Jason Dohring to guest star on episode of CSI

Matt Mitovich fielded a question from a Moonlight fan. She asks about our lovely Vampire, Josef. Specifically, the post is about Jason Dohring's upcoming guest role on CSI. He will return to our tv screens on Thursday, January 21st, 2010, in an episode titled "Long Ball" (#10x12).

In honor of Jason playing a golfer on the show, I decided to use a photo of him participating in the BMW Charity Golf Tourny (May 2008). He's a great choice for the role, since he is pretty darn good at golf. As you may remember, he took 3rd place in the tournament.

The Big Tease: Scoop on ‘House,’ ‘NCIS,’ ‘Grey’s’ and More
by Matt Webb Mitovich

Question : I heard that CBS is bringing back former ‘Moonlight‘ vamp Jason Dohring in an upcoming episode of ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.’ Can you give us any scoop about his character? – Joanie

Answer : In the January 21 episode of ‘CSI,’ Logan Dohring guests as a newcomer to the pro golf scene who becomes a suspect in his father’s murder.

Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring on list of Hottest Male Vampires

Both of our Moonlight boys, Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring, are on the list of 20 Hottest Male Vampires. However, you may be surprised by where they placed....... Mick St John is #14 and Josef Kostan/Konstantin ranked higher at #8!

Other sexy, fang bearing men who made the cut include ~ Aidan Turner who plays Mitchell (Being Human), James Marsters as Spike (Buffy The Vampire Slayer & Angel), Alexander Skarsgard as Eric Northman (True Blood), Ian Somerhalder who is bad boy Damon Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries), no surprise seeing Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen on the list (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse), from the same films Kellen Lutz as Emmett Cullen, Brad Pitt as Louis de Pointe du Lac (Interview with a Vampire). Ethan Hawke, as Edward, is chosen even though the movie Daybreakers has yet to be released. I wanna see that too!

To check out the entire list, see where your favorite Vampire placed, who is number one and voice your opinion by following the link below.

The Vampire Craze: An In Depth Analysis Of The Hottest Male Vampires

Brace yourselves.

This may come as a complete shock.

Vampires are sort of, what's the word, in right now. I mean, if you haven't been living in Antarctica this past year, you may have noticed a very obvious trend. Remember way back in the day when every guy wanted to be Neo from The Matrix because he had that cool trench coat and could do sweet flips? Those days are long gone. Today it's all about fangs and an aversion to sunlight. Goth is back. Pale is the new tan.

And really, we shouldn't be all that surprised. Vampires are hot. They don't age. They look good in black. Some of them have inner-turmoil issues. Granted, they drink blood and that's kind of gross, but so are hot dogs and most of us love those. Who are we to judge?

Let's embrace this trend. Instead of rolling our eyes at the plethora of Twilight memorabilia lining the walls of every store, let's take a moment and analyze why there is so much Twilight memorabilia lining the walls of every store. And I'm not talking about dissecting the literary merits of the books (because what would I write about after the first paragraph?). Instead, I want to focus purely on sex appeal (you know, what's important). Costume and make-up designers work hard to create these gorgeous male bloodsuckers, and it's time to give them credit where credit is due. Here's a countdown of the greatest, most stunning, most please-bite-me-now creatures of the night ever. I'll tell you what works, what doesn't work, and why I want - no, need - to be alone in a dark alley with them.

14. Alex O'Loughlin as Mick St. John in Moonlight

You know, once in awhile it's nice to encounter a vampire who does something truly productive with his super strength, years of knowledge, and stunning good looks. Mick St. John is one such vampire. Instead of sitting around being all, "Oh man, it sucks that I love blood and have to stay young and beautiful forever," he made the choice to go out and seek redemption through helping the helpless, err, I know what you're thinking. This is sounding a lot like another vampire we all know and love who is a P.I. and helps the helpless for redemptive purposes. That other vampire aside, Mick's desire to do what's right, coupled with his ability to brood like nobody's business, makes him a very attractive undead American to watch.

8. Jason Dohring as Josef Kostan in Moonlight

He might not have been the title character in Moonlight , but Jason Dohring playing good vampire Josef Kostan made quite the impression on me. Perhaps (read: certainly) this stems from my longtime love of the tragically canceled television show Veronica Mars and, consequently, the character of Logan Echolls (played by Jason Dohring). However, despite this admittedly blinding obsession, I think my choice stands strong. In Moonlight , Dohring plays a 400-year old vampire with remarkable ease and depth. Strutting around in expensive suits, living in luxurious mansions, and taking his pick of any girl he wants, Josef is probably the envy of most guys. And who can blame them? In the show, he comes off as suave, smart, and wonderfully sexy, so much so that he has a gaggle of girls just lining up to give him their blood. And guys, I think we can all agree that there's something to be said about a vampire who gets his blood handed to him not through hypnotic vampire tricks or hunting, but through money and good looks.

