take V herself. I heartily volunteer. She's smart, hilarious, and a sassy lady. What's more to ask for, oh wait she's a bombshell. Annoy me, tiny blonde, annoy me anytime! — Seth

Both of our boys..... Alex O'Loughlin and Jason Dohring.... appear on Entertainment Weekly's list of TV Characters You'd Date. Those who made the cut were selected by the EW readers. Of course, the question is about their television alter egos. Moonlight's Mick St John for Alex :) The editor did misspell his last name as O'Laughlin tho. I fixed it here, and emailed them the error. Can you imagine how many Moonlight fans they have heard from about that? ha!

Another reason I emailed EW.... They chose to focus on Jason's work as Logan Echolls on Veronica Mars instead of as our Josef on Moonlight. I wish they had listed both roles for him. However, I am happy Jason is on the list period because he deserves it.

What girl doesn't dream of being a willing freshie for either of these magnetic men?!

SPOILER PHOTO ~ Alex O'Loughlin/Mick St John wallpaper from Moonlight's Fated to Pretend

SPOILER photo! You knew that I wouldn't be able to resist turning the new promo pics from Moonlight's Fated to Pretend (episode #1x13) into wallpapers. Here is the first one..... Alex O'Loughlin ~ on the beach ~ delicious as our Mick St John. An open shirt & low rise jeans have never looked this good!

Sorry that Jericho has been canceled :(

As we have heard and been discussing, CBS has officially canceled Jericho. I am so sorry to hear the news! Talk about great fans.... many of which are also huge Moonlight fans. Perhaps there will be a Jericho movie. I've also heard rumors about the show being picked up by a cable tv channel.

Nina Tassler issued the following statement ~

To the fans of Jericho:

We have read your emails over the past few days and have been touched by the depth and passion with which you have expressed your disappointment. Please know that canceling a television series is a very difficult decision. Hundreds of people at the Network, the production company and the incredibly-talented creative team worked very hard to build and serve the community for this show -- both on-air and online. It is a show we loved too.

Thank you for supporting Jericho with such passion. We truly appreciate the commitment you made to the series and we are humbled by your disappointment. In the coming weeks, we hope to develop a way to provide closure to the compelling drama that was the Jericho story.

Sincerely,
Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment

She also said ~

"Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more. We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long, and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew that went through creative hoops to deliver a compelling, high-quality second season.

We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen. We're proud of everyone's efforts."

For its six episodes (the series finale will be its seventh), Jericho averaged 6.8 million viewers. The finale airs on March 25th.

This just highlights something we all know.... ratings are a must to keep our show on the air. We need to not only promote Moonlight online but continue reaching out to people in the "real" world. :) CBS is waiting to see what kind of viewer numbers our next four new episodes pull in before deciding on Moonlight's future.

I really like this photo of Lennie James and Skeet Ulrich.

Entertainment Weekly features Moonlight in their Spring TV Preview

Entertainment Weekly's website has included Moonlight in their Spring TV Preview. Sooooo interesting to read what Gabrielle Stanton & Harry Werksman hint is coming up for our show. I like the writer's description of "where we left off." She summed it up in just a couple of sentences. I had the same feeling of don't blame the Vampire! ha!

MOONLIGHT
APRIL 25 · 9 PM · CBS
EPISODES LEFT: 4

WHERE WE LEFT OFF: Girl meets vampire. Girl flirts with vampire, but still loves boyfriend. Boyfriend gets shot, and vampire struggles in vain to save boyfriend's life. Girl blames...vampire?

UP NEXT: Beth (Sophia Myles) ''really wanted [Mick] to turn her boyfriend into a vampire'' to save him, explains exec producer Gabrielle Stanton. She also has a brief opportunity to be with Mick (Alex O'Loughlin), now that he's temporarily human after taking ''the cure.'' ''There's going to be a little tension,'' vows exec producer Harry Werksman, who adds that we'll soon see a lot more average folks who happen to be vampires. ''Very happy, nice people,'' adds Stanton, ''buying their blood legally.'' —Alynda Wheat

SPOILER ALERT ~ CBS releases more promo photos from Fated to Pretend (episode #1x13)

SPOILER ALERT.... and Major DROOL alert for Moonlight's next new episode! hahaha.....

We must have been really good kids cuz CBS has released more photos from Mick and Beth's beach scene in Fated to Pretend (episode #1x13). After all this time, we get to see our Mick enjoying the sunlight and ocean with an open shirt. *swoon* Worth the wait!

He is still wearing his lovely Fleur De Lis/Fleury Cross necklace. I hope we do get the backstory on Mick's jewelry in a future episode, as Alex mentioned.

Check out that spread of healthy food. Beth is trying to help Mick enjoy his human time.... and apparently doesn't want him to get a pot belly from fried chicken. ;)

The official CBS episode description states "Fated to Pretend--" Still "alive," Mick (right: Alex O'Loughlin.) enjoys what time he has left as a human by repairing his relationship with Beth (left: Sophia Myles), on MOONLIGHT, Friday, April 25 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

SPOILER PHOTO from Moonlight's next new episode ~ Fated to Pretend (#1x13)

SPOILER ALERT! Photograph from Fated to Pretend!

CBS has released a promo photo for Moonlight's next new episode ~ Fated to Pretend (#1x13). Beth and Mick at the beach! The look on Mick's face says it all. He is finally able to enjoy the sun, food AND Beth. What a picnic spread! For someone who surely grew up going to the beach before being turned into a Vampire, this must be heaven. He has gotten his wish ~ human again ~ but for how long.... he has to enjoy it while he can. As usual, Alex has the perfect expression on his face. I've always said that Mick looks lush in the sunlight :)

Hmmmmm.... I just had a horrible thought..... in many television programs this would turn out to be a dream sequence. Our writers wouldn't do that to us tho, right?

Fan Video ~ Whatever Lola Wants ~ Tribute to Holly Valance as Lola

A fan video about my bad girl Vampiress Lola! Lilly uses the "awesome" scenes from Holly Valance's performance in Moonlight's B.C. episode (#1x06). She even creatively incorporates clips from Beth's attempted seduction of Mick to make it appear that Lola is the one seducing him. Of course, the song is Whatever Lola Wants by Sylvia Pilar. I really hope we see more of Dolores Maxford Whitaker, & the stunning Holly, on our show!

I couldn't resist using "awesome" because of Lola's quote ~ "Evil's a word that gets tossed around a lot... like great or awesome," which is a favorite of mine :>

Supporting Moonlight by getting our cast booked with media outlets

I know you have been contacting media outlets about our show and amazing cast. Please, keep it up! Here is a repost of the info... along with a few new entries.

When calling the network, we are being told that CBS will make a decision about Moonlight's future in mid-May. It is obvious that they are waiting to see what happens with the four new episodes that will begin airing on April 11th. This gives us plenty of time to fight to save our show! We will work together to get Moonlight renewed for a second season :)

Fortunately, we are blessed with such a charismatic, good humored and interesting cast. We just need to get them booked on the talk show circuit and profiled in magazines. Think about it.... Alex O'Loughlin, Sophia Myles, Jason Dohring, Brian J White & Shannyn Sossamon chatting and laughing with Ellen or Conan or Jay or any host. New fans will not be able to resist! Plus, I guess us old Moonlight fans wouldn't mind seeing them on tv too much. *wink*

Let's write, call and email all of these media outlets to promote the new Moonlight episodes. Get those ratings even higher by capturing fresh viewers!

Day Time Talk Shows

I have said from the beginning that having the entire cast interviewed together would be amazing. They have such wonderful chemistry! Oprah often chats with the entire cast from television programs and movies. Another thing to keep in mind is most of her producers are women. If they are not already in love with Alex, Jason & Brian, they soon will be when we bring our boys to their attention! *grin*

Mesmerizing fan video dedicated to Jason Dohring as Josef

Love it! Tuesdayangel has created a wonderful fan video dedicated to Jason Dohring as our Josef. Great Moonlight scenes that make me miss him even more.... including shirtless Josef... YUM! She chose the perfect song to go with the images ~ Mesmerized by Faith Evans. I hope we are given lots more Jason on Moonlight in the future. Is it April 25th yet?

