Update message from Alex O'Loughlin

Hey all....... Alex O'Loughlin has sent a sweet new message to update all his fans :)

Its been a while

Hi everybody.

Well it certainly has been a minute since I last wrote you all, but I am glad to say that it's because I literally have not stopped working since we last spoke. I finished The Backup Plan a few days ago and flew straight back to LA to start production on Three Rivers, which is where I am now.

The film experence was wonderful! We were very lucky to have the team of producers & the director that we had and I would work with them all again tomorrow! It was nothing but positive.

Our director and leader, Alan Poul was as good as you can get. Very intelligent, funny, sensative to everyone's needs and a true visionary. I think we might just have a decent little film on our hands! ;)

Many of you have sent me messages full of questions about Jennifer and how I found working with her, and I appreciate your enthusiasm.

Jennifer is a very private person and I respect that, so what I will tell you is that she is all the good things you could possibly imagine her to be. Funny, smart, generous, always prepared, very professional, always punctual... and of course, beautiful.

Thank you all so much for the constant support. It can be difficult to reach you all personally and individually, but none of your love and hard work ever goes unnoticed or unappreciated. It is something in my life that helps me find the energy I don't always think I have, to get through another long work day and stay inspired. Without you all it would be kind of pointless so, again, thank you.

All my love
Alex O'Loughlin x

Does CBS realize canceling Moonlight was a mistake?

Today, Parade Magazine featured an inquiry sent in by a Moonlight fan asking if CBS knows what a blunder they made in canceling our show. We all knew the reasoning behind the network signing Alex O'Loughlin to a talent holding deal so quickly.

Personality Parade Cancelled TV Series

Question ~ Does CBS realize that canceling its vampire series Moonlight with Alex O’Loughlin was a mistake?— Sandy Bleiss, Bartlett, Tenn.

Answer ~ Yes. Our sources tell us that the outcry was so great that CBS took steps to bring O’Loughlin back into the fold. CBS Films cast him opposite Jennifer Lopez in The Back-Up Plan, and this fall he’ll star as a doctor in a new medical series, Three Rivers. Is there a cancelled TV series you’d like to see revived?

Poll ~ Which cancelled tv show would you like to have revived?

Parade Magazine is hosting a poll on their website. It has many questions, but the 1st is the one we are interested in the most. They ask "Which cancelled TV series would you most want to see return?" Moonlight is a choice, for your voting pleasure.

Teaser movie poster for The Back-Up Plan & a new interview

Reporter Bob Thompson recently interviewed Jennifer Lopez on the set of The Back-Up Plan. While he was there, he spoke to Alex O'Loughlin too. We heard that Jennifer was involved in picking her co-star. In this interview, she confirms that she had cast approval and... smart girl... she knew Alex was the guy for the job!

I will print part of the chat here. You can read the entire interview by following the link below.

Also, as I'm sure you already noticed, above you will see the newly released teaser poster for the movie :)

Jennifer Lopez returns with a back-up plan
by Bob Thompson @ Canwest News Service

LOS ANGELES — Jennifer Lopez seems at home as she wanders the hallowed halls of Radford Studios, originally built in this San Fernando Valley enclave as the cinema home for silent film greats Charlie Chaplin and The Keystone Cops.

More recently, the sound stage complex housed the long running TV sitcoms Seinfeld and That '70s Show, among many others. And now it's home to JLo who is determined to revive her film career with the romantic comedy The Back-Up Plan, which she's currently filming here.

In the Alan Poul-directed movie set to open early next year, Lopez plays Zoe, a freethinking Manhattan woman who decides to go it alone as a single parent. She's conceiving twins through artificial insemination when she meets whom she believes might be Mister Right (Alex O'Loughlin), even if he has some reservations.

That story's not much of a leap for Lopez. She's the devoted wife of Marc Anthony, her Mister Right, and the caring mother to fraternal twins Max and Emme, born to her on Feb. 22, 2008.

Lopez agrees it was easy to identify with the screenplay. Still, the 39-year-old had misgivings about returning to the grind after tending to her real-life babies, which accompany her to most of The Back-Up Plan locations around the city.

"I don't think it is any big secret that I love romantic comedies," says Lopez who is joined for the chat by her co-star O'Loughlin. "I chose this specific movie because I thought it was funny and romantic and it had a little bit of a naughty edge to it."

Not surprisingly, she also had cast approval and lots to say in selecting co-star O'Loughlin, the Australian actor best known for his detective role in The Shield and private investigator and vampire in the now cancelled Moonlight series.

Her assessment? She says she decided he had lots of charm, but more critically O'Loughlin had the strength of character to stand up to the strong-willed Lopez on screen.

