CW's Dawn Ostroff credits fan letters & emails with influencing decision to air Moonlight

TV Guide interviewed Dawn Ostroff (entertainment chief of the CW Network) regarding the channel's plan to air Moonlight after The Vampire Diaries. She specifically says all the email messages and letters loyal fans of the show continue to send influenced their decision! *cheer* Keep up the good work! Who knows what else Moonlight fans will accomplish. =)

In this article, Alex is also quoted about enjoying the "aggressive, animalistic side of the show."

The CW Sinks Its Teeth Into Moonlight
by Ileane Rudolph

Alex O'Loughlin fans got a bloody good summer treat when the CW acquired all 16 episodes of Moonlight, the Aussie actor's short-lived but beloved vampire detective show. "We get letters and e-mails about Moonlight all the time," says CW entertainment chief Dawn Ostroff. "And so we thought it would be interesting if we aired it following The Vampire Diaries."

Moonlight (Thursdays at 9/8c, The CW) follows the perpetually 30-year-old private investigator Mick St. John (O'Loughlin), his hedonistic buddy Josef (Jason Dohring) and Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), a young reporter whose chemistry with Mick threatens her relationship with her human fiancé. Around to cause trouble: the seductive Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon), who turned Mick on their wedding night six decades earlier.

On tonight's episode, as Mick and Beth track down a dangerous newly formed blood sucker, the potential couple have the conversation. Mick offers the snoopy journalist a primer on all things vampire. But will he reveal his own creepily romantic turning story? And will Beth bolt?

"I love the aggressive, animalistic side of the show," says O'Loughlin, who will star in CBS' buzzworthy remake of Hawaii Five-O in the fall. "I love the genre, the action and the masculinity of the character." The many passionate female fans were "awesome," he says, "but I want my pals to think it's cool." Cool, yeah, and very, very hot.

Video ~ Alex O'Loughlin wonders if vamp craze could have saved Moonlight

In an interview with MTV News, Alex O'Loughlin is asked if he feels Moonlight's fate would have been different had it debuted during the current Vampire frenzy. He even jokes that sometimes he sees his own moves when he watches other vamp shows & movies.

'Moonlight' Star Alex O'Loughlin Wonders If 'Twilight' Could Have Helped Save His Vampire Series
by Terri Schwartz

Just when you thought you didn't have enough vampire-related pop culture floating around this summer — what with "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" opening on June 30, the third season of "True Blood" and ABC's new "The Gates" — the CW made an announcement that excited some and shocked other when they decided to air reruns of CBS's short-lived "Moonlight" after summer reruns of "The Vampire Diaries."

The announcement came only a few weeks after we sat down to talk with "Moonlight's" leading man, Alex O'Loughlin, to chat about his romcom "The Back-Up Plan." What with vampires being all the craze nowadays, we figured we would talk to him about his own pre-"Twilight" fanged drama, not knowing how timely the conversation would soon become.

"It's a really cool genre," Alex told us about being a part of a vampire show. "I loved the Anne Rice books when I was younger. I sort of had an idea of the character before I even read the script, I had my own vampire in my head and when I read the 'Moonlight' pilot, my character in that genre, I was like, dude, I know you. I knew how I was going to do it."

Despite a fan base that really supported the show, "Moonlight" was canceled by CBS after its fourth episode back in 2007 and only lasted one season. The show was much more traditional than "Twilight," meaning its vampires were susceptible to sun and silver and slept in coffins. While other shows like "True Blood" and "The Vampire Diaries" have been able to make that classic formula work, its arguably because "The Twilight Saga" revitalized the genre.

"The vampire sort of flavor comes in and out of the entertainment world every so many years. We sort of felt like we were the beginning of this new phase," said Alex when we asked him if, had "Moonlight" debuted after "Twilight" got big, the show would have lasted longer. "I don't know what those answers are, but I loved 'Moonlight.' I put a lot into it and I got a love of amazing fans who still write to me and still rewatch [the show] — we only did a year, you know but they were very invested in the characters and the story. I just don't know, it's speculative. But I thought it was a good show!"

