Alex O'Loughlin apologizes for missing BBM Convention

Alex O'Loughlin has written another sweet message for us fans. Always the gentleman, he takes the opportunity to apologize to fans who had hoped to see him at the Breakout Before Moonlight/Star Fury convention (Heathrow, London England). However, don't forget that our marvelous Jason Dohring ~ aka Josef ~ is still scheduled to be there at the moment.

May '09

Hey everybody!

Thought I would drop you all a quick line and let you know that things are going really well.

I finished Three Rivers and landed the role in Jennifer Lopez' new film The Back Up Plan, which I have been madly working on preparing since I got back from Pittsburgh.

It is very exciting news about this film, and I think it will be a really good thing for me but it does mean I am going to have to miss out on other things. One of these being the Star Fury event in London which I was looking forward to very much.

I really wanted to reach out to anyone who was going to come and say hello to me there.

I know that when you buy your tickets they tell you we (the actors) may not be there if we get a job, but I'm sorry all the same. I wanted to be there too but this film I could not pass up. I hope you guys understand.

Also, thank you so much to all the people who tuned into my Criminal Minds episode the other night. It was a fun show to be a part of.

All my love to you all.

Reader's question about Sophia Myles' career answered

A lovely Moonlightfan Blog reader sent this scan to me ~ to share with you, of course :) It is a Q&A about Sophia Myles in the USA Weekend Sunday newspaper insert. Ooooooo.... and the marvelous photo used is from Sophia's appearance at the Paley Center's Moonlight panel in April. She looks gorgeous!

Question : Is Sophia Myles, who played Beth in the now canceled CBS series Moonlight, a new actress? - Tony Amodeo, Phoenix

Answer : No. But she got her start in England, making her screen debut at 16 on British TV. She likes to vary her roles, but "vampires have been very kind to my career," says Myles, 28, who has appeared in a BBC version of Dracula, as well as Underworld and its sequel. "The power of the vamp is huge." Unfortunately, it wasn't huge enough to get Moonlight a second season on CBS. - Contributing : Gayle Jo Carter & Nancy Mills

Video ~ Living TV's UK promo for Moonlight's season finale ~ Sonata (episode #1x16)

This video is the promo commercial that Living TV is airing in the UK for Moonlight's season finale ~ Sonata (episode #1x16). Great advert! Living really does a fantastic job promoting our show. LOVE the close up they use of Mick St John, our delicious Alex O'Loughlin, at the beginning ( that little smile ) & the one of him vamped out. *swoon* Then, Josef Kostan ( Jason Dohring ) vamping AND hissing. Excellent! I also like seeing the Beth Turner ( Sophia Myles ) & Cleaner ( Claudia Black ) scenes they selected for the clip.

Josef ~ "And, I've got commitment issues." Mick ~ "Yea, me too." hehehehe....

Sonata (episode #1x16) airs on Living TV in the UK ~ Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008 at 10:00 pm.

Yahoo! TV UK & Ireland's brief new interview with Sophia Myles

Another fun, quick interview with Sophia Myles from Yahoo! TV UK & Ireland. We have heard Alex talk about the long hours they put in on Moonlight's set. Here, Sophia also describes the grueling amount of time that goes into filming our show.

Moonlight Becomes Her

Sophia Myles has starred in some of the biggest projects of the past few years. She was Lady Penelope in Thunderbirds; the eponymous heroine in Tristan + Isolde, and is now making a name for herself in US hit series Moonlight.

The 28-year-old Brit admits she's having a great time making the spooky thriller series [playing Beth Turner], despite an often-gruelling schedule.

"We work days the first few days of the week then we claw back further and further, so towards the end of the week we'll work Thursday night into Friday morning; sleep Friday then work Friday night into Saturday morning.

"We call that day 'Fratterday' because it completely obliterates you. You only get a one day weekend because you sleep all day Saturday."

How would she describe the series?