Spoiler ~ my recap of Moonlight's Click episode (#1x14)

SPOILER ALERT! My recap of Moonlight's Click episode (#1x14)

I was hoping that Mick's temporary humanity would give him a new appreciation for his Vampire life & power. He seems to be embracing life period. Putting himself out there, as he says. Mick has a facebook page!?!?

Was it just me, or did Alex seem extra magnetic last tonight?

Mick's mantra of "you can't die" while enduring Tierney's driving made me bust out laughing.

After all this time of Mick and Beth's romance being longing glances and hinted conversation, I'm still getting used to the openly dating thing.

Tension in those stares between ADA Talbot & Mick. Alpha males guarding their territory.

More Josef and Mick scenes please! Love the banter between our boys.... especially the scene when Mick goes to Josef's office and teasingly called him dad. "Step-sire" Too funny!

Not surprised that our adorable Josef dated Jean Harlow and apparently Garbo.

We were correct in our spoiler speculation that "Ann Booker" was the writer's code for Beth.

Speaking of the spoilers...... the scene where Mick & Beth run into each other on the Queen Mary was changed. The dialogue of "we had something once but it's over.... it's complicated" became "I think we're dating.... it's complicated." Beth's nod to meet outside was gone, etc.

As I wrote before when I posted a spoiler video for Click, the debate that has been churning over Mick's line in the pilot episode, "60 years is a long time to deny yourself the touch of another" is answered. Mick makes it very clear to Beth ( and us ) that he has not had sex with a human since becoming a Vampire... and that he has slept with a vamp.... vamps?

Mick leaning in for a kiss was soooo sexy, even tho it was interrupted.

Tierney didn't last very long.

Poor Mick ~ having someone murdered on his watch :(

A sleep over.... but not quite how Mick & Beth pictured her spending the night at his place.

Moonlight is about vamps who walk among us. We saw that in action with the too little tabloid photographers. Giggled when Mick said "The camera... lost boy!" A fave film of mine, and Alex too.

The actor playing Dean Foster did a great job of making him a scummy paparazzi for us to hate.

When he caught the killer, Mick had to control himself. He was on the verge of going Vampire on that guy. If I say that I really wanted Mick to vamp out, does that make me a bad person? ;>

I've always wondered how Mick was able to stay in LA this entire time without being discovered. When Beth asks what would happen to a vamp if outed, you see her heart sinking as Mick says it would require moving, changing identities & so on.

Of course, I knew Beth would go to Josef when Dean tried to blackmail her with his Mick photos & threatened to further investigate. And.... we all knew that Josef would take care of the problem! One of the reasons that I love him. Beth was well aware of what would happen if she went to Josef, but she stepped up to protect Mick.

Now, Josef & Beth have a shared secret that they are keeping from Mick.

Continuing the protection by quitting her BuzzWire job. She wouldn't have stayed there anyway with the new editor's trashy, unethical approach to journalism. Not that you can call what he does journalism.

Mick ~ "I suppose we're all Vampires in one form or another."

Totally not surprised that Talbot is investigating Mick.

Ooooooo..... before I forget.... Click on the photograph above of the delicious Alex O'Loughlin for a larger version of the image.

SPOILER Video ~ Josef turning Mick scene from Fated to Pretend (episode #1x13)

SPOILER ALERT!

This video shows the scene of Josef Kostan turning Mick St John back into a Vampire in Moonlight's Fated to Pretend episode (#1x13). If you haven't seen the episode & don't want to be spoiled, do not watch this video!

Even after watching this scene over & over, I still get chills. It is emotional, sensual & unforgettable. Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring are simply stunning. Do you realize this scene is only about 2 minutes long? They made the most of every second. Mick calling Josef "brother." We see what a powerful friendship they share. Alex allows that single tear to roll down his cheek. Jason shows the anxiety Josef feels in those first moments of waiting for Mick to accept his blood. You know he was thinking of his tragic attempt at turning Sleeping Beauty. Jason said the music was incredible in this scene, & he is so right. It is also an erotic scene. Hot! How did they pack so much into that small amount of time!?

I could write on & on, so I must restrain myself.