Australia's Cleo Magazine interviews Alex O'Loughlin

Australia's Cleo Magazine has a new interview with our Alex. Candid and funny as ever!

Five minutes with… Alex O'Loughlin

He's got a supporting role amongst a phenomenal cast of the new film August Rush (in cinemas now) and plays the lead in the US TV series Moonlight (which airs on Channel Nine). Plus, he's dating the gorgeous Holly Valance.

How often do you get back here?

Alex O'Louglin ~ "I get back as regularly as I can. This year's been good because I've had a couple of times where my family have actually come out to LA which is the first time. I moved there three years ago and was commuting back and forth for a few years before that. So this is really the first time I've had my peeps over there and it's just lovely to show them where I live and all that sort of thing."

How hard was it when you first hit LA as an actor?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "Pretty hard. For the first few years when I was going back and forth, that's one thing, because you've always got a return trip in your back pocket so you can go back anytime. But it's frustrating and such hard work, there's so many people you have to meet. It wasn't till I packed the final bag and took the one-way ticket and made the final move. The first year was very difficult for me and there were a lot of times in the first year when I wanted to shut up sticks and leave. My car got written off and my stuff got stolen I had in storage, which was pretty valuable and all this stuff happened and I was thinking, ''What am I doing? ''. So there were a couple of times where I was thinking of pulling the pin but the people around me, my mates over there and my mates here, kept reminding me that these are really the months that determine the man you are. It paid off."

What was it like to get a part in a film (August Rush) with such an amazing cast?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "I read that script and I knew I had to be a part of it. I know that sounds corny, but I was like, ''I'll kick down doors to get something in this'', because it was such a wonderful script. Kirsten Sheridan, the writer-director, her father Jim Sheridan is one of my all time favourite directors who's an absolute genius. I also have a real affinity with the music [that is part of the storyline], it's not something I'm really good at but it's something I really love. And I ended up playing my own guitar in the movie and I learned every song we ever played. I started out going for the lead, which was Jonathan Rhys Myers character, but in the end I'm not a name and they needed a name to fill the lead. I put so much into these auditions and I recorded two songs and played them in there and did three pages of thick Irish brogue singing, so it was quite a production to get a gig on, but once I got the role Kirsten and I became mates pretty quickly and she developed a role and made it about three times the size it was and really fleshed it out for me. It was tricky, because I had to accept a local hire which is a kind of contract with Warner Brothers where I had to find my own accommodation and being in New York for four months, you do the maths, you don't end up making money doing a film like that, but to have it on your résumé, these are the sacrifices you make."

Is it frustrating that it takes so long from filming to release in projects?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "I like theatre so much because there's that immediate satisfaction and that immediate acknowledgement. From two minutes of walking on stage there will be an audience to respond and you'll see the tone of the audience. It's a whole other animal then when you film. All this time passes and you grow as a person and you change as a person so much. So it can be a little daunting in that respect and then you've got obligations when it first comes out to go and back it up and do promotion. I try to see everything I'm in once, but I'm not comfortable doing it. I find it excruciating."

What do you like about LA?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "I really like the weather, because I can ride motorbikes all year round."

Are you a motorbike addict?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "Yeah, I am. The studios hate it. That's just something I've always loved."

Do you have a favourite place?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "I've got a lot of favourite spots. I love being close to so many different getaways — it's like Australia in that sense. I had some family over at my joint a couple of months ago, which is in the West Hollywood Beverley Hills area, and we got on the freeway and in an hour and a half we were in the most beautiful alpine country in Lake Arrowhead, in the middle of the lake fishing. Then we got in the car a few days later and we were all rugged up because it was snowing. Drive a bit more and we were in the middle of the dessert and floating round the pool — it's mad to be able to do that.

But it has taken me a long time to get used to the way LA is you know because there's heaps of surgery, heaps of sex and there's so much on show. Whereas Australia's different, we don't subscribe to that bullshit. I found it quite confronting, but I'm at the point where you just plug in for it."

Is it hard seeing Holly in kissing scenes?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "You don't wanna see someone you love intimate with another person. I mean, it's a crap situation, but it's part of the deal. You really have to grow up with that stuff quite quickly. It's a strange teenage angst you get. Like, ''Get your hands off my girlfriend''. But it's natural. I'd be a bit concerned if I didn't feel anything. The thing is, you have 50 crew members around you, a boom up your ass and a camera up your nose so, I you've got to keep it in perspective and not sweat it too much."

How would your friends describe you?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "My friends would say I'm dependable, a joker, intelligent. I'm multi-talented, probably because I'm so ADD. I can also be quiet."

How would you describe your fashion clothing style?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "I think I'm casual, I think I'm a little rock casual, streety-casual."

Do you go for girls who are blonde and busty, brunette and cute, sporty and tanned or intelligent and shy?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "I don't have a type. I like pretty, smart, funny girls."

Who did you idolise when you were growing up?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "I had an Iron Maiden poster, I idolised Johnny Depp and Monkey in Monkey Magic. My mum made me that gold crown he used to wear."

What would you spend your last $5 on?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "Probably a bus ticket out of wherever I am."

How do you usually spend weekends?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "Surrounded by music and my people."

Do you have any pet peeves?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "People who still believe in the class system, and people who fart and don't admit it. The only other thing I hate is when Australian people talk like 'Oz-stray-ya'."

Anyone you would love to meet?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "I would really love to meet Al Gore at the moment actually."

Five years from now, where would you like to live?

Alex O'Loughlin ~ "On a beach somewhere in Australia."

August Rush is in Australian cinemas now.

New Photo Wallpaper of Sophia Myles as Beth Turner

Continuing to celebrate with our birthday girl :) Here is a new photo wallpaper from Moonlight of Sophia Myles as Beth Turner.

UK's Sunday Express interviews Sophia Myles

The UK's Sunday Express has interviewed our Sophia. She looks soooo beautiful in the picture they used to accompany the article! I admire how grounded and unpretentious she is... not impressed by her own celebrity. That makes me like her even more.

As in other interviews, Sophia has only good things to say about Alex. We are very fortunate to have a cast that gets along this well.

One thing she mentions is possibly going home to London for her bday. Since filming has started again on Moonlight, she may not have gotten her wish. Hopefully, she went before production resumed last week.

Moonlight becomes her
English Rose Sophia Myles has bloomed in Hollywood - thanks to a pop star boyfriend and a top-rated new drama series
By Olivia Robinson

Being dumped by Doctor Who can't be any girl's idea of fun. And when David Tennant called time on his two-year relationship with Sophia Myles in October last year, citing her move to the States, the actress was reported to be "heartbroken."

But today, on a bright, sunny LA morning, all that seems a universe away. Far from moping, the 27 year old Londoner is in buoyant spirits. And she's reportedly dating again - the lucky man being bass player Paul Wilson of Irish band Snow Patrol. So will she talk about her new love?

"Oh, you mean my puppy," she smiles. "He's a little black and tan terrier called Jackson, and he can't leave the United States for six months, so I stayed here with him and went to the beach on Christmas Day. I had a very quiet, gentle time. I was amazing."

We'll take that as a no. But she's more forthcoming about Australian heartthrob Alex O'Loughlin, her co-star in Moonlight, the US show for which she crossed the pond and left Time Lord Tennant behind. "I can't speak about Alex highly enough. He's like an older brother to me and we laugh constantly," she says. "There's something about a Brit and an Aussie together. It's a good combo. We're outrageous. Sometimes the Americans don't know what to do with us."

Their friendship is purely platonic - Alex is dating Australian soap-star-turned-singer Holly Valance - but there's no doubting that the sparks fly between them on screen. As private investigator Mick St John and Internet reporter Beth Turner, they are the could-be couple who launched countless YouTube videos and helped Moonlight win the People's Choice Award for favourite new TV drama last month.

The fact that he's a reformed vampire who rescued her from kidnappers as a child and has pined for her ever since has only added fuel to the fire. "The love story is so interesting because he's immortal," Sophia explains. "And the chemistry between Alex and me seems to work. It's one of those things that everyone wants. Money can't buy it and there's no logical formula to create it. We're lucky, the sum of the two of us works really well. In fact, this is the most amazing job on earth and I'm having the most amazing time."

