Teaser movie poster for The Back-Up Plan & a new interview

Reporter Bob Thompson recently interviewed Jennifer Lopez on the set of The Back-Up Plan. While he was there, he spoke to Alex O'Loughlin too. We heard that Jennifer was involved in picking her co-star. In this interview, she confirms that she had cast approval and... smart girl... she knew Alex was the guy for the job!

I will print part of the chat here. You can read the entire interview by following the link below.

Also, as I'm sure you already noticed, above you will see the newly released teaser poster for the movie :)

Jennifer Lopez returns with a back-up plan
by Bob Thompson @ Canwest News Service

LOS ANGELES — Jennifer Lopez seems at home as she wanders the hallowed halls of Radford Studios, originally built in this San Fernando Valley enclave as the cinema home for silent film greats Charlie Chaplin and The Keystone Cops.

More recently, the sound stage complex housed the long running TV sitcoms Seinfeld and That '70s Show, among many others. And now it's home to JLo who is determined to revive her film career with the romantic comedy The Back-Up Plan, which she's currently filming here.

In the Alan Poul-directed movie set to open early next year, Lopez plays Zoe, a freethinking Manhattan woman who decides to go it alone as a single parent. She's conceiving twins through artificial insemination when she meets whom she believes might be Mister Right (Alex O'Loughlin), even if he has some reservations.

That story's not much of a leap for Lopez. She's the devoted wife of Marc Anthony, her Mister Right, and the caring mother to fraternal twins Max and Emme, born to her on Feb. 22, 2008.

Lopez agrees it was easy to identify with the screenplay. Still, the 39-year-old had misgivings about returning to the grind after tending to her real-life babies, which accompany her to most of The Back-Up Plan locations around the city.

"I don't think it is any big secret that I love romantic comedies," says Lopez who is joined for the chat by her co-star O'Loughlin. "I chose this specific movie because I thought it was funny and romantic and it had a little bit of a naughty edge to it."

Not surprisingly, she also had cast approval and lots to say in selecting co-star O'Loughlin, the Australian actor best known for his detective role in The Shield and private investigator and vampire in the now cancelled Moonlight series.

Her assessment? She says she decided he had lots of charm, but more critically O'Loughlin had the strength of character to stand up to the strong-willed Lopez on screen.

As it was, she knew she would be a force in the part. "Having been pregnant and having my own kids I responded right away to my character," she admits. "But then I hadn't been on a set for 26 months."

So she had to take it slow and easy those for the first few weeks on The Back-Up Plan. "It was nerve-racking," confesses Lopez smiling. "I thought maybe I would forget how to do it right."

"But she didn't," assures O'Loughlin, who says he's been impressed with her commitment to detail in general and her comedic timing specifically.

Shrugging off the compliment, Lopez says she's accustomed to being under-estimated whether it's on a sound stage or in a recording studio.

Over-exposed by public displays of exaggeration? She became accustomed to that as well.

For nearly a decade, the singer and actress unintentionally provided gossipy fodder for sensationalists around the world.

Almost everybody knows the turmoil she's experienced, whether the incidents were overblown or not. There were her failed marriages, the Sean Combs nightlife clubbing phase, and the wild and wacky 'Bennifer' engagement to Ben Affleck that became infamously disengaged.

So that's her baggage real or imagined. And O'Loughlin's asked the obvious because of it.

What's it like acting opposite somebody so famous?

As he tries to explain himself, Lopez's goading him to come clean with what he really thinks.

"Believe it or not I didn't have any pre-conceived ideas," he says. "She's smoking hot and super famous."

"And for someone as iconic as you are," adds O'Loughlin, pausing as he looks at Lopez who interrupts him with "I want to hear the second part of that sentence."

"OK, I think of you as a grounded person who's got all of her stuff down at work," he says, looking relieved he's finished without more good-natured taunting by Lopez.

Video ~ Behind the scenes interview with Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring

Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring interview ~ Behind the scenes ~ Part 1

Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring interview ~ Behind the scenes ~ Part 2

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!

We've all seen different clips of this interview with Alex O'Loughlin and Jason Dohring on the studio lot. Thanks to Moonlitmuse, in these videos you will see the extended version of the chat. Behind the scenes of Moonlight AND behind the scenes of the interview shoot too. The action is stopped at the beginning to allow for the camera to move in front of Jason and the hostess. A producer can be heard through-out feeding questions to the chick interviewing our boys. Alex asks the question I had too........ why doesn't the producer just ask the questions & ditch the hostess?!? Leave it to him to come out & ask. He is so candid and funny.