Jason Dohring and Shannyn Sossamon move on to HBO

Speaking of new projects for our Moonlight cast..... Josef and Coraline have been hired to work on HBO, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

HBO populates its comedy pilots
Dohring, Burton, Sossamon and, Mescudi join casts
By Kimberly Nordyke

HBO is firming up the casts of its comedy pilots "Washingtonienne" and "How to Make It in America," adding Jason Dohring and Kate Burton to the former and Shannyn Sossamon and Scott Mescudi to the latter.

"Washingtonienne," based on Jessica Cutler's book, revolves around the professional and personal lives of three smart, sophisticated 28-year-old girls working on Capitol Hill.

Dohring will play Spencer, a senior legislative assistant for the same senator for whom Jackie (Rachel Taylor) works. Burton will play Joy, the senator's put-upon personal assistant.

Dohring ("Veronica Mars") is repped by Innovative Artists and manager Joel Stevens. Burton ("What Just Happened?") is repped by Gersh Agency and Principal Entertainment.

"America" centers on two enterprising downtown twentysomethings (Bryan Greenburg, Victor Rasuk) who hustle their way through New York determined to achieve the American Dream.

Sossamon will play Gingy, a gallery owner who is a close friend of the duo. Mescudi will play Domingo. Sossamon is repped by Paradigm.

Fan Video ~ Josef Kostan ~ Who's Your Daddy?

My pal, Cinnamon, recommended this wonderful fan video of Jason Dohring as Josef Kostan. Cool Moonlight scenes are used..... such as..... Josef baring those fangs, fighting beside Mick, shirtless (Yea!) and the funny moment of Mick calling Josef "daddy." The music used is the song Who's Your Daddy by Shannon Lawson.

Vampires & Slayers new audio interview with Jason Dohring

The lovely Ed Gross, from Vampires & Slayers, has posted an audio interview he did with Jason Dohring.

Funny.... you can kinda hear Alex O'Loughlin's voice in the background cuz he is being interviewed at the same time by someone else.

Note : You must be a member of the site in order to listen to Jason Dohring's interview. If you don't mind, please let them know that I sent ya by putting my name ~ Kandyegirl (like you didn't know ~ ha!) ~ as the answer to "How did you find out about Vampires & Slayers?" Thanks :)

MOONLIGHT AUDIO INTERVIEW: JASON DOHRING

Having broken onto the scene and really captured people's attention as a part of Veronica Mars, actor Jason Dohring reached new cult TV heights with his role as vampire Josef Kostan, Mick St. John's best friend, on the late (and lamented) Moonlight. Earlier this year, V&S Editor Edward Gross had the opportunity to speak to Jason at the New York Comic-Con, this interview taking place prior to the show's last four episodes airing following the Writer's Strike. One note about the audio quality of this interview: he and Alex O'Loughlin were sitting next to each other, participating in separate interviews, so the "noise" level gets high at certain moments.

BuddyTV ~ Catching up with Moonlight's cast

Valerie, from BuddyTV, has written an article about what Alex O'Loughlin, Sophia Myles and Jason Dohring have been doing since Moonlight's cancelation.

Note : The piece mentions Sophia working on a film called Buddha's Little Finger. However, I have heard from several sources that she is no longer involved with this movie project.

CBS Adopts 'Moonlight' Actor, Cast Members Pursue Other Projects
by Valerie Anne del Castillo

While some have already packed their bags and tidied up their camp sites following the campaign to bring Moonlight back to CBS, quite a number of fans are still clamoring for the return of the much-loved series which starred Alex O’Loughlin and Sophia Myles. The series, which only survived a season with a little under an average of 7.5 million viewers, was cut by CBS earlier this year because the network claimed that the ratings weren’t sufficient enough for a renewal. Moreover, CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler admitted that unlike Jericho, the resurrected series with a passionate fanbase, Moonlight’s fans tend to support the actor behind it rather than the series itself.

"The response to Moonlight was actually more actor-centric, so I think it certainly measures our decision on the show," Tassler told reporters at the TCA last month.

Apparently CBS saw the potential in the Australian actor and has signed him on for a one-year deal (which includes CBS’ sister studios CBS Paramount and ABC Studios) which will have him playing the central character in the new series currently being developed by producer Mark Gordon, whose credits include Grey’s Anatomy, Army Wives and Criminal Minds. Moreover, the deal will also provide O’Loughlin with a few movie projects with CBS Films.

O’Loughlin will soon be appearing in the feature film Whiteout, while his Moonlight co-star Sophia Myles appeared in the recently released Outlander, in which she played Viking warrior princess Freya, who battles extraterrestrials. The film premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival. Currently, Myles is working on the film Buddha’s Little Finger, which is set to be released next year.