"Moonlight is sexy, sexy, sexy, but for all the right reasons. I just think there's something rather magical about it actually, and it's just a beautiful story. It's a joy for us to tell it. I hope our audience will carry on lapping it up and enjoying it."

Moonlight can be seen Tuesdays at 10pm on Living.

Sophia Myles discusses her birthday in a new interview

The Yahoo! TV UK & Ireland site has a new, short interview with Sophia Myles. As you remember, her birthday was March 18th... and I mentioned that her wish of celebrating at home in England wasn't gonna happen because filming had begun again on Moonlight. We knew the crew & cast would make sure she had a wonderful time. Apparently, they wanted to give her a sugar rush! ha! In this interview, Sophia discusses her fun bday on the set.

SPOILER ALERT! Sophia gives mild spoilers for the Fated to Pretend episode (#1x13).

Sophia's Birthday Cake(s)

If there's no rest for the wicked, then actress Sophia Myles must be very naughty indeed. Although she celebrated her 28th birthday last Tuesday, the star of Living's hit supernatural drama Moonlight had to work.

On the plus side, she was in sun-kissed LA instead of at home in rain-lashed Blighty, and admits she had a fine time.

"I had a lovely day. It's because we were working, so it was not a problem at all turning a year older. I was on the Warner Brothers lot with all my Moonlight friends, so it was nice."

The birthday shoot involved filming one of her most bizarre scenes to date.

"I had to eat a f*** load of doughnuts, and I've been trying to lose a few pounds, because obviously there was the Christmas break," she smiles. "It was a case involving a killer doughnut.

"This is so funny; a lady's invented a doughnut that helps you to lose weight, so she's one of the suspects. Alex (O'Loughlin) and I had to eat doughnuts on camera.

"They shot so much coverage of the scene and we ended up eating so many. It was my birthday so I suppose it didn't really matter. And then they bought out a huge chocolate cake at the end of the day. I thought: 'What are you guys trying to do to me? I'll have to get the next sized jeans up for tomorrow.'" she laughs.

A typically slimline Sophia Myles can be seen in Moonlight, Tuesdays at 10pm, on Living.

UK's Daily Star mentions Holly Valance and Moonlight

Moonlight's B.C. episode (#1x06) will air in the UK on Tuesday. The Daily Star did a blurb about Holly Valance who appears as the stunning Lola in that particular episode. Unfortunately, they had a few issues... such as calling Beth BAth and saying Mick is a lawyer. Hmmmmm... I wonder if the writer has ever watched the show. It is good to see Moonlight being mentioned by the media tho.

KINKY HOLLY VAMPS IT UP FOR NEW SHOW

FANGS are looking up for Holly Valance.

She has landed the role of a sexy vampire in new series Moonlight.

Former soap star Holly, 24, plays sultry Lola in an episode of the show on March 25.

Lola is a 500-year-old bloodsucker who comes under suspicion when party-goers who visit her nightclub end up dead.

Sticking her nose into the investigation is TV reporter Bath – played by David Tennant’s ex-love, Sophia Myles, 27.

Holly, who played Felicity “Flick” Scully in Neighbours for three years, enjoyed getting her teeth into her new role. But, there might just be another reason why she joined the show.

Her boyfriend Alex O’Loughlin, 31, happens to have the lead role in the series – on Living TV on Tuesdays at 10pm – as lawyer Mick St John, who is also a secret vampire.

UK's Sunday Express interviews Sophia Myles

The UK's Sunday Express has interviewed our Sophia. She looks soooo beautiful in the picture they used to accompany the article! I admire how grounded and unpretentious she is... not impressed by her own celebrity. That makes me like her even more.

As in other interviews, Sophia has only good things to say about Alex. We are very fortunate to have a cast that gets along this well.

One thing she mentions is possibly going home to London for her bday. Since filming has started again on Moonlight, she may not have gotten her wish. Hopefully, she went before production resumed last week.