With our culture so infused with vamps, its hard for their not to be some overlap in style and substance, and Alex joked that sometimes he feels that actors or writers have borrowed from him and "Moonlight." "I have vampires in my head all the time," he said with a laugh. "I'm like, 'Hey, I did that before you! That's my move!

Of all the vampire shows and films out now, Alex shared that "True Blood" is his favorite. "It's more than a vampire show," he said. "I like what Alan Ball has done for the show and all of the characters and stuff. The setting is great." And, though Alex's next project is working on the very unsupernatural remake of "Hawaii Five-O," we're crossing our fingers he could potentially make a fanged cameo on one of our favorite vampire shows some day soon.

The CW to rebroadcast Moonlight, paired with The Vampire Diaries

Yes, my friends, the rumors are true ~ The CW will be rerunning Moonlight Season One this summer, following repeats of The Vampire Diaries. It begins airing on Thursday, June 3rd, 2010 at 8:00 PM Central Time / 9:00 PM Eastern Time

MOONLIGHT TO SHINE ON THE CW
by CW News

Acclaimed Vampire Series starring Alex O’Loughlin Joins “The Vampire Diaries” On Thursday Nights Beginning June 3

Summer just got a lot scarier on The CW. The network will air the acclaimed drama MOONLIGHT on Thursday nights beginning June 3. MOONLIGHT will air from 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET, following encore episodes of the first season of the The CW’s hit drama, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.

On MOONLIGHT, Mick St. John (Alex O’Loughlin) is a captivating, charming and immortal private investigator from Los Angeles, who defies the traditional blood-sucking norms of his vampire tendencies by using his wit and powerful supernatural abilities to help the living. In a life-altering twist of fate, Mick was “bitten” 60 years ago by his new bride, the seductive Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon). Forever 30 years of age, Mick’s as handsome and charismatic as the day he was “turned,” and he eschews others of his kind who view humans only as a source of nourishment. With only a handful of like-minded confidantes for company, including the eternally young, wealthy and mischievous Josef (Jason Dohring), a hedge fund trader who relishes his uniqueness, Mick fills his infinite days protecting the living. One night years ago, a single act of kindness changed Mick when he saved a young girl’s life, making him want to be a better vampire. Now their paths cross again and Mick develops a distinctive bond with Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), who has grown into a beautiful, ambitious internet investigative reporter. Reconnecting with her unleashes feelings Mick knows he can’t pursue without ex posing that part of him that would make him a monster in Beth’s eyes. As Mick lives between two realities, fighting his adversaries among the undead and falling in love, he discovers the mysteries and pleasures that a valuable life has to offer.

Alex O'Loughlin's Hawaii Five-O reboot officially picked up by CBS

Not surprisingly, CBS has given the green light to Alex O'Loughin's new tv show. As you know, it is the remake of Hawaii Five-O. Many have speculated about whether or not Alex will be trying to step into Jack Lord's shoes, or create a totally different character. That is mentioned in this great article by Mari-Ela David.

Alex's program will air on Monday nights at 9:00 PM Central Time / 10:00 PM Eastern Time.

CBS picks up new Hawaii Five-O series
By Mari-Ela David
Hawaii News Now

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - 'Hawaii Five-O', take two! In showbiz slang, the Five-O pilot has been picked up.

That means the episode filmed here in March will be on CBS in prime time this fall.

That could also mean big bucks for Hawaii's production industry and tourism.

At Big City Diner at Ward on some of their TV screens, there were re-runs of the original 'Hawaii Five-O' playing. Folks there said they're excited about the remake although some say they're a little skeptical.

"It won't be the same, but maybe it'll be better, we'll see. I'll check it out," said Sandra Blazel, a fan who says she used to watch the show whenever she felt homesick while off to college on the mainland.

"I was in the Marines and it was a hot show and it's just great to have it back. I hope it's as good as it was," said Gary Mynatt, a fan.