As it was, she knew she would be a force in the part. "Having been pregnant and having my own kids I responded right away to my character," she admits. "But then I hadn't been on a set for 26 months."

So she had to take it slow and easy those for the first few weeks on The Back-Up Plan. "It was nerve-racking," confesses Lopez smiling. "I thought maybe I would forget how to do it right."

"But she didn't," assures O'Loughlin, who says he's been impressed with her commitment to detail in general and her comedic timing specifically.

Shrugging off the compliment, Lopez says she's accustomed to being under-estimated whether it's on a sound stage or in a recording studio.

Over-exposed by public displays of exaggeration? She became accustomed to that as well.

For nearly a decade, the singer and actress unintentionally provided gossipy fodder for sensationalists around the world.

Almost everybody knows the turmoil she's experienced, whether the incidents were overblown or not. There were her failed marriages, the Sean Combs nightlife clubbing phase, and the wild and wacky 'Bennifer' engagement to Ben Affleck that became infamously disengaged.

So that's her baggage real or imagined. And O'Loughlin's asked the obvious because of it.

What's it like acting opposite somebody so famous?

As he tries to explain himself, Lopez's goading him to come clean with what he really thinks.

"Believe it or not I didn't have any pre-conceived ideas," he says. "She's smoking hot and super famous."

"And for someone as iconic as you are," adds O'Loughlin, pausing as he looks at Lopez who interrupts him with "I want to hear the second part of that sentence."

"OK, I think of you as a grounded person who's got all of her stuff down at work," he says, looking relieved he's finished without more good-natured taunting by Lopez.

Contact information for the Syfy Channel

Many have been requesting contact information for the Syfy Channel (formerly Sci-Fi). Some want to tell the network executives "thank you!" for airing reruns of Moonlight, others want to encourage them to continue repeating our show or ask them to consider producing a Moonlight mini-series &/or tv movie, some want to do all of the above! I have posted the channel's info several times in the past, but here it is again for ya :)

Keep in mind, sending email messages is great. However, taking just a few minutes to write, stamp and mail an actual postcard or letter has more impact. Postcards can be read immediately, while letters may not be opened at all. Of course, we need to continue to be polite & concise in all correspondence.

Sci Fi Wire ~ Another article mentions a possible Moonlight Movie

Sci Fi Wire is the news service of the Sci-Fi Channel... now called Syfy, by the way. An interesting article is on their website. Moonlight fans, get ready to have your hearts race!

As you know, our show won the Saturn Award for Best Television Series Release on DVD. Co-executive producer, Harry Werksman, accepted the trophy. He also answered an entertainment reporter's questions regarding a Moonlight movie. *gulp* We've all been hoping and dreaming of this possibility. According to Harry, "I think what we were going to try and do is to have the movie encapsulate the entire second season..." He goes on to say that, not only did he speak to Alex O'Loughlin about a film version of Moonlight, but Alex asked him "When are we going to do the movie?" Please, oooo please, oooo please :)

The article states that Moonlight repeats are showing on SciFi each Friday evening. However, our show is not currently on the channel's Friday night schedule. Yellow highlighted text is my emphasis.

Could a movie version of the vampire TV show Moonlight rise from the dead?
By Fred Topel

The recent vampire craze born of Twilight and True Blood came a bit too late to save CBS' Moonlight: The vampire detective series was canceled after one season. But it won a Saturn Award for best series on DVD last week, and executive producer Harry Werksman offered fans some hope that a Moonlight movie could offer some closure.

"Well, we were setting up in the end of our first season that there was a coming war," Werksman said in an exclusive interview at the awards ceremony in Burbank, Calif. "There was the family from which Coraline came, and it was a royal bloodline of vampires that Mick had been brought into, very much unwanted on his part. I think what we were going to try and do is to have the movie encapsulate the entire second season of the coming war."

The series chronicled the casework of detective Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin), who could solve crimes committed by vampires. He was dealing with his own issues with an ex, Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon), who turned him without his consent, and a 400-year-old vamp (Jason Dohring), who butted in with underworld politics.

Of course, a movie would require the entire cast to return, and after the show's cancellation, they all booked new gigs. "You know, unfortunately, I think that everyone has kind of moved on," Werksman said.

One medium that does not need actors, however, is comic books. "No, they don't need actors," Werksman said. "We could always do comic books, graphic novels, that's true."

A movie is not out of the question, though, because lead actor O'Loughlin has told Werksman he's still interested. "I know I talked to Alex just a couple weeks ago, after Three Rivers got picked up, and I was congratulating him," he said. "He's like, 'When are we going to do the movie?' I said, 'I don't know, man. Any time you're ready.'"

Moonlight: The Complete Series is available on DVD; reruns currently air on SCI FI Channel Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