Alex & Jason are good natured and have an easy going rapport. It is obvious that they feel comfortable with each other. Love the banter! Alex did this interview with only about 2 hours of sleep. I don't know about you, but I would have been tired and cranky. *grin*

Our boys look soooooooo handsome! And... we get to enjoy Alex's delicious Australian accent :)

I grinned my way through this interview. Since they are such good looking guys, the hostess asks Jason & Alex how they keep the women away, Alex replies "Jason touches me like this." I almost fell over laughing at that!

There is lots of talk about Alex being on the Moonlight billboards. Jason says he had Alex take a photo of himself naked in front of the one on Sunset Blvd. "It's really artistic." Uh.... how do I get that photo? hehehehe....

"I don't touch everyone's testicles."

Jason & Alex answer how they differ in real life from their characters Josef Kostan & Mick St John.

We "learnt" that badass is one of Alex's favorite sayings. Leave it to us Americans to come up with fun ways to cuss & express ourselves.

Jason did a fab job when he took over and questioned Alex. "How disappointed were you when you saw that I wasn't on the billboard?"

Interview Alex O'Loughlin on the set of What's Left Behind (episode #1x15)

Today, Media Blvd Magazine published a behind the scenes interview with Alex O'Loughlin. At the time Christina Radish spoke to him, tomorrow night's episode of Moonlight ~ What's Left Behind (#1x15) ~ was being filmed.

Mild spoilers for What's Left Behind (episode #1x15) ahead!

Alex O'Loughlin on the set of 'Moonlight'

Australian actor Alex O’Loughlin first came to the attention of American audiences when he was added to the sixth season of the Emmy-winning police drama The Shield. The CBS television series Moonlight marks the 31-year-old’s first turn in a leading role, as private investigator Mick St. John. Captivating, charming and immortal, Mick defies the traditional blood-sucking norms of his vampire tendencies by using his wit and powerful supernatural abilities to help the living. Bitten 60 years ago, and forever 30 years of age, Mick develops a distinctive bond with ambitious investigative reporter Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), even though their differences keep him from pursuing his feelings for her.

The actor took a break while filming Episode 15 to speak with MediaBlvd Magazine about the relationship between Mick and Beth, and where he sees the show going in Season Two.

MediaBlvd Magazine> Were you a fan of the vampire genre, before this show came your way?

Alex O’Loughlin > Absolutely, yeah. I’ve always been enamored with the shameless sensuality within the genre, unlike any other genre. And, also, the shameless excess to which these creatures live, and how deeply vampires feel, sensoraly. Their senses are heightened. If you were to compare a vampire to an animal, I would think it would probably be a cat, on a lot of levels, with the touch and smell. They’re so sensitive, especially when they morph. I’ve always loved that. As a kid, the head of my bed was underneath a really big window and, where I grew up, you could see the stars really clearly. I used to lay on my back and look up at the stars. From the moment I learned the concept of infinity and I could grasp it, I struggled with it. The stars used to keep me awake at night, to the point where it was very difficult for me to get up and go to school the next day because I’d just be doing head miles about this thing, called infinity. How can it never stop? How can it never end? What do you mean it doesn’t have an end? And, even if it does have an ending, what’s after that? I’ve always been fascinated with the concept of infinity and immortality -- that you would go on forever, regardless of what happens in the world. It could be post-apocalyptic and everything’s dead, except for you.

MediaBlvd> Will viewers get to see Mick in combat in Episode 15?

Alex O'Loughlin > Yeah, you see Mick in heavy combat with his best friend. A lot of this episode is based around that, and based around the fact that Mick may have family ties out there today. It’s pretty interesting stuff.

MediaBlvd> Since Episode 15 will have flashbacks to Mick during the war, what was his title?

Alex O'Loughlin > When he went in, Mick was a medic with basic overall training. As we will see in this episode, some of his other firearm training is honed, in the face of battle, which is the reality for so many soldiers at war. A lot of my friends have been to battle in Somalia and the Gulf War, and they go in specializing in one area, and they come out knowing a whole lot more about a lot of other stuff because of what happens in the moment. That’s some of the stuff that we’re dealing with, in Episode 15. I’m really excited about the episode.

MediaBlvd> If Mick was a medic when he went into the war, he was already dealing with blood as a main thing in his life, before he became a vampire, wasn’t he?