Alex O'Loughlin will take over Jack Lord's shoes, and 'Lost' celebrity Daniel Dae Kim will star as Chin Ho Kelly. Jean Smart, famous for playing Charlene in the sitcom "Designing Women" has been cast as Hawaii's governor.

This past March, the new 'Hawaii Five-O' shot pilot episodes all over Oahu, including Chinatown, Downtown Honolulu, and inside the post office on Richards Street.

"My knee jerk reaction is fantastic! Fantastic for Hawaii! Because this gives us an opportunity to be in the mainstream of television," said Al Harrington, who played Detective Ben Kokua in the original Five-O, which aired on CBS from 1968 to 1980, making it one of the longest running crime shows on American TV.

Harrington says the drama exposed Hawaii to the world.

"People used to think that Pearl Harbor was some place in the Caribbean. There was a lot of misconceptions," he said.

Harrington hopes the remake will continue to portray Hawaii as it really is.

"I just wish them the very best. And I hope that if they need an old actor, come see Al Harrington," he said chuckling.

The challenge is how to cater the show to this generation without compromising the integrity of the classic Five-O.

Rumor has it that O'Loughlin will actually play Steve McGarrett's son.

"Perhaps you've heard it's not really a new Jack Lord character but part of that family and you might be right about that but I think we have to wait and see when the up fronts come out on Wednesday," said Georja Skinner from the Hawaii Film Office.

Skinner says pre-production starts in mid-June, and shooting starts mid-July.

Exact numbers aren't in yet but the state says the new version of 'Hawaii Five-O' could bring in more than a million dollars per year to Hawaii's economy. That's based on how much revenue the series 'Lost' raked in.

Honolulu mayor Mufi Hannemann applauded the decision to green light the series.

"The City and County of Honolulu pulled out all the stops to assist with the making of the new pilot episode because a network television series translates into significant economic development for Hawaii. We look forward to supporting the production as it goes forward into series" said Hannemann in a statement.

Storm =(

Hi all ~

The sky went dark this afternoon just as a wrathful hail storm materialized out of no where. It mercilessly bashed my sweet, lil car. Busting out the front and rear windshields, as well as creating deep dents every where. The back part of my car is mostly glass.... completely gone! The storm also bashed me. I have bruises and angry, red welts developing all over my body from rushing out in it. Tree branches are littering the yard. I'll know more about the damage to my car, home, etc when the fury abates.

I have already heard from so many of you who learned that a vicious storm had hit Oklahoma City. Thank you for the amazing care and concern! You are the best!

Moonlight mentioned in NPR article about Vampires

Margot Adler has written a wonderful article, for NPR, about the popularity of Vampires. She specifically quotes Moonlight to illustrate one reason she believes there is such a craze for vamps at the moment! The lines (highlighted in yellow) are taken from the Dr. Feelgood episode (#1x03).

I will quote a few key things here for you. To read the entire article, just follow the link below. Please, share with us your thoughts on the recent Vampyre frenzy!

For Love Of Do-Good Vampires: A Bloody Book List
by Margot Adler

We've been inundated with vampires this past decade, and we don't simply mean bloodsuckers like Bernie Madoff.

In the 1980s, it's true, there was a similar surge of interest in vampires, with Whitley Strieber's The Hunger and the wildly popular novels of Anne Rice. But the past few years have seen a new crop of intriguingly different vampires — seemingly conflicted souls, from Bill Compton in HBO's True Blood to Stefan in the CW's television series The Vampire Diaries and, of course, Edward Cullen in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight books.

Even here at NPR, if you look at the archives, there have been at least 20 recent stories about vampires. What is it about our society now — the zeitgeist, the spirit of the times — that's making vampires so popular? And why are most of the vampires we are seeing struggling to be moral?

A confession: In the past nine months, I've read 75 vampire novels. I'll get to why later, but let's first step back in history.