Moonlight becomes her
English Rose Sophia Myles has bloomed in Hollywood - thanks to a pop star boyfriend and a top-rated new drama series
By Olivia Robinson

Being dumped by Doctor Who can't be any girl's idea of fun. And when David Tennant called time on his two-year relationship with Sophia Myles in October last year, citing her move to the States, the actress was reported to be "heartbroken."

But today, on a bright, sunny LA morning, all that seems a universe away. Far from moping, the 27 year old Londoner is in buoyant spirits. And she's reportedly dating again - the lucky man being bass player Paul Wilson of Irish band Snow Patrol. So will she talk about her new love?

"Oh, you mean my puppy," she smiles. "He's a little black and tan terrier called Jackson, and he can't leave the United States for six months, so I stayed here with him and went to the beach on Christmas Day. I had a very quiet, gentle time. I was amazing."

We'll take that as a no. But she's more forthcoming about Australian heartthrob Alex O'Loughlin, her co-star in Moonlight, the US show for which she crossed the pond and left Time Lord Tennant behind. "I can't speak about Alex highly enough. He's like an older brother to me and we laugh constantly," she says. "There's something about a Brit and an Aussie together. It's a good combo. We're outrageous. Sometimes the Americans don't know what to do with us."

Their friendship is purely platonic - Alex is dating Australian soap-star-turned-singer Holly Valance - but there's no doubting that the sparks fly between them on screen. As private investigator Mick St John and Internet reporter Beth Turner, they are the could-be couple who launched countless YouTube videos and helped Moonlight win the People's Choice Award for favourite new TV drama last month.

The fact that he's a reformed vampire who rescued her from kidnappers as a child and has pined for her ever since has only added fuel to the fire. "The love story is so interesting because he's immortal," Sophia explains. "And the chemistry between Alex and me seems to work. It's one of those things that everyone wants. Money can't buy it and there's no logical formula to create it. We're lucky, the sum of the two of us works really well. In fact, this is the most amazing job on earth and I'm having the most amazing time."

Sophia grew up in west London where her father, Peter, was a vicar and her mother, Jane, worked in publishing. She was spotted in a school play by actor and Oscar winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park), who put her forward for the part of Lady Jane Grey in a BBC production of The Prince and the Pauper.

She loved the experience so much that she decided against following her mother to Cambridge, where she had a conditional offer to study philosophy, preferring instead to pursue acting.

Her down-to-earth demeanour and classic English rose looks soon won her a reputation as the next Kate Winslet. "The comparison has been made for as long as I can remember," says Sophia, "and it's a delightful one."

A number of period dramas followed, including TV adaptations of Oliver Twist and Nicholas Nickleby, a small role in Foyle's War, as well as film parts in Mansfield Park, The Abduction Club and From Hell with Johnny Depp.

But then, at the age of 21, she took the big decision to try her luck in Hollywood. "I wasn't getting enough work in England, so I came over with 200 in my pocket," she recalls. "A friend of mine was house-sitting for someone so I lived there for free for a month."

Fortune smiled on Sophia when she won a bit part in the 2003 vampire movie Underworld, with Kate Beckinsale. She also appeared in its sequel and was hailed as the next big thing when she landed the role of Lady Penelope in 2004's much hyped live-action update of TV classic Thunderbirds.

The film proved a disappointment and, though Sophia received good reviews, her professional achievements were soon overshadowed when news spread of her affair with actor Charles Dance, 34 years her senior. Coinciding as it did with the end of his marriage to his wife of almost 25 years, the liaison - albeit brief - caused quite a stir. Sophia maintained a dignified silence on the matter, resolving to avoid the celebrity gossip culture at all costs and keep the focus on her work.

She has now signed a six-and-a-half year contract for Moonlight, and has settled in LA for the foreseeable future. "This is the longest I've ever been here," she reveals. "I've decided that, at this point in my life, I can't really call any country or any house in particular my home."

"I have a flat in London and I have a place that I'm renting here, but I've been a globetrotter since I left school. I don't really live anywhere but I do feel very welcome in Los Angeles."