Alex O'Loughlin > Yeah, absolutely, except it didn’t quite have the profound affect that it has on him today. If you go back to Episode 11, when Josh’s life finished and Mick tried to save him, he’s pretty good at turning it off and dealing with what he has to deal with, but there was so much blood. The urge to do what comes instinctively and naturally to him now was right at the surface, the whole time. But, he was no stranger to blood and bloody parts.

MediaBlvd> Knowing that he’s got the medical background, how do you think that affects what he does now?

Alex O'Loughlin > Personally, you make all sorts of character decisions that never necessarily make it to the final cut of a show or a film. But, one of the things I’d done a lot of thinking about was that, in the many years that Mick has had, and before he became a private investigator, in that transition time for him, which was a number of years, he may have gone off and actually done a lot of research and gotten really well educated in blood. Mick has got such a strict set of morals. He doesn’t kill for pleasure anymore. He gets his blood from a blood bank. He’s structured this way of living and this way of existing, as a vampire. It sits more comfortable with him than what is instinctive to him. When he’s consuming blood, he knows all about the cells and about the structure of blood, whereas a lot of vampires may not know that.

MediaBlvd> Do you enjoy doing the stunts on the show?

Alex O'Loughlin > It depends on if they work or not, and how much they hurt. I don’t do them all myself. I have a very, very dedicated stunt team, who do a lot of work. I do a lot of my own stuff. In the first 12 episodes, I did more than I’ve been doing in the last few weeks, simply because I don’t have the time. We’ve got a number of different units shooting and we’ve got a little more money, so we can afford to shoot at the pace that we need to. So, if they need me on Main Unit and the stunt is being done on the Second Unit and I just can’t be there, then I have to let it go. But, I really love doing that. I’ve got a harness that I use for wirework, when Mick goes up in the air and does big jumps, and stuff. I really like the fighting stuff. And I really enjoy being part of the choreography of that. I see it as a dance. My character should inform the way we choreograph the fights. I find it exhilarating.

MediaBlvd> Are you happy with where your character is at, on the show?

Alex O'Loughlin > When you do a pilot and they fire everyone but you, you learn to not have any expectations, whatsoever, because surprises are inevitable. So, I’ve tried to maintain that with an open mind, as we’ve gone along. I’ve made suggestions, some of which have not really been applicable, and others have been integrated into the story and into the show. Yeah, I am happy. I don’t know how we’re still going. There have been so many reasons and times for the show to be cancelled -- monetary, political, all sorts of things. The fact that we’re still going, with everything that’s gone on with the strike -- we lost so many episodes there -- is testament to what we have here with Moonlight, with the cast and crew, and the fans. I am happy with where Mick is, where we find him, and what we know about him with the back stories we’ve been able to introduce. But, a lot of shelved ideas can still come to fruition in the second season. I think we’re in really, really good shape.

MediaBlvd> Can you talk about your working relationship with Sophia Myles?

Alex O'Loughlin > I work a little differently, on some levels, when I’m doing film, as opposed to when I’m doing television, because television doesn’t stop. It’s just a part of your day-to-day life. When you’re doing a film, that might be the case for three months, six months or eight months, but there’s a finite beginning, middle and end. You know the arc of the story, you know how you’re going to tell it, you tell it and you go home. Television just keeps going. Sophia and I spend a lot of time together and we’re great mates. She’s really fantastic to work with. I’m Australian and she’s British, and we have similar sensibilities and a similar sense of humor. We grew up with the same TV. We have a lot in common. She’s easy to get along with, which makes a big difference, when you’ve got to spend 18 hours a day with somebody. But, as far as our relationship goes, in comparison to Mick and Beth, it’s very different. There is no tension between Sophia and I. We’re colleagues. We’re not lovers. We have our separate lives. People talk about on screen chemistry. We work together, and those two characters have this really fantastic chemistry. I see it, when I watch the show back, but it’s not tangible in real life. When you put it on film, it’s there.

MediaBlvd> Where would you like to see Mick go in Season Two? Should he and Beth get together?