Vampires have been a constant in folklore around the world, but our modern notion of the vampire came out of a particular cultural moment in 1816. Mary Shelley, Lord Byron and John Polidori came together in a chalet in Switzerland to do a kind of literary exercise. Out of that retreat came Shelley's novel Frankenstein and Polidori's Vampyre, the first vampire story in the English language. And there was a reason, rooted in immense changes that were under way in the world of ideas.

"A shocking thing was occurring," says Strieber, the author of two other vampire novels in addition to The Hunger. "Science was beginning to seem to be able to challenge the very nature of life itself."

Since then, vampires have been used again and again as a way to speak of our fears and concerns.

"It's almost this perfect vessel," says Eric Nuzum, an NPR colleague and the author of The Dead Travel Fast: Stalking Vampires from Nosferatu to Count Chocula. "If you want to understand any moment in time, or any cultural moment, just look at their vampires."

A vampire's near-immortality is probably why I ended up reading 75 vampire novels. I'd been caring for a seriously ill loved one, and as a result, I had been spending a lot of time thinking deeply about issues of mortality. I had also occasionally fantasized what it would be like not to have to think about that.

But what I started noticing as I read all these novels and looked at all the recent television shows featuring vampires is that their near-immortality isn't the most interesting thing about them. Almost all of these current vampires are struggling to be moral. It's conventional to talk about vampires as sexual, with their hypnotic powers and their intimate penetrations and their blood-drinking and so forth. But most of these modern vampires are not talking as much about sex as they are about power.

Take the CBS show Moonlight, which aired for only one season in 2007-2008. Mick St. John is a private investigator who is also a vampire. In one scene, he's trying to reason with a violent rogue vampire by telling him, "We have rules."

The rogue responds, "There are no rules: I'm top of the food chain."

"This is the central question of so many vampire novels and films, " says Amy Smith, a professor of English at the University of the Pacific. "If you had power over people, how would you use it? 'We can do what we want' vs. 'We were human, how can you treat humans as if they were cattle?' "

People keep going back to these stories because they illustrate a tension that exists in real life, Smith says.

Breaking News ~ Alex O'loughlin will star in Hawaii Five-O remake

Entertainment Weekly reporter, Michael Ausiello, has announced that Alex O'Loughlin accepted CBS' offer to star in their remake of Hawaii Five-O! What do you think, my friends? Will you be watching?

Pilot Intel: O’Loughlin booked for 'Hawaii Five-0'
EW - by Michael Ausiello

They booked him!

CBS has successfully persuaded Alex O’Loughlin to headline its in-the-works remake of Hawaii Five-0, sources confirm.

O’Loughlin will play Det. Steve McGarrett, the role originated by Jack Lord.

This marks CBS’ third partnership with the in-demand actor. Their previous efforts, Moonlight and Three Rivers, both ended after one season.

Earlier this week, Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim was tapped to join the Hawaii cast in the role of state police officer Chin Ho Kelly.

The update is being shepherded by Fringe writer-producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, as well as CSI: NY e.p. Peter Lenkov.

Thoughts? Will the third time be the charm for CBS and O’Loughlin?

Is the Hawaii Five-O remake next for Alex O'Loughlin?

Since CBS canceled Alex O'Loughlin's latest show, Three Rivers, there has been much speculation about what his next project will be. Hopes abound that Moonlight will rise again, either on television or movie screens. We knew that CBS did not want to let him go. Today, Michael Ausiello (of Entertainment Weekly) is reporting that the network is trying to interest Alex in a remake of Hawaii Five-O. Please, discuss and share your opinion by leaving comments on Michael's post &/or here.

CBS eyeing Alex O'Loughlin for 'Hawaii Five-O'
by Michael Ausiello

Will the third time be the charm for CBS and Alex O’Loughlin?

Undeterred by the back-to-back failures of Moonlight and Three Rivers, The Eye net is courting O’Loughlin to headline the freshly-greenlit remake of Hawaii Five-O, sources confirm.

“Talks are ongoing,” says the insider. “CBS really wants to do another series with him.”