Sophia grew up in west London where her father, Peter, was a vicar and her mother, Jane, worked in publishing. She was spotted in a school play by actor and Oscar winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park), who put her forward for the part of Lady Jane Grey in a BBC production of The Prince and the Pauper.

She loved the experience so much that she decided against following her mother to Cambridge, where she had a conditional offer to study philosophy, preferring instead to pursue acting.

Her down-to-earth demeanour and classic English rose looks soon won her a reputation as the next Kate Winslet. "The comparison has been made for as long as I can remember," says Sophia, "and it's a delightful one."

A number of period dramas followed, including TV adaptations of Oliver Twist and Nicholas Nickleby, a small role in Foyle's War, as well as film parts in Mansfield Park, The Abduction Club and From Hell with Johnny Depp.

But then, at the age of 21, she took the big decision to try her luck in Hollywood. "I wasn't getting enough work in England, so I came over with 200 in my pocket," she recalls. "A friend of mine was house-sitting for someone so I lived there for free for a month."

Fortune smiled on Sophia when she won a bit part in the 2003 vampire movie Underworld, with Kate Beckinsale. She also appeared in its sequel and was hailed as the next big thing when she landed the role of Lady Penelope in 2004's much hyped live-action update of TV classic Thunderbirds.

The film proved a disappointment and, though Sophia received good reviews, her professional achievements were soon overshadowed when news spread of her affair with actor Charles Dance, 34 years her senior. Coinciding as it did with the end of his marriage to his wife of almost 25 years, the liaison - albeit brief - caused quite a stir. Sophia maintained a dignified silence on the matter, resolving to avoid the celebrity gossip culture at all costs and keep the focus on her work.

She has now signed a six-and-a-half year contract for Moonlight, and has settled in LA for the foreseeable future. "This is the longest I've ever been here," she reveals. "I've decided that, at this point in my life, I can't really call any country or any house in particular my home."

"I have a flat in London and I have a place that I'm renting here, but I've been a globetrotter since I left school. I don't really live anywhere but I do feel very welcome in Los Angeles."

No that she doesn't long for the comforts of home every now and then. "Homesickness comes in waves," she says. "I miss simple things - I was having Pizza Express cravings the other day. I miss the accent, the dry sense of humour and I just miss the smell of England. It's home."

She's planning a trip back for her 28th birthday, but in the meantime she's hardly short of home-grown company, thanks to the wave of Brit stars including Damian Lewis, Michelle Ryan, Jonny Lee Miller and Lena Headey who have taken over American television of late.

"It has been the invasion this year," Sophia laughs. "I'm thrilled that everyone's doing well. I've become very good friends with Anna Friel, who's out here doing Pushing Daisies. She and I have become comrades, giving each other advice and help as we've gone along."

"We both left messages on each other's answering machines, having meltdowns, freaking out that we were so tired and we didn't know whether we were going to survive. She's just bought a lovely house here, so I go and see her and hang out."

But doesn't she miss her old mates back in the UK? "Of course I do. It's kind of hard when I'm working, but I've had mates out and I'm going to have more people come over. The right relationships are going to stand the test of time. Real relationships will function no matter where you are in the world."

Did you hear that, Doctor?

Happy Birthday, Sophia!

Today is Sophia Myles' 28th birthday! I hope you are having a fab time, Sophia :) Happy Birthday! This is one of my fave photos of her. It is from her film Thunderbirds, in which she played Lady Penelope.

Which show's fans are the most rabid?

Interesting! A reader sent Matt Roush a question regarding Moonlight vs New Amsterdam and mentioned being "surprised by the fervor of the Moonlight fans on the Internet." In Matt's reply he says "I will spare you the Blood Ties-beats-the-pants-off-Moonlight letters I regularly get." Some interpret that to mean he receives tons more email from Blood Ties fans than from us. Others think Matt is simply saying that he is often told that Blood Ties is better than Moonlight. When I first read it in the wee hours of the morning, I wasn't sure which it was either. Who needs sleep?!?! ha! However, I think he is talking about the old "my show is better than your show" game. What do you think?

Question :

I think the recent letter comparing New Amsterdam unfavorably to Moonlight is a little unfair, considering the only episodes out at the time were the pilot and the second episode. The pilot of a new series is never the best episode and it usually takes a few episodes for me, at least, to really become a fan of a show. I watch Moonlight, and it wasn't until Coraline entered the picture that I thought the show was better than mediocre. I've now seen the first three episodes of New Amsterdam and think that it has definitely improved over the pilot and people should give it a shot (especially the fans of fellow immortal crime-fighter show Moonlight). I don't have high hopes that New Amsterdam will get renewed, given Fox's treatment of it so far, but any small smidgen of hope that it will indeed get more episodes? Also, do you think Moonlight fans are becoming the new Supernatural fan girls? I absolutely love Supernatural, but even I am scared of its fandom (and a friend of mine is so scared of the fandom that she is wary of getting into the show). I'm really surprised by the fervor of the Moonlight fans on the Internet; to me, they seem to be approaching Supernatural-level obsession. — Bonnie C.

Matt Roush :

Seriously, you want me to go there?!?! I am not stirring those cult waters. Suffice it to say that nearly every cult show has its ferocious online following, and they're often very unforgiving to any newbie that dares to step on their turf. (I will spare you the Blood Ties-beats-the-pants-off-Moonlight letters I regularly get.) I've said before that it's too early to know one way or the other about New Amsterdam's future. You're probably right not to get too attached, but you never know. Fox can't be expecting miracles now that Dancing with the Stars and Two and a Half Men have rejoined the time period.

Spoilers for Moonlight's episode #1x14 ~ Click

Spoilers for Moonlight's episode #1x14 ~ Click. These are a few tidbits from the script.... subject to change.

SPOILER ALERT!

Buzzwire gets a new editor ~ Grant Lewis ~ and a new name ~ iTalk. Grant is not worried about ethics & whether or not a story is true. He wants to scoop TMZ, Ain't It Cool News, etc.

One of the paparazzi starts to notice how "unusual" Mick is.... the only person not eating or drinking in photos from the Ivy, etc.

This episode really reminds you that Moonlight is set in LA.

Beth is doing a story about the paparazzi, which ends up bringing her & Mick together.

Grant wants reporter "Ann Booker" to get the story of an actress who is said to be cursed, Tierney Tate. Mick happens to be looking after Tierney. Many assume he is her new boyfriend ~ including Beth?!?

Mick & Tierney end up at a bar where they run into her on again/off again boyfriend, Scott.... AND, Beth there with another man.

Tierney ~ "Hey, isn't that your friend?"
Mick turns to see who Tierney's talking about. He's surprised to see Beth at the bar with Jason Abbott. Alongside him, three dark suited men with grim looks on their faces.
Tierney ~ "I saw you with her at the Ivy."
Mick ~ "Yes. She's..... a friend."
Tierney ~ "Maybe more than a friend?"
Mick ~ "Are you getting jealous? We had something before, but it's over now. (beat) It's complicated."
Tierney ~ "God, I hate it when guys say that."
She shoves Mick towards Beth with a smile.
Tierney ~ "Go talk to her."
Tierney is a force that cannot be denied. Mick moves towards Beth. She sees him, and he nods towards the outside deck.

Just thinking...... We have never been introduced to any of the other Buzzwire reporters. This episode's script mentions someone named Ann Booker. Is this simply a code name for Beth? Perhaps, the writers are trying to disguise her role in the sides that were released for the new character, Grant Lewis. One of his exchanges with Ann is him saying that she has "a real instinct for the offbeat." That sounds like Beth's stories. Also, the paparazzi (Dean) who becomes suspicious of Mick contacts Ann threatening to investigate &/or expose Mick if she doesn't do what he says. She seems to be upset by his phone call. Why would she give in to his threats? To protect Mick? That implies that she already knows Mick's secret, or that she is suspicious too. Another possibility is that Ann is a new character being introduced to add tension to the MickBeth romance, like ADA Talbot. What do you think?

Alex O'Loughlin's 2003 tv commercial for Libra Tampons

For those of you who missed it before, I'm reposting the tv commercial Alex did in 2003 for Libra Tampons. Of course, it is the ad mentioned in his interview from my preceding post. He is too adorable and young in this :) "Mousey, Mousey! What?"