As for Moonlight co-star Jason Dohring, who played Mick St. John’s 400-year-old best buddy, he says that he is currently in the process of landing other acting projects.

"More recently since I’ve been done with Moonlight, I’ve sorted some stuff out in my career, just personally about where I want to go," Jason Dohring said in an interview with the Review Times last month. "I think that I worked out a couple things for myself, kind of what I want to create in the world with being a celebrity."

He adds that he would like to try taking the lead in the next project that comes his way. He explains, "It was like all of a sudden I realized I could do it and I was like excited to try to do that, be a leading man. And I saw the amount of good that you can do, that you can use that platform to effect change in the world and that was exciting to me."

TV Squad ~ Recently canceled shows I mourn

Debra, from TV Squad's website, has written an article detailing television shows that she misses since they were canceled. Moonlight is at the top of the list.

Note : She misspelled Alex O'Loughlin (as O'Laughlin) and Josef (as Joseph). I corrected the typos in the piece below.

Recently canceled shows I mourn
by Debra McDuffee

There will always be Buffy, Angel, Quantum Leap and Magnum, P.I. on my "Oh Man I Want New Episodes of These Shows" list, but what about the more recently canceled shows of the past few years? Are there any worth mourning?

Maybe not in the same way I mourn my culty loves and classic '80s shows, but there are a few worth mentioning....

Moonlight

Yep, I know, I am one of Those People -- a fan of Moonlight. Though I agree it was weak when it returned after the writer's strike, there were lots of things to love about this show: the vampire lore, the episodic mysteries, the way they could have taken the love story (had they not muffed it up in the last four episodes), the actors (Jason Dohring and Alex O'Loughlin; not Sophia Myles). I can't believe that I won't find out more of the back story with Josef's family and Coraline.

To read the rest of Debra's list....

The sexiest Vampires in pop culture

All the new Vampyre projects continue to grab the media's attention. The Montreal Gazette has been inspired to rate their choices for the sexiest Vampires. Not surprisingly, our Moonlight boys Mick St John ( Alex O'Loughlin ) and Josef Kostan ( Jason Dohring ) are on the list!

Being a vamp girl for as long as I can remember, I have my own favorites. Lemme just tell ya, Mick and Josef are at the top for me.... right next to Louis ( who has been #1 for years ) from Anne Rice's Interview With The Vampire. I know that most people are in love with Lestat. While I adore him too, Louis is my vamp. Not just because he was played by Brad Pitt in the film. *grin* I'm sure a lot of it has to do with him being a Louisiana plantation/New Orleans character. Spike ( James Marsters ) from Buffy the Vampire Slayer also ranks high for me. I always liked him way better than Angel. As for the ladies, Miriam ( Catherine Deneuve ) from The Hunger, Coraline ( Shannyn Sossamon ) and Lola ( Holly Valance ) from Moonlight. Yes.... I like the "bad" girls.

Who is on your list?

Vamping it up: The sexiest vampires in pop culture
Canada : The Montreal Gazette
by Sheri Levine, Amy Husser and Chris Lackner, Canwest News Service

With Stephenie Meyer's vampire romance Breaking Dawn hitting bookshelves, and a film based on her book Twilight slated for a December release, we look at the sexiest vampires in pop culture history - from Bram Stoker's Dracula and Anne Rice's Lestat to Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Bella Swan, the teen heroine from Meyer's series, is far from the first character to have her heart flutter over a partner who lacks a heartbeat:

The Vamp: Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin) and Josef Kostan (Jason Dohring), Moonlight (TV series, 2007-08)

Vampilicious qualities: When Mick St. John was bitten by his vampiric bride, Coraline, years ago, he was both disgusted and heartbroken. Instead of choosing to simply feed off of human beings, St. John utilizes his now acute vampire senses to help the living by becoming a private investigator. His closest friend and fellow vampire, Josef, helps him find alternate feeding sources along the way, and St. John eventually falls in love with a mortal named Beth - a beautiful, ambitious reporter who has been covering a string of unusual murders. Moonlight's vampires have sex appeal because the show portrays them as modern day vamps caught between two worlds.

Fang factor: 3 out of 5

Moonlight wins Axed Before Its Time category in TV.com awards

In the 2008 TV.com awards, Moonlight won first place in the Axed Before Its Time category. Great job everyone! You made sure our show won :) Journeyman placed second. Las Vegas took third. New Amsterdam was in the fourth & final spot.