The original Five-O — which starred Jack Lord as Det. Steve McGarrett — ran on CBS from 1968-1980. The update is being shepherded by Fringe writer-producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, as well as CSI: NY e.p. Peter Lenkov.

At press tour last week, CBS president Nina Tassler reiterated her strong desire to stay in business with O’Loughlin. “We love him,” she said, “and want him to stay around a long time.”

What do you think? Should CBS book O’Loughlin for Five-O? Or are you still holding out hope for a Moonlight resurrection? Sound off below!

Jason Dohring to guest star on episode of CSI

Matt Mitovich fielded a question from a Moonlight fan. She asks about our lovely Vampire, Josef. Specifically, the post is about Jason Dohring's upcoming guest role on CSI. He will return to our tv screens on Thursday, January 21st, 2010, in an episode titled "Long Ball" (#10x12).

In honor of Jason playing a golfer on the show, I decided to use a photo of him participating in the BMW Charity Golf Tourny (May 2008). He's a great choice for the role, since he is pretty darn good at golf. As you may remember, he took 3rd place in the tournament.

TV Guide ~ Sexiest TV and Movie Vampires

Since the latest Vampire flick, Daybreakers, premiered this weekend, TV Guide decided to release their list of "Sexiest TV & Movie Vampires." Of course, they included Moonlight's yummy Mick St John (Alex O'Loughlin) among the hot fanged ones! ;> Let me know what you think of their choices, &/or the Vampyres you can't believe didn't make the cut.

Uh, are they serious about Maximilian (Eddie Murphy) from Vampire in Brooklyn and Mark Kendall (Jim Carrey) in Once Bitten?!??!? Two really gorgeous
& deserving vamps could have used those wasted spots. I suspect the list makers were trying to be different by not selecting every Vampire who is normally automatically included ~ such as Brad Pitt's Louis, David Boreanaz's Angel, Alexander SkarsgĂĄrd's Eric, etc.

A few that made their list......... Spike (James Marsters) of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) from the Underworld film series, Blade (Wesley Snipes), the brothers (Damon & Stefan Salvatore ~ Ian Somehalder and Paul Wesley) from The Vampire Diaries, Count Dracula (Bela Lugosi), Santanico Pandemonium (Salma Hayek) in From Dusk Till Dawn, Count Dracula (Gary Oldman) Bram Stoker's Dracula and ~ I know you will be completely shocked by this pick ~ Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) in the Twilight series.

TV Guide
Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin), Moonlight

A modern, gentlemanly vampire, private investigator Mick refuses to let go of his humanity entirely. Unlike other vampires, he refuses to hunt women and children, and even drinks blood from the morgue. Oh, and he's just so dreamy!

CBS boss weighs in on Moonlight’s possible RESURRECTION

Uplifting news today, my friends! Matt Mitovich asked Nina Tassler about the possible return of Moonlight. She admits to discussing it with Joel Silver recently! Also, not surprisingly, Tassler says CBS wants to hang onto Alex O'Loughlin.

I find it funny that she makes the exact same point we've been screaming since our series was canceled........ Namely, CBS could have been in the forefront of the Vampire craze with an established show, amazing cast & writers, and a hugely popular leading man in Alex! Instead, they made the unbelievable decision to cancel Moonlight *sigh*

You have done such an excellent job of keeping Moonlight alive in the thoughts of entertainment reporters/bloggers, network exes, Silver Productions, Warner Bros, etc etc. Demonstrating how loyal and dedicated Moonlight fans are to our show! I am so proud of you :)

For those who want to join in sending postcards, letters and emails, I have posted the addresses for the WB, Silver Productions, et al in previous posts on my blog.

CBS Boss Weighs In On ‘Moonlight’s Possible Resurrection
by Matt Webb Mitovich

Will CBS jump on the bloodsucking bandwagon and bring ‘Moonlight‘ back to life?

Sources tell Fancast that one of the former vampire drama’s producers and a few original cast members have been approached by CBS and producer Warner Bros. TV about making another go of it.