Australian magazine, News Weekly, interviews Alex O'Loughlin

Australian magazine, News Weekly, has published an interview with Alex O'Loughlin. Even tho they cover some of the same ground as others, I never grow tired of reading his answers. They never seem stale. Again, we get a glimpse of how hard he works to entertain us. He must be so exhausted during filming. :( As usual, he has nice things to say about his co-star.... this time Jonathan Rhys Meyers. How cute is it when he calls him "Johnny"?!?

Alex's description of the fan reaction in Melbourne is completely different from what he experiences with US fans. Love his response to being asked about Moonlight finding its audience ~ "it certainly has in America." That's right! And, we are gonna bring him even more fans :)

The article is accompanied by some lovely pictures ~

Alex's Photo Album (from top image on the right hand margin)....

2. Detective Kevin Hiatt in The Shield

6. Alex with girlfriend Holly Valance, who makes a guest appearance on Moonlight

Interview ~ The hot Aussie star is lighting up the big and small screens

After years of hard slog, Aussie actor Alex O’Loughlin is finally making headway in Hollywood. Sydneysider Alex stars in the TV drama Moonlight, in which he plays a reluctant vampire and detective Mich St John. He also has a part in new film August Rush opposite Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Keri Russel. The 32 year old chats to NW about his rise to the top, girlfriend Holly Valance and his turn in a tampon commercial…

NW - So you made it!

Alex O'Loughlin - [Laughs] It’s taken me a while, I’ve been living over here for three years full-time, and I’ve been going over there for six, seven years. It takes a while to climb the greasy pole of Hollywood, as they say. You get up a bit and then you slip back down, that’s what it’s like. You take two steps forward, three steps back. But you just chip away until you get there.

NW - People talk about the "Aussie Factor" in Hollywood - Do you think they really still care?

Alex O'Loughlin - Yeah, I absolutely think they do. I think Aussies are looked upon as a mystery. There’s a universal feeling in America that Aussies have something to offer that’s different. I don’t know if it’s true or not! We’re very fortunate to be brought up the way we’re brought up. Although certain aspects of it can be frustrating - the tall poppy syndrome is alive and well - it actually breeds a certain level of humanity. I think we have a really good work ethic - we don’t sit around and moan we don’t have the right flavoured candles in our trailers. The things you hear, it’s like, are you kidding? You’re overpaid as it is, just show up and get on with it.

NW - What was working with Jonathan Rhys Meyers like?

Alex O'Loughlin - Johnny and I play brothers [in August Rush], and we lived together for the duration of filming in New York. Johnny and his real brother Jaime - he’s in the movie as well as the drummer of the band we’re all in - and I all lived together and we had a blast. It was great being surrounded by Irish accents, too. We just tore the p**s out of each other the whole time, we had a great repartee and they have a great sense of humour. Jonathan is really well-read, a really smart guy.

NW - How have you found the response to Moonlight?

Alex O'Loughlin - A couple of people have approached me on the streets [in Melbourne] and they said they really liked it, and I’m really glad. I’m sure it’s going to find its audience, it certainly has in America.

NW - Playing a Vampire, a lot of the show is filmed at night - How to you deal with that?

Alex O'Loughlin - In television this is about as hard as it gets. It’s a one-hour drama - I’m number one on the call sheet. The show is about a bunch of different characters and different things, but essentially it’s about Mick St John, who is my character. It’s make-up heavy, it’s special-effects heavy, I do most of my own stunts and we shoot at night so… We get a half-hour lunch break each day. People think it’s a glamorous industry, [but] it’s not. It’s a lot of hard work. But network television at this level, I’ve never experienced anything like it in my career. It’s just like ‘Oh my God’. It’s quite astonishing how much of your life it takes. So you’ve really got to fight to keep some resemblance of normality outside the show.

NW - How do you do that?

Alex O'Loughlin - You really just have to roll with it. You’ve got to go home and take your shoes off and have dinner and try to relax – or have breakfast depending on what time you’re getting home! Just try to make every hour count with your people and for yourself.

NW - There was a rumour that you were the secret love child of Bon Scott, the late lead singer of AC/DC.

Alex O'Loughlin - Where did that rumour come from? That just knocked me.

NW - There's also another guy claiming that he is Bon's son...

Alex O'Loughlin - It’s the same photo that they used to compare me. And this other dude – he looks nothing like me! I was looking at it going [to actress/singer girlfriend Holly Valance], “Hol, I could be Bon Scott’s son”, and she said, “No you couldn’t, you don’t look anything like him.” This other bloke, maybe he is, good luck to him! [Laughs]

NW - It must be bizarre for a rumour like that just to come from nowhere.

Alex O'Loughlin - It is bizarre, man. But it wasn’t malicious, it was almost cool. Kind of mysterious. My Dad was cool as a cucumber, Mum was a little hurt. She was a little offended but she got over it. It’s just ridiculous.

NW - How did you and Holly meet?

Alex O'Loughlin - We met through a friend in Hollywood… And we got on very well and we’ve been together ever since. I don’t like talking about it too much – but I want to say that we’re happy.

NW - What was it like being asked to audition for James Bond?

Alex O'Loughlin - It was a couple of years ago now… They flew me over and looked after me very nicely for a week and cut a couple of suits for me and cut my hair and did a couple of scenes. To be honest, I knew I wasn’t going to get Bond, I’m too young… You never know, in a few years maybe…

NW - Do people in the street ever say "Mousey, Mousey?" to you, in reference to the tampon ad you starred in?

Alex O'Loughlin - So funny, man! Not recently, but that was a big favourite of a lot of people for a long time. One of the first times I was approached on the street in Australia – I’d done a few movies here and some theatre – somebody came up to me and went, “Do I know you?” I was like, “I don’t know”, and he’s like, “What do you do?” And I said, “I’m an actor.” I’m waiting for, “Oh, I saw you in this movie”, and they go, “I got it! Tampon boy!” And I go, “Yep, that’s me, I'm tampon boy.” I’m quite endeared to that little commercial.

August Rush is in [Australian] cinemas now.

Keep It Dark tonight for Moonlight!

Moonlight Friday......... remember to Keep It Dark for our show tonight! Turn off those televisions! Since CBS still isn't giving us any episodes on the official site, let's watch Love Lasts Forever (episode #1x11) together on the Veoh page. :) We've already increased the view count there from 8216 to 9141 just since Tuesday, March 11th. *cheer* I know we can blow that number up! Those of you with TiVo can watch your saved episodes.

And ~ of course ~ keep sending feedback to CBS.

Keep It Dark for Moonlight
Friday Nights until our show returns April 25th

8:00 PM to 10:00 PM Eastern/Pacific

Thanks to Vampire's Curse for the cool banner!

Matt Roush is asked why CBS moved Moonlight's return from April 11th to the 25th

Since CBS changed Moonlight's return from 04/11/08 to 04/25/08, I have received loads of concerned emails. As I said previously, one positive thing to keep in mind is our show will be on during the important May sweeps. Matt Roush brings up that same point in his response to a reader's question in his Ask Matt Column.

Question :

I'd like to know why Moonlight's next new episode was moved from April 11 to April 25? Are they simply not ready with the shows, or is it because of the replacement for Chip?— Sam

Matt Roush :

Given the behind-the-scenes chaos on this show, I'm thinking fans should consider themselves lucky with whatever they get whenever they get it. I don't know if production concerns are behind the delay, but practically speaking, it makes more sense for CBS to hold the episodes so all of the originals air during the May sweeps, which is what looks like is happening.

Hollywood Reporter gives hope to Moonlight fans by saying renewal is "probable"

A new article in The Hollywood Reporter is giving hope to us Moonlight fans. This is another confirmation of what we have already been discussing.... we need for the four new episodes to get big ratings!

At this point in the season, the strictly defined countries of "renewed" and "canceled" have acres of gray area in between. A couple dozen shows are clustered near the border, on the verge of being declared dead or alive for next season.

-- "Moonlight." CBS is playing wait-and-see with this Friday night show. The network is curious whether the show's fans return once it comes back from its strike-induced hiatus. But Moonlight fans are passionate, the show fits well into CBS' Friday night alternative crime block and an eventual pickup is probable.