No that she doesn't long for the comforts of home every now and then. "Homesickness comes in waves," she says. "I miss simple things - I was having Pizza Express cravings the other day. I miss the accent, the dry sense of humour and I just miss the smell of England. It's home."

She's planning a trip back for her 28th birthday, but in the meantime she's hardly short of home-grown company, thanks to the wave of Brit stars including Damian Lewis, Michelle Ryan, Jonny Lee Miller and Lena Headey who have taken over American television of late.

"It has been the invasion this year," Sophia laughs. "I'm thrilled that everyone's doing well. I've become very good friends with Anna Friel, who's out here doing Pushing Daisies. She and I have become comrades, giving each other advice and help as we've gone along."

"We both left messages on each other's answering machines, having meltdowns, freaking out that we were so tired and we didn't know whether we were going to survive. She's just bought a lovely house here, so I go and see her and hang out."

But doesn't she miss her old mates back in the UK? "Of course I do. It's kind of hard when I'm working, but I've had mates out and I'm going to have more people come over. The right relationships are going to stand the test of time. Real relationships will function no matter where you are in the world."

Did you hear that, Doctor?

Video ~ The Living Channel's promo for Moonlight with NEW footage of Alex O'Loughlin as Mick St John

We have been in need of a fresh Alex O'Loughlin and Mick St John fix. Thanks to Living's marvelous new promo for Moonlight, we have got it! As you know, our show is about to debut in the UK. To hype it.... Living has created a commercial with delicious footage of Alex shot just for their ad. He looks so sensuous, strong and gorgeous! See for yourself with the advert video above.

Mick ~ "You want to know the truth about me? Well, the truth can be dangerous. The truth can get you killed. The truth can destroy us. Once you know what I am... there's no going back."

I don't wanna go back, Mick! ;> The production team did an excellent job of capturing the appeal of our Alex in just 38 seconds. The way it ends with his Vampire eyes staring out at us through the Living logo is fantastic. I can not imagine anyone who watches this on British television being able to resist watching Moonlight, can you?!? We need ads like this here too!

Per the information Kristy provided.... The promo was directed by Kristy Dawkins and Alun Constable. Alex was filmed in an abandoned mill in London's Docklands. The cool atmosphere was shot by Andy Boulter. Calum MacDirmaid provided the great graphics.

Moonlight premieres in the UK on the Living television network ~ Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 at 10:00 PM.

Photo of Sophia Myles from Dr Who TV Show

Isn't this a sumptuous photo of Sophia Myles? She is such a classic beauty. Our modern Internet reporter looks right at home in period dress. :) This image is from her guest starring role on the Dr. Who TV series as Madame de Pompadour ~ in "The Girl in the Fireplace" episode.

Sophia Myles as Intrepid Buzzwire Reporter Beth Turner

When the hero of the show has something to hide ~ like he is a Vampyre or Batman or Superman ~ the girl usually spends a lot of time being rescued. She also somehow doesn't see all the evidence of what the man of her dreams is trying to hide. Fortunately, Beth Turner is not that kinda girl. :) She has already rescued Mick on more than one occasion ~ including voluntarily feeding him her blood in the Fever episode (#1x04).

More important, by the second episode she knew that he was a Vampire! I am very impressed that the writers of Moonlight did not follow the typical, dated plot of the love interest being in the dark no matter what happens around them.

Sophia Myles portrayal of Beth is excellent! I enjoy her sense of comic timing, intelligence and the easy camaraderie with Alex O'Loughlin's Mick. One scene I especially enjoyed was how Beth was not intimidated at all by working with Josef, Rider and Mick to contact the teenage vampire (Mineo) in the Arrested Development episode (#1x05).

You have seen Sophia before in the movies Tristan + Isolde, Art School Confidential, From Hell, Thunderbirds and
(for all of us Vampyre fans) as Erika in Underworld & Underworld: Evolution. She was on TV in Doctor Who (which makes me think of my dear friend Zoe ~ Miss you!) As well as playing Lucy in a BBC (UK) production of Dracula. Drawn to vampires?!?!?! :)