And really, who could blame CBS for now second-guessing its decision to snuff the series two years ago, given the success of the ‘Twilight’ movies, HBO’s ‘True Blood‘ and now The CW’s ‘Vampire Diaries‘?

Fancast asked CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler about the latest buzz, and whether ‘Moonlight 2.0′ could serve as a means to keep the very popular Alex O’Loughlin on the network’s payroll.

“I just want to say one thing – who was out there first with vampires?” she at first responded. “Who was out there first?”

So…? Might Mick St. John resurface for another “bite”?

“['Moonlight' executive producer] Joel Silver and I were talking about it the other day – but we talk about a lot of things,’ Tassler told us. Any possible ‘Moonlight’ rebirth would be a ways down the line, however, seeing as “we’re about to pick up all of our [2010-11 season] pilots,” Tassler stressed.

One way or another, CBS is determined to find a new project for Alex O’Loughlin, whose ‘Three Rivers’ has been canceled, Tassler confirmed on Saturday.

“We love [Alex] and want him to stay around for a long time,” she said.

As for why the organ donation-themed medical drama failed to draw an adequate audience despite the Aussie actor’s ardent and vocal following, she offered, “‘Moonlight’ was a much more [O'Loughlin]-centric show, whereas ‘Three Rivers’ was more of an ensemble.” She then added, “Some shows find their legs earlier than others.”

Hello 2010!

I hope the New Year is treating you well so far! You have my best wishes for good health, tremendous joy, grand success and amazing adventures :) I, for one, am not sad to see 2009 take its leave. Perhaps, 2010 will be kinder.

Moonlight on list of best canceled shows by Film.com

Film.com has released their list of Best Canceled TV Shows of the Decade, which includes Moonlight!

The other televisions series on the list are Freaks and Geeks, Roswell, Firefly (another personal fave of mine), Arrested Development, Jericho & The Unit.

Gone Too Soon : Best Canceled TV Shows of the Decade
by Susan Young

Moonlight : Cloves of garlic were sent to CBS entertainment honchette Nina Tassler, blood drives were mounted across the United States, and DirectTV, the savior of Friday Night Lights, was pounded by a write-in campaign that pledged subscriptions if only the company would pick up the vampire series. Nothing worked. The fan-fueled campaigns couldn't make up for the low ratings and it was canceled in 2008. So instead of being a crime fighting vampire, CBS turned actor Alex O'Loughlin into a transplant doctor in Three Rivers. Too bad CBS didn't hang in for one more season, when they could have cashed in on the current vamp phenomenon that's turning the Twilight franchise into a money making machine.

CBS has canceled Three Rivers

Uh oh! CBS has canceled Three Rivers. Poor Alex! Unfortunately, he has been down this road before with our beloved Moonlight :(

CBS Pulls the Plug on Three Rivers
by Natalie Abrams

Once again, adoring fans must say farewell to
Alex O'Loughlin: His new medical drama, Three Rivers, has been canceled, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

Effective immediately, the network will air repeats of
Criminal Minds and NCIS: Los Angeles instead of the organ-donor drama.

Rivers will complete production on all 13 episodes from the show's original order, but no decisions have been made on whether they will air.

The cancelation news would be more of a blow to CBS if it hadn't had such a successful fall with NCIS: LA and
The Good Wife. Rivers has been flatlining in the ratings, drawing an average of 7.5 million viewers, compared to Wife and LA's 13.7 million and 17.5 million respective averages.

What are you going to miss more: Alex O'Loughlin or Three Rivers?

Their official synopsis for the show.....

Moonlight (2007)
Red-blooded and romantic cult favorite about vampire-detective Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin) and Web-tabloid reporter Beth Turner (Sophia Myles) solving strange murders in Los Angeles, where a community of the undead thrives just under the radar of the human population. Viewers late to the game take note: the series revamps the rulebook of traditional vampire mythology, with garlic, holy water and wooden stakes having no effect on their targets. Co-created by Ron Koslow, who developed the heart-fluttering Linda Hamilton-Ron Perlman television series Beauty and the Beast. With Jason Dohring and Shannyn Sossamon.