Moonlight casting news ~ Eric Winter will play ADA Talbot

TV Guide's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Eric Winter will join Moonlight's cast. He will play ADA Talbot. It is great to hear of more progress toward our new episodes :) Hmmmmm.... in a previous post, I mentioned Talbot bringing some tension to the show. It looks like that is definitely gonna happen if he tries to become a rival for Beth's attention!

Doesn't look like that Kevin-Jason reunion is happening anytime soon on Brothers & Sisters. CBS' Moonlight has tapped the so-pretty-it-should-be-illegal Eric Winter for a major recurring role, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Winter, who's onboard for a minimum of three episodes beginning with the show's post-strike premiere on April 25, will play ADA Benjamin Talbot, a handsome, self-assured gent who plays by his own rules. I'm hearing Ben sets his sights on Beth (Sophia Myles), which, as you can imagine, makes Mick a very angry vampire.

This is definitely good news for Moonlight. Not so much for Brothers & Sisters. You with me?

Another new Moonlight video from CBS ~ The Human Experience

The second new video CBS made for us is titled The Human Experience. "Everyone's favorite, sexy immortal gets a taste of what it's like to be human again." Scenes from The Mortal Cure (episode #1x12) are used. It still makes me giggle to see Mick pigging out on that table laden with food.

New Moonlight video from CBS ~ D.I.Y. Vampire Spotting

WOW! CBS Eyelab has created not one, but TWO new Moonlight videos! They just released the clips a couple of hours ago.

This first video is titled D.I.Y. Vampire Spotting. "Your trusty friends at the EyeLab have come up with a sure fire way to identify vampires. Maybe if you're lucky, you can find one as sexy as Mick St. John!"

How to spot a Vampire....

1. What big eyes and teeth you have
2. Hey your heart's not beating

3. SPF infinity?

4. Cupcake test

5. So you don't have a bed?

6. Wow you can jump higher than M.J.

7. Did you get work done? Or are you immortal?

8. When in doubt burn 'em

Ausiello confirms Moonlight is NOT the "bubble show about to burst"

I have received messages from a lot of you who were concerned about Michael Ausiello's recent blind item. He hinted that a "bubble" show will soon be told it is cancelled. Many fans were worried he was talking about Moonlight. I assured you that our show is NOT the program in question. Now, Michael has confirmed that in his Ask Ausiello column on TV Guide's website this morning.

First.... here is his post that caused all the distress ~

If this blind item gives you a nagging sense of déjà vu, there's good reason: It's nearly identical to one I posted last year at this time concerning a beloved comedy that was on the verge of getting the ax because it lacked a key supporter at the network that aired it.

Cut to March 2008 and a similar situation is playing out with another wildly popular series, only this time the dispassionate network bigwig has a different name and the bubble show in question is a one-hour drama. According to my spies, said suit's beef with the series (which may or may not be on the same network as that other series) is twofold: He/she thinks it's creatively overrated and, more importantly, it's underperforming in the ratings (particularly given its budget).

And as bad luck would have it, this is the very person the program's top exec had to sit down with last week to pitch next season's potential hot plots to! One can only imagine the number of (Crickets) present at that meeting.

The good news? Not everyone at the network is hating on the endangered series. Plus, the plug hasn't been pulled yet!

Now, the response ~

Question :

For my sanity's sake, please tell me the "Bubble Show About to Burst" is not Moonlight. — Nicole

Ausiello :

Oh, that reminds me. I promised you guys a major clue, didn't I? Hmmm… let's see…. I can confirm that the bubble show at the center of my latest blind item is not Moonlight. Or any other show on CBS, for that matter.

Veoh is a free Internet TV service. Unlike YouTube, they have contracts with television networks which allow them to broadcast full episodes online. CBS has posted Love Lasts Forever (#1x11) on Veoh. Since no episodes of Moonlight are currently available on the official CBS site, we will just have to watch LLF. DARN... forced to see Mick working out over & over again. I think a photo of that scene would be perfect for this post. *wink* Of course, it is also sad due to what happens to one of our characters ~ not naming names for those who are new to this episode. Vamped out Mick and great action too.... really, LLF has it all.

Please, watch the Moonlight episodes you have saved on TiVo

Just a reminder to all those who have TiVo..... Each time you watch Moonlight's episodes, that information is reported to CBS. We want the viewing numbers to be huge, right? Of course, you must be set up to have your viewing habits sent to the network. If you are willing to do so, contact TiVo's customer service department to make sure you have opted in ~

Phone number (877) 367-8486 available 7am to 8pm Pacific Time.

Sophia Myles photos from the 10,000 BC movie premiere in LA

These photographs of our Sophia Myles are from her appearance at the 10,000 B.C. movie premiere. It was at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. She has such a lovely smile! One of the things I like about Sophia is how fresh she always looks. No caked on make-up for our girl. These are great photos. I hope lots of entertainment shows & magazines cover her being at the event. More publicity for Moonlight!

Matt Roush gives his opinion on whether or not CBS is trying to kill Moonlight

In his Ask Matt column today, TV Guide's Matt Roush gives his opinion regarding something that Moonlight fans have been concerned about for quite some time..... CBS' commitment to our show. He also agrees with us that Alex O'Loughlin is our show's biggest asset, and that the network knows they need to hold on to him.

Question :

Does it seem to you that CBS is actually trying to sabotage Moonlight? I mean, instead of repeating it, they put on The Price Is Right. Even if they wanted to air the game show, rerun Moonlight at 9 pm/ET in its regular slot, or even on another night to perhaps pick up a new fan base. I just watched New Amsterdam on Fox and frankly was unimpressed. I'll stay with it a while longer just to give it a shot, because I like this genre. The star (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is a good-looking guy, but he really does not compare with Alex O'Loughlin. Does CBS understand what a gold mine they have in him? Granted, the character of Mick St. John is sultry, but the real draw is O'Loughlin's drop-dead gorgeous looks and style as an actor — he actually makes Mick funny. You can't help but love the character. His smile lights up the screen. Honestly, if they cancel Moonlight, it would really be a shame, because it's on the verge of an extremely interesting storyline and the fan base seems to be huge. Could another network possibly pick it up (like Forever Knight)? There are so many twists and turns this show could take. Perhaps they should do an end date like Lost, where Mick either dies (heaven forbid), becomes human, turns Beth or realizes that Coraline is the one for him and they stay vampires together forever. Any thoughts?— Debbie

Matt Roush :

Beyond advising you to take a deep breath and calm down? (Although this kind of advice recently got me in hot water with Supernatural fans.) As I've suggested before, if CBS really had it in for Moonlight, the show would already have a stake in it and you wouldn't be getting four new episodes next month. The current hiatus is a result of the strike and is more about CBS preserving the series from repeating the same handful of episodes over and over, which tends to diminish a show's overall ratings average. (The hardcore Moonlight fan may have no problem watching episodes repeatedly, but most people don't watch TV that way, and that's what video recorders are for.) I agree with you about Alex O'Loughlin's appeal. He's been the show's main asset from the start. (I also agree he's more fun to watch than New Amsterdam's more reserved immortal hottie.) The fact that the show remains in production, despite a fair amount of behind-the-scenes chaos, is a sign to me that CBS would like to keep this franchise going and that the network is aware of what a keeper this star is. Just because you don't agree with a programming decision doesn't mean they're out to kill it. (If you want to see an example of a network actively doing its best to harm a show, check out what's happened to ABC's Men in Trees.)

Message from Alex O'Loughlin to Moonlight Fans

Alex O'Loughlin sent a thoughtful and informative message to Moonlight fans this afternoon. What a sweet man :)

Hello everyone!!

Dearest Friends, Family and devoted Fans.

Well I just thought i would put a blog out and touch base with everybody before this crazy show of mine goes back into production... which is happening any minute now!!

I have got to say that this show of ours is SUCH a little survivor, it's unbelievable! I mean, talk about delivering in the face of adversity...

* They completely recast the whole show around my character after the initial Pilot was shot (which never aired of course).

* We have gone through not 1..2....3............but 4 different Show Runners.

* We were fighting to survive, let alone get a pickup and the industry moved into a 3 month Writers Strike.

... and that is just the beginning of it.

With all that being said not only are we still on air with another pickup of 4-5 shows, but we won best new show in the People's Choice Awards!!