Alex O'Loughlin > The minute he and Beth actually get together and consummate their love, it’s a different story. At the moment, we still very much have the Romeo & Juliet thing going on. When this show was pitched to me, they said, “It’s about a vampire P.I.,” and I was like, “Really? This should be good.” And, I read it and it’s about so much more than that. It really deals with the big ideas. I think it’s got elements of Hamlet and Romeo & Juliet, and a lot of big stories that have already been told. That element will no longer be there because it wouldn’t be unrequited love anymore. It would be consummated love and, therefore, we’d be headed in a different direction. Having said that, if that does happen, I’m sure we’ll deal with it and it will be interesting, no matter what. I don’t know if that’s what I want to happen. I really like the dramatic tension that is there because these two haven’t had that physical and spiritual connection yet. Where do I want this show to go? Really, the limits to the storytelling possibilities for us are the limits of our imaginations because the ideas are so immense. We’ve got so much flashback stuff to do. There are pieces of jewelry that Mick wears, that he’s worn since the beginning of the show, that we haven’t talked about yet, but come from different stories as well. There was all the bloodline stuff in Episode 12, and the fact that Mick comes from French royalty, essentially. Now that he’s re-turned in one of the new episodes, there’s another bloodline involved in Mick now. Does that make him more powerful? Does he have new skills that he doesn’t know about yet? Is he going to re-realize himself, on another level? I’ve got lots of ideas. I walk into the writer’s room and they go, “Oh, God!” There are so many ways that we can go with this. I just hope we get a Season Two because of the possibilities. We can go anywhere.

MediaBlvd> If you were ever turned into a vampire in real life, do you think you’d be more inclined to follow Mick’s path or Josef’s path?

Alex O'Loughlin > I don’t know. I’m a bit of an epicurist. I like nice stuff. I’m happy to have nothing, as well. I grew up without very much. But, when I do have stuff, I like it to be nice stuff. I’m a bit of a snob. And so, I think I’d fit in just fine. I think it would probably be a combination of both. I think I’d go the Josef path, and then I’d be racked with shame and guilt. But then, I’d do it again, for eternity. I think that’s a fair guestimation of what would happen.

MediaBlvd> Fans have been donating a lot of blood to the Red Cross, in an attempt to help get the show renewed for a second season. What do you think of their efforts?

Alex O'Loughlin > We’re working towards making me a spokesperson for the American Red Cross, which I certainly hope happens because I’d love to be involved in any sort of organization or charity that helps other people, whether it’s non-profit or otherwise. The fans have instigated it. They are so pro-active. I’ve never seen anything like it. Before Moonlight, I hadn’t been the lead of a TV show. I haven’t had a fan base like this before. I have fans that have seen my work in independent film, but I’m new to this. It’s quite overwhelming, not only witnessing, first-hand, the amount of people and how much they support the show, but watching their behavior and seeing them actually participate and step up. It’s great. Any time any of us get the opportunity to do any sort of philanthropic work, we should take it.

MediaBlvd> What inspired you to become an actor?

Alex O'Loughlin > I don’t remember it, but my grandmother, who’s 93 years old, told me that when I was just speaking as a toddler, about 2 or 3, I told her, “Gran, I want to be an actor when I grow up.” So, apparently, it’s always been there. I did some plays and stuff, in elementary school and during my primary schooling, that I really, really enjoyed. But then, I didn’t think about it for the longest time. When I was 18 or 19, I was showing off, one day, in front of a group of my friends. A good friend of mine pulled me aside and said, “You know, you’re an actor, and if you don’t do anything about it, you should be ashamed of yourself.” When I thought about it, I realized that he was right. I’d spent my life, to date, walking out of cinemas and theatres, and away from performances, feeling a strange, nostalgic, empty, sick feeling, and I could never explain it to the people I was with. It was this thing that isolated me from people. And then, it all just clicked into place. And so, from that moment, I pursued it and I haven’t looked back.

MediaBlvd> What is your greatest fear?

Alex O'Loughlin > People. What we’re capable of is terrifying. It’s a wonderful world that we live in, but it’s not in the best shape. Presently, and the state of things to come, is dependent on people and the decisions they make. We, as humans, haven’t exactly got a good track record, making good decisions on behalf of people on the planet. I’m always watching what we do, as a race. You watch CNN and you read the papers, and it never ceases to amaze me. Art imitates life, more often than not. Often, I’ll make a choice as an actor, and then, after making that choice, based on what would actually happen, I realize that I can’t put it on screen because no one’s going to believe it, so I have to modify it.

Media Blvd interviews Eric Winter on Moonlight's set

Christina Radish, from Media Blvd Magazine, has done a wonderful interview with ADA Benjamin Talbot on the set of Moonlight. We learn how Eric Winter got into the business, what we will see from Talbot in his first episodes, what Eric hopes will happen to his new character in season two & more.