Next time, I will give you the contact information for Chiller.

Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring on list of Hottest Male Vampires

Both of our Moonlight boys, Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring, are on the list of 20 Hottest Male Vampires. However, you may be surprised by where they placed....... Mick St John is #14 and Josef Kostan/Konstantin ranked higher at #8!

Other sexy, fang bearing men who made the cut include ~ Aidan Turner who plays Mitchell (Being Human), James Marsters as Spike (Buffy The Vampire Slayer & Angel), Alexander Skarsgard as Eric Northman (True Blood), Ian Somerhalder who is bad boy Damon Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries), no surprise seeing Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen on the list (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse), from the same films Kellen Lutz as Emmett Cullen, Brad Pitt as Louis de Pointe du Lac (Interview with a Vampire). Ethan Hawke, as Edward, is chosen even though the movie Daybreakers has yet to be released. I wanna see that too!

To check out the entire list, see where your favorite Vampire placed, who is number one and voice your opinion by following the link below.

The Vampire Craze: An In Depth Analysis Of The Hottest Male Vampires

Brace yourselves.

This may come as a complete shock.

Vampires are sort of, what's the word, in right now. I mean, if you haven't been living in Antarctica this past year, you may have noticed a very obvious trend. Remember way back in the day when every guy wanted to be Neo from The Matrix because he had that cool trench coat and could do sweet flips? Those days are long gone. Today it's all about fangs and an aversion to sunlight. Goth is back. Pale is the new tan.

And really, we shouldn't be all that surprised. Vampires are hot. They don't age. They look good in black. Some of them have inner-turmoil issues. Granted, they drink blood and that's kind of gross, but so are hot dogs and most of us love those. Who are we to judge?

Let's embrace this trend. Instead of rolling our eyes at the plethora of Twilight memorabilia lining the walls of every store, let's take a moment and analyze why there is so much Twilight memorabilia lining the walls of every store. And I'm not talking about dissecting the literary merits of the books (because what would I write about after the first paragraph?). Instead, I want to focus purely on sex appeal (you know, what's important). Costume and make-up designers work hard to create these gorgeous male bloodsuckers, and it's time to give them credit where credit is due. Here's a countdown of the greatest, most stunning, most please-bite-me-now creatures of the night ever. I'll tell you what works, what doesn't work, and why I want - no, need - to be alone in a dark alley with them.

14. Alex O'Loughlin as Mick St. John in Moonlight

You know, once in awhile it's nice to encounter a vampire who does something truly productive with his super strength, years of knowledge, and stunning good looks. Mick St. John is one such vampire. Instead of sitting around being all, "Oh man, it sucks that I love blood and have to stay young and beautiful forever," he made the choice to go out and seek redemption through helping the helpless, err, I know what you're thinking. This is sounding a lot like another vampire we all know and love who is a P.I. and helps the helpless for redemptive purposes. That other vampire aside, Mick's desire to do what's right, coupled with his ability to brood like nobody's business, makes him a very attractive undead American to watch.

8. Jason Dohring as Josef Kostan in Moonlight

He might not have been the title character in Moonlight , but Jason Dohring playing good vampire Josef Kostan made quite the impression on me. Perhaps (read: certainly) this stems from my longtime love of the tragically canceled television show Veronica Mars and, consequently, the character of Logan Echolls (played by Jason Dohring). However, despite this admittedly blinding obsession, I think my choice stands strong. In Moonlight , Dohring plays a 400-year old vampire with remarkable ease and depth. Strutting around in expensive suits, living in luxurious mansions, and taking his pick of any girl he wants, Josef is probably the envy of most guys. And who can blame them? In the show, he comes off as suave, smart, and wonderfully sexy, so much so that he has a gaggle of girls just lining up to give him their blood. And guys, I think we can all agree that there's something to be said about a vampire who gets his blood handed to him not through hypnotic vampire tricks or hunting, but through money and good looks.