The award however, is only because of all you AWESOME fans out there. You guys take full credit for that one and know that from the bottom of our hearts, ALL of us here at MOONLIGHT (cast and crew) love you for it!!! ;)

I have been in touch with a number of you individually but i wanted to send out a group mail to let you all know what has been happening recently in the world of Alex.

I have been all over the planet in the last 2 months, Australia twice, London, Paris, Rome, Dublin and back through LA like three times where I now find myself, back at home gathering my thoughts and readying myself for the onslaught that is MOONLIGHT to come. Honestly... I cant wait!!

My travels have been as extensive as they have because i have been promoting the show for the world market. We have started airing in different regions of Europe with a lot still to come and already are being received very well. I saw how hard you all fought to keep this great story alive while i was here shooting it and realized that though i had some time away from the set and the cameras over this strike period and during the Christmas break, i had to keep working as hard as you guys have been so when the time does finally come for our second season pickup (and it's not too far away now!) we know we all did everything we could.

I am currently working on a refurbished MySpace page and official Alex O'Loughlin fan page which I look forward with great anticipation to delivering to you.

I am well. I am happy. I am focused and i am ready, once again, to pour everything i can back into this great little show of ours to make it the best i possibly can!!

Wish me luck my friends.

All my love and appreciation,
Alex xox

If this doesn't inspire you to fight for Moonlight and SAVE OUR VAMPIRE, nothing will.

Donating to the Alliance for Children's Rights in honor of Moonlight and Nina Tassler

The Alliance for Children's Rights is an amazing charity. It offers many much needed programs such as health care, special education, mentoring, court advocacy for abused & abandoned kids, assistance with adoption and for those exiting the foster care system. When I think of the children who have nothing and nobody, it breaks my heart.

Mission Statement ~

"The Alliance for Children's Rights is protecting the rights and futures of abused and impoverished children throughout Los Angeles County, in hopes of creating a world in which all children are able to have a safe and permanent family, access to quality health care, a quality education, and all of the support and services they so rightfully deserve."

During their 15th anniversary dinner on Monday, March 10th, 2008 Nina Tassler (President of CBS Entertainment) will be presented with the National Champion for Children Award! I am happy to hear that she is so involved with such a wonderful charity.

Of course, you are aware that Nina supported Moonlight from the beginning. She has famously been quoted as saying she was "smitten" with Alex O'Loughlin the first time she met him. Who isn't?!? *wink*

I have made a donation to The Alliance for Children's Rights specifying that it is in honor of Moonlight and Nina. A card is sent to the person to notify them of your donation in their name. My thinking is this charity more than deserves our support.... I want to thank Nina for standing up for Moonlight.... AND encourage her to continue to do so :)

Moonlight fans are a generous & caring bunch, so I knew you would want to hear this news also. For others who would like to volunteer, contribute to this incredible organization or find out more about their programs, here is a link ~

You can call directly to donate in honor of someone at ( 213 ) 368-6010.

More SPOILERS for Moonlight's next episode ~ Fated to Pretend (#1x13)

More spoiler fun from the script for Moonlight's next new episode ~ Fated to Pretend (#1x13)! Be prepared..... this is not as vague as the first info that leaked out. :>

MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!

Mick asks Beth to come over for dinner.....

Beth ~ You're going to cook me dinner?
Mick ~ I'm gonna try.
Beth ~ Is this like a "date"?
Mick ~ If you want it to be.
Beth thinks about the ramifications of a "date" with Mick.
Beth ~ Yeah. I do.

I know you are breathless after that.... but you are gonna need to take a DEEP breath before reading what happens next!

ADA Talbot, Mick and Beth confront a plastic surgeon about the death of a patient. While questioning Doctor Anderson in his office, Mick realizes that he is a Vampire. He tries to protect Beth and Talbot. Anderson shoves Beth aside, splitting her lip in the process. The vamp sends Mick smashing through his glass desk. Mick is knocked out. :( Beth shoots Anderson, but of course that does not stop him.

A groggy Talbot opens his eyes just long enough to see Anderson take a long lick of Beth's cheek.

Anderson ~ Hmmm. Type AO Negative. Very tasty.

Josef arrives. Mick is still motionless & covered with glass from the desk. Josef feeds Mick his blood! Mick comes to and transforms back into a Vampire. THEN..... Josef and Mick fight Anderson, & his sidekick vamps, together!

Anderson (re Mick's appearance) ~ You're a......
Mick ~ Oh yeah.
Anderson's two thugs move to intercept Mick and Josef.
Josef ~ It is SO on
What ensues is a full-on, knock down, drag out, VAMPIRE ASS KICKING FIGHT. It will be brutal, bloody and deadly.

Mick, more skilled and practiced, fights methodically, while Josef fights with a fury and the reckless abandon of someone thoroughly enjoying himself.

Throughout the fight, Talbot & Beth remain blindfolded, or at least semi-blindfolded.

Hmmmmm.... I wonder if the vamp investigation that was originally written for Josh will now be given to the new ADA.

Mick and Josef move to Beth and Talbot.
Mick ~ It's okay. I'm here.
He takes off her blindfold. She sees his face. No wounds.
Beth ~ How? Mick, what happened?
Mick ~ I... Like they say, life's short.
Mick unties a confused Beth and scoops her into his arms.

Our writers are the absolute best! They never let us down.

Again, this info is how the script reads for now. Things can change. Remember in the original script for The Mortal Cure (episode #1x12), Celeste was supposed to be helping Josh investigate Vampires. In the finished product, she had become his jeweler. I really hope they don't change a thing! This is my kinda action episode :) You know that I have been dreaming of the day we get to see Josef in action. Some of my fave scenes are when he & Mick worked together in The Ringer (episode #1x07). It would make me too happy if they keep the "Vampire ass kicking fight" scenes!

I was already counting the days til April 25th.... How am I gonna wait to see what happens now!?!?

Alex O'Loughlin article and interview in CBS Watch! Magazine's April Issue

CBS Watch! Magazine has a new article and interview with Alex O'Loughlin in the April 2008 issue. I'm happy to see them featuring Moonlight and Alex. We need more promotion like this to get everyone excited about the show returning in April :) Funny tho how even a CBS article gets some of the little details wrong.

Interview with the new Vampire
by Lynn Morgan

Put away your garlic and wooden stakes. Thanks to a new twist on the vampire legend, Moonlight's Alex O'Loughlin is emerging from the shadows as a TV heartthrob

"I've always been interested in storytelling," Alex O'Loughlin says. "Even as a kid, I've always been the guy spinning a yarn around the campfire."

The campfire is now TV, and the 32 year old Australian born star of Moonlight is mesmerizing an audience of millions with his portrayal of Mick St John, a private detective with a unique affinity for the dark side : He is a 90 year old vampire. And playing the broodingly sexy St John has anointed O'Loughlin TV's newest dark heartthrob.

"I've always loved the genre," says O'Loughlin. "I'm a big fan of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. The travels of Lestat are my favorites. I've always wanted to play a vampire. It's like playing a character with several different personalities."

As a fan of scary movies and dark literature, O'Loughlin feels right at home in this haunted and shadowy role. "It's an opportunity to play with bigger ideas," he says. "Infinity, immortality, the dichotomy within the character."

Taking a Stake to Convention

O'Loughlin is surprised and mildly taken aback by the fervor with which fans have embraced the show, a modern Gothic tale that combines elements of action, film noir and romance, and their passionate dedication to all things vampiric. Moonlight updates the legends of the undead, toying with the established and cherished mythology. Moonlight offers a 21st century version of the ancient dark archetype : no capes, no coffins, no wild-eyed, obsessive Van Helsings brandishing crucifixes. Most shocking of all to many dedicated vamp fans is Mick's ability to survive sunlight.

Some of their chat room comments have filtered down to O'Loughlin, and he greets their theories with good humor. "Daylight weakens Mick," he explains patiently. "He can go out into the sunlight, briefly, if he keeps to the shadows. The sun weakens him, and lengthy exposure to the light will kill him. We explored those things in the fourth episode when Beth [Sophia Myles] finds out the truth about Mick."