Unfortunately, Sophia Myles did not win the Best Fake American Accent award. She came in 2nd place to the winner Battlestar Galactica's Jamie St. John Bamber Griffith. House's Hugh Laurie is 3rd. Ed Westwick, from Gossip Girl, is 4th.

I decided to use one of my fave photos with this post. The gang posed for it when they attended the Moonlight event at the Paley Center. Click on the image above for a larger version of the picture.

Video ~ Behind the scenes interview with Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring

Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring interview ~ Behind the scenes ~ Part 1

Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring interview ~ Behind the scenes ~ Part 2

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!

We've all seen different clips of this interview with Alex O'Loughlin and Jason Dohring on the studio lot. Thanks to Moonlitmuse, in these videos you will see the extended version of the chat. Behind the scenes of Moonlight AND behind the scenes of the interview shoot too. The action is stopped at the beginning to allow for the camera to move in front of Jason and the hostess. A producer can be heard through-out feeding questions to the chick interviewing our boys. Alex asks the question I had too........ why doesn't the producer just ask the questions & ditch the hostess?!? Leave it to him to come out & ask. He is so candid and funny.

Alex & Jason are good natured and have an easy going rapport. It is obvious that they feel comfortable with each other. Love the banter! Alex did this interview with only about 2 hours of sleep. I don't know about you, but I would have been tired and cranky. *grin*

Our boys look soooooooo handsome! And... we get to enjoy Alex's delicious Australian accent :)

I grinned my way through this interview. Since they are such good looking guys, the hostess asks Jason & Alex how they keep the women away, Alex replies "Jason touches me like this." I almost fell over laughing at that!

There is lots of talk about Alex being on the Moonlight billboards. Jason says he had Alex take a photo of himself naked in front of the one on Sunset Blvd. "It's really artistic." Uh.... how do I get that photo? hehehehe....

"I don't touch everyone's testicles."

Jason & Alex answer how they differ in real life from their characters Josef Kostan & Mick St John.

We "learnt" that badass is one of Alex's favorite sayings. Leave it to us Americans to come up with fun ways to cuss & express ourselves.

Jason did a fab job when he took over and questioned Alex. "How disappointed were you when you saw that I wasn't on the billboard?"

Jason Dohring Interview ~ Polaris 22 Convention ~ Part 3

Thanks to Rijane99, we get to enjoy these videos of Jason Dohring being interviewed during a press conference at the recent Polaris 22 Convention ( in Toronto, Canada ). While at the event, he discussed Moonlight, Veronica Mars, Cold Case, hopes for his career, etc.

A few tidbits ~

Alex O'Loughlin let Jason know that Moonlight had been canceled ( via voicemail ).

Jason was asked if he is doing extras for the Moonlight dvd :

"For the Moonlight one? Yea, I hope so because I enjoy those a lot. I think the fans do because they've seen the show. You know what I mean? So, it's like you gotta give them something else... I haven't heard anything about the extras for it. I would imagine they're gonna do a dvd release... They'd be smart enough to."

When asked if he knows what the future holds for Moonlight, "I've heard rumors... but so far they've not told us anything." Jason says most of our cast members are out auditioning. He also mentioned that Alex told him about going to audition for an A-list movie role.

How did you enjoy your time on Moonlight?

"I liked it. I think we started to get into it more toward the end where we sorta found our own. I sorta started to get I think what they wanted from my character, which was... I always tried to make things like brooding & whatever... and it wasn't right for that show because Mick was kinda that character and I was like trying to do that. I think that toward the end I sort of... I realized what they wanted & stuff like that. I was able to do certain episodes with that and I felt great about those because that's what it needed. So, I was able to deliver something effective for the show."

Do you look for something specifically in a tv role? Is there a role you prefer to have?

"Yea. I think even more recently since I've been done with Moonlight... I kinda just sorted some stuff out with my career, just for myself personally. Kinda, what I wanna do & the direction I wanna go. I think that I'll probably wind up doing some leading type stuff. Then, I might go back to some character stuff , or do a lead that's a character."

"I don't wanna work just to work particularly anymore... I'd rather find something that I'm happy about."

Did you have a backstory in mind for Josef?

"I did as we came along with the story... cuz you know, you get one story so it's not like... I guess I didn't want to create a million things and then, you know, the next script is like 'yea he's this'... But, like as the stories would come up you'd be like, 'Hmm that's interesting.' I guess like at one point I imagined him being like Mick. You know what I mean? In that, he's not sarcastic. He's a good guy. Then, that changed at some point. He lost his integrity. And then that's kinda why he admires Mick and can look up to him because that is something he had and lost. He wasn't strong enough to hold onto it."