Reinterpreting this evocative symbol keeps vampires relevant and eternally fascinating. Novelists Laurell K. Hamilton, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro and, most recently Elizabeth Kostova have all put their unique spins on the conventions established by Bram Stoker and set in stone by Bela Lugosi. Moonlight creators Ron Koslow and Trevor Munson and executive producer Joel Silver are just taking their turn reimagining a world of the undead, and O'Loughlin is excited to be a part of it.

Shadow of Doubt

Moonlight is a breakthrough role for O'Loughlin, who arrived in Hollywood just three years ago from Australia. He worked in television playing guest roles - including an acclaimed performance on The Shield - and was narrowly beaten out for another iconic role by Daniel Craig, who was cast instead of O'Loughlin as the new James Bond.

Moonlight has brought him a new level of visibility for which he was not entirely prepared, but which he confronts squarely with a level head and a sense of humor.

"Fame is kind of frightening. I don't yearn for it," O'Loughlin says. "All of a sudden, you are driving home one night, and there's your head, 30 feet tall, on a billboard on Sunset Boulevard. I was an actor in theater in Sydney, and I've done little indie films that paid nothing. I am not an actor for that kind of recognition. I like playing parts that I can disappearin. I enjoy hiding behind my characters."

O'Loughlin is refreshingly irreverent about his new status as a heartthrob as well. Despite those ubiquitous billboards, he is convinced he is safely hidden behind Mick St John. "It doesn't look like me!" he laughs. "It doesn't even look like Mick! Between the wind machine blowing my hair around and the retouching, it looks nothing like me."

Fans of Moonlight obviously disagree. O'Loughlin's gravel-over-velvet voice and dark, rock-star charisma have them swooning. To them, he is the hottest bloodsucker since Brad Pitt hung up the fake fangs back in 1994.

Blood, Sweat and Tears

"I don't see myself that way at all!" the self-effacing actor scoffs, explaining that he's much more interested in exploring the depths of his character than in polishing the cosmetic surface. Moonlight's Mick St John is a tangle of contradictions, ambivalent about his vampiric state and ill at ease with his possible immortality, in high contrast with his amoral sidekick, Jozef Konstan (Jason Dohring), a billionaire vampire who is a blithe bloodsucker, comically unconflicted about his predator status - the insouciant Lestat to Mick's tormented Louis.

"Mick is the loneliest man in the world," O'Loughlin says. "Even though he's surrounded by people, he's isolated and cut off from his own humanity. Mentally, he's one of the most damaged characters I have ever played. He's not in a lot of physical jeopardy, but emotionally, he's a wreck. I try to reach inside of him and find the humanity at his heart."

O'Loughlin leaves the grim and angsty stuff on screen, though. Personally, he's cheeky and charming with a raucous laugh and a sexy, Down Under accent. He would rather ride motorcycles than brood, and his hobbies are more rugged than moody : running, rock climbing, and sailing "badly." He does as many of his own stunts on the show "as the insurance company will let me," he says. And to stay in shape for the grueling work, he spends his downtime on set in his trailer doing a punishing Navy SEAL workout to keep up with the physical demands of the role. After all, nobody would be scared of a flabby vampire.

Sound Bites

Recently, movie audiences got to see a different side of the actor as he played the brother of Jonathan Rhys Meyers' character in the movie August Rush, a holiday fable about the healing power of music. O'Loughlin got to showcase a few of his other talents in the film - singing and playing the guitar (in real life, O'Loughlin plays both acoustic and electric guitar).

When asked about his favorite musician, it takes the actor a moment or two to sort through the many possibilities before settling on one : "Hendrix. Definitely Jimi Hendrix. I don't play anything like him, but he's my favorite. He was the best."

Moonlight has a subtle musical subtext that will move to the forefront in upcoming episodes, when audiences will get to hear O'Loughlin play on the show as part of Mick's character development.

The actor remains intrigued by the character's possibilities and the potential for telling more stories about Mick St John. It's his purpose in being a performer. "I want to do work that's meaningful to me and touches people," he insists. "I don't care about being a heartthrob or any of that crap. I care about having somebody come up to me on the street and say, 'That meant a lot to me.'"

He has had that moment in his own life. "When I met Robert De Niro in New York, I got to sit and talk with him for a few minutes," O'Loughlin recalls. "It was amazing. He taught me a lot as a young man, through his work, and the characters he played. He helped me get through adolescence and along the road growing up."

One of the things he has come to understand along that road is the signifigance of stories, and of telling them. "I've always appreciated art and music, different forms of expression," O'Loughlin says. "As an adult, I appreciate the opportunity to tell important stories."

Keep It Dark campaign continues Friday, March 7th

The Keep It Dark for Moonlight campaign continues Friday, March 7th, 2008. CBS is only streaming Arrested Development (episode #1x05) on Moonlight's official site. Guess what we are watching tomorrow night?! hahahaha.... This is very important. Streaming video hits are tracked. We want the network to see that huge numbers of viewers are willing to watch our show online. Also, keep asking CBS to add more to the "Full Episode" menu. It would be great if they would put up the last few (Love Lasts Forever #1x11 & The Mortal Cure #1x12 at least) in preparation for the new episodes.

SPOILER ALERT ~ Info for Moonlight's next NEW episode ~ Fated to Pretend (#1x13)

FINALLY! It is spoiler time for the first new Moonlight episode ~ Fated to Pretend (#1x13) airing on Friday, April 25th, 2008. Getting back to our normal routine makes the return feel more real. It is wonderful to have something new to discuss! Unlike the rumored spoilers that floated around recently, this has been confirmed with several sources. Do not read if you wanna be surprised :)

SPOILER ALERT!

Maureen, Beth's editor & boss at Buzzwire, is killed not long after confiding to Beth about a hot story to chase. Benjamin Talbot, a new ADA, is in charge of her murder investigation. Of course, Mick and Beth begin their own investigation. Talbot warns them that if any evidence is tainted it would mean that Maureen's killer would walk. Beth & Mick's snooping leads them to Bonnie. She is the daughter of a local politician on the verge of being elected mayor. She is also hiding a huge, painful secret about him. Keeping this secret is tearing her up. She tries to commit suicide, but Mick comes to her rescue with an understanding ear, and some "human speed" reflexes.

Wow! My thoughts...... Poor Beth! Another person close to her is going to die. :( Mick is obviously still human in this episode. From what I read in the script, that does not stop him from putting himself in danger to help others. We knew that he would still be our big hearted Mick whether he is human or vamp :) Mick and Beth working together again! YEA! It also appears that new ADA Talbot is not fond of Mick. Hmmmm.... a little tension added to the story. As you know, the script is subject to change.

New Jason Dohring interview and article in Portrait Magazine

Portrait is an informative and fun online magazine. In their March 2008 issue, they have a new article & interview with our Jason. Angela Lee did a wonderful job with this feature!

Jason Dohring: In Demand
By Angela Lee

Over the past few months we’ve received many requests to feature the one and only Jason Dohring. Just like the man himself, Portrait is more than happy to deliver fans requests, and with great timing too! On the occasion of this talented actor’s birthday later this month, Portrait presents to you this must have guide to Jason Dohring.

You know him best as the tortured but snarky Logan Echolls on “Veronica Mars” and the mischievous vampire Josef Konstan on “Moonlight”, and although these two characters share similar characteristics, Jason is different to his alter egos. “It’s funny – I always get these characters that I’m so afraid of – I so feel like I can’t…I’m like, this is so not me. With Logan, I thought, “Why me? I’m a nice guy,” says Jason, who interestingly enough originally auditioned for the role of nice guy Duncan Kane on “Veronica Mars”.

It’s one thing to imagine Jason not playing Logan on “Veronica Mars”, but can you imagine if Jason wasn’t a regular on the show? No way right? Initially, Jason was meant to be a guest star and Michael Muhney’s Sheriff Lamb was meant to be a regular instead. “I think Logan became a much bigger character than anticipated. It’s the result of Jason Dohring being an engaging performer that all the writers wanted to write for him,” divulges show creator Rob Thomas.

When “Veronica Mars” came to an end, Jason’s popularity carried onto “Moonlight” and grew even more. Not actually part of the original “Moonlight” cast, since Josef was a 60 year old man, Jason found himself a contender when the show received an overhaul. Aware of Jason’s talent, executive producer of “Moonlight” Joel Silver, who was also the executive producer on “Veronica Mars”, pushed for Jason to be cast on “Moonlight”. “I would say very influential is an understatement, because he [Joel] pushed for me all the way,” reveals Jason. “He really did. Once they made this character into a 25 year old, he though of me and took me all the way through the network.” And just like on “Veronica Mars”, Jason’s “Moonlight” co-stars love him too! “Jason is just, like the most other-centred person that I know. He’s always thinking about other people, he’s always, he’s so generous with his time. I’d work again with him in a heartbeat,” Alex O’Loughlin, who plays Mick St John, told Moonlight-Detective.Com in an interview recently.

While his co-stars may gush about him and Jason is respectfully in awe of them as well, is there anyone that Jason would love to work with in the future? “I’d love to work with Ryan Gosling, I think he’s awesome. I think Jeff Bridges is unbelievable. I think he’s very underrated. Alfred Molina, I love. I think Meryl Streep is fantastic, I think she does amazing work. Jessica Lange is beautiful,” praises Jason.

Onscreen he’s had his fair share of love interest as the misunderstood-but-really-just-wants-to-be-loved-rich-kid on “Veronica Mars” to the billionaire playboy on “Moonlight”, but in real life Jason only has eyes for his wife Lauren, who is a painter.

The pair met in high school and were friends before they started dating, and married in 2004. “At the end of the day, it’s great to have someone who is your good friend to talk to and being able to be around someone you can be yourself with makes for a long lasting relationship,” says Jason. “It’s just so comfortable.”

Also highlighting the difference between Jason and his alter egos is the close relationship that Jason has with his family. Born on 30 March, 1982 in Ohio, to Doug and Laurie Dohring, Jason William Dohring is big brother to twins Robert and Jonathan, and twins Kelsey and Kirsten. That’s right, two sets of twins! “We don’t have twins anywhere else in the family so it’s like a one in a million chance,” says Jason. In fact it was through his siblings who were child actors (Kelsey and Kirsten played Chrissy on “Growing Pains”), that Jason got into acting. From the age of eight to twelve, Jason starred in commercials such as one for American Express and Sharp Electronics, before moving onto guest appearances in television shows such as “Roswell”, “Judging Amy”, “Once and Again”, “Boston Public”, “Jag”, and “Cold Case”. He has also starred in films such as Deep Impact, Black Cadillac, The Deep Below, and the Disney movie Ready to Run.

Although Jason shot to international fame with his role on “Veronica Mars” and has now become increasingly recognized for his work on Moonlight, Jason is continually looking for ways to better his acting skills. “I just try keeping an eye open for new stuff, listening, watching movies,” he says. In between filming seasons of “Veronica Mars”, Jason continued to take acting classes to further develop his craft. (See? How awesome and humble is this guy?) But if he wasn’t an actor, what would he do? “I would probably be like, I don’t know. A race car driver? A motorcycle driver? Something like that – that sounds like fun. Maybe a teacher. An acting teacher? I like people,” ponders Jason.

One thing that you may not know about Jason is that he is a 2nd generation Scientologist. There may have been some colourful ideas associated with the religion, but for Jason it has aided him creatively, so who are we to complain? “The misconceptions that occur with people who haven’t ever read a book about it, or don’t know what it’s about. They’re just taking someone else’s false opinion of what it is,” explains Jason. “Just for me, it saved my acting career. I became a professional through Scientology…I understand acting better because Scientology is the study of life.”

Also an inspiration to Jason are his fans, who Jason has nothing but praise for. “I’m a huge fan of fans and it is so fantastic when they write in; I love that. You get real feedback and it’s inspiring to keep on your game and keep trying,” declares Jason. Thanks to his work on “Veronica Mars” and “Moonlight”, Jason has an ever-growing fanbase but he hasn’t let it go his head, instead remaining ever so humble. It’s one thing to acknowledge fans and another to truly appreciate them, which is what Jason does. “Meeting Jason in person is something that never gets old. He takes the time to get to know you when you’re talking to him each time, and really remembers as much as he can the next time he sees you,” says dedicated Jason fan, Roz Foster, who has been lucky enough to have met Jason on several occasions. Echoing Roz’s sentiments is another loyal Jason fan fortunate enough to have met him – Jennifer Riddle. “He’s such an easy-going guy and really treats his fans with love and respect. He loves his job, but he loves his fans even more, and you can see it when you meet him in person,” says Jennifer. “He’s very down to Earth and will pretty much do anything you ask of him. Whether it’s taking a picture, signing an autograph, or even calling one of your friends because they couldn’t make the trip to meet him.”

Aww. Passionate, dedicated, talented, appreciative, good looking, humble – no wonder everyone loves him!

*Fast Facts*

Favorite movies – One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest, Jerry Maguire. Love Actually, Crash.

Favorite TV shows – “Family Guy”, “Deadwood”, “The Office”.

Acting Idols – Sean Penn, Marlon Brando, James Dean, Gary Oldman

Music Tastes – “I have such a range, it’s ridiculous. Elton John, Postal Service, Reo Speedwagon, some country. I like music that has emotion. I love to feel that passion that music has,” says Jason.

Jason is actually quite a big sports guy. His sports range from golf to tennis, baseball to basketball, snowboarding to volleyball.

Jason can cook – “I’ll have you know I make awesome artichokes and salads, as well as steak,” he says.

Jason is very passionate when it comes to children and prescription drugs – “I have very strong opinions about the psychiatric drugging of children. Pisses me off that we prescribe a drug to kids (Ritalin) that is in the same class as heroin,” declares Jason.

Ausiello's Poll ~ Which bubble show deserves another season the most?

Remember to vote for Moonlight in the "Which 'bubble' show deserves another season the most?" poll that Michael Ausiello has running on TV Guide's website. I have received many emails from people who are concerned about the percentages, how the poll works, etc. Apparently, Michael has been fielding questions about the same thing. Here is the response he posted in his Ask Ausiello column this morning.....

Question: Why isn't Friday Night Lights included in your bubble-show poll? I'm seriously panicking, should I be panicking? — Brandy

Ausiello: Ugh. This damn bubble poll is turning out to be more trouble than it's worth. I just revamped it for the umpteenth time to add FNL (an oversight) and Journeyman (don't ask), and remove Supernatural (already renewed). But if I hear one more complaint, the whole thing's coming down.

Promoting Moonlight on the Hey! Nielsen website

You have been doing a wonderful job of not only keeping Moonlight at number one on the Hey! Nielsen rankings chart, but also putting our stars in the Top 10 ~ Sophia Myles, Alex O'Loughlin, Jason Dohring and Shannyn Sossaman. If we just get Brian J White in there, we will have it all :) As we've discussed previously, Hey! Nielsen is a division of the Nielsen Television Ratings family. Please, continue promoting Moonlight on the website.

Fan Video ~ Mick St John ~ Smile Part 2

More Alex O'Loughlin smiles..... DARN! ha! This video is part 2 by Purpldy. Scenes from Out of The Past (episode #1x02) and Dr Feelgood (episode #1x03). Music ~ Smile by Ricky Lee Jones.

Fan Video ~ Mick St John ~ Smile Part 1

I've wondered aloud numerous times... just how many smiles does Alex O'Loughlin have in his arsenal?! Purpldy has created a video for us to capture a few of his Mick St John versions. She is documenting them from the beginning. This great black and white video ~ Smile Part 1 ~ has clips from No Such Thing as Vampires (pilot episode #1x01) and Out of The Past (episode #1x02). Fittingly, she is using the song "Smile" by the wonderful Nat King Cole.

CBS adds a count down clock to Moonlight's official website

I hope you have been visiting the official CBS website for Moonlight every day. Remember, they track the hits each show's page receives. If you have been to our show's site, you must have been happy as I was to see that they have actually updated it. A count down clock has been added to let us know how much longer we have to wait for Moonlight to return.

"Lead me out of the dark and into the MOONLIGHT... MickBeth returns April 25th on CBS"

Great fan video promoting Moonlight's return on April 25th

Paranormalfan has made an incredible fan promo for Moonlight's return on April 25th. Vamped out Mick St John ~ YUM! Lots of action scenes in the video to go along with great music. The song she uses is Ladies and Gentlemen by Saliva.