Eric Winter Joins The Cast of 'Moonlight'
by Christina Radish

Actor Eric Winter is the latest edition to the CBS television series Moonlight, about vampire private investigator Mick St. John (Alex O’Loughlin). As Assistant District Attorney Ben Talbot, Winter -- who has previously made appearances on such shows as Charmed, CSI, Wildfire and Brothers & Sisters -- will be shaking things up for Mick and Beth (Sophia Myles).

Winter took time out, while filming Episode 15, to speak with MediaBlvd Magazine on the Warner Bros. Studios set of the show.

MediaBlvd Magazine> Since you’re the new guy on the show, can you talk about who your character is?

Eric Winter> We’re learning more and more about him, all the time. It’s a little bit mysterious, in the sense that he’s driven by his work. He’s out to do whatever he has to, to get the answers to solve the crimes going on in town. And, there’s an interesting fondness towards Beth. I’m learning about him at the same time as everybody else. What’s his real motive with Beth? Why was he brought in? She’s an attractive girl, so there’s going to be some of that brought in for a little bit of a love triangle possibility. Besides being the Assistant District Attorney in town, and trying to keep law and order, we’re here to mix up a little personal life, as well.

MediaBlvd> Is he a vampire?

Eric Winter> No. Not that I know of. It hasn’t happened yet. Maybe he’ll get turned.

MediaBlvd> Were you a fan of vampire mythology, before this?

Eric Winter> I was a big fan of Bram Stroker’s Dracula. All these types of werewolves and vampires, and all that stuff, has always been fascinating to me. It’s just a cool genre. Wouldn’t it be cool, if they were real? I dig the fact that this is set in that tone?

MediaBlvd> Had you seen the show, prior to being cast, or did you have to catch up on episodes, once you got the role?

Eric Winter> I had seen some of it, early on. And then, I was working on a couple other things. I’m one of those people who does not stay on track with a lot of shows, which is terrible because I do a lot of TV acting. But, I knew people that were on the show and I was a fan of what I was hearing about it, and I caught some of the early episodes. And then, I played some catch up as well. Then, the strike really screwed everybody up. But, yeah, I was a fan of the show.

MediaBlvd> Was it hard to come into a show, when everybody already knew each other?

Eric Winter> It can be hard. But, in this particular situation, it wasn’t at all. They were extremely welcoming. Alex and Sophia run a really great ship, as far as the cast goes, being that they’re the two leads on the show. They’re really warm. And, starting from the top, down, the producers and everybody have been extremely welcoming and friendly, which makes for a really comfortable environment when you’re coming into a show mid-stream, especially towards the tail-end, after a strike situation, when everything was started and then stopped. It worked out really well and I am very fortunate. Every show is different, in this town, and you’re not always guaranteed a comfortable environment.

MediaBlvd> What would you like to see your character do, if the show gets picked up for a second season?

Eric Winter> I don’t know a whole lot of what they have planned, but I would love to see a little bit more insight into Ben Talbot -- who he is and why he came around in this situation. I understand he’s an Assistant District Attorney and he’s following up on the job. The last Assistant District Attorney is no longer with us, so he’s taking over, in that sense. But, I would love to see a little bit more into his past and why he is the way he is because he’s a very driven workaholic, and does anything he has to. And I’d love to see more develop between him and Beth. They’re definitely headed in that direction, so I’m excited about that and I want to see where that’s going to go.

MediaBlvd> Do you think there’s a chance that his drive could lead him to less than savory practices?

Eric Winter> Oh, I’m sure. I think he’ll do anything. I don’t think he necessarily sticks to the book, so it’s going to affect what and who he’s willing to go after, especially to screw with Mick. Mick is definitely not someone he feels loyal to. He’s got a big finger on the pulse of Mick and he can’t quite figure it out, and I think it drives him crazy. He almost wants to expose whatever it is that’s mysterious about him because he can’t stand that he’s constantly getting in the middle of his stuff. He wants to be the top dog. So, any angle to get to Mick is going to be key.

MediaBlvd> So, he doesn’t know that Mick is a vampire?

Eric Winter> No, but he knows that definitely something’s up. We’ve got a little connection. He’s got his eye on him.

MediaBlvd> What’s Mick’s reaction to your character? How do your characters first meet?

Eric Winter> The first scene of my first episode, I come across Beth, in a situation that we’re in, and Mick can’t quite figure me out. He’s not judging me right away, but I am judging him. I know a lot about him. Assuming that I’ve been in the District Attorney’s office and I knew the last Assistant District Attorney from past interactions, I know who Mick St. John is and I’m not fond of his practices. So, he definitely sees that I’m sizing him up, and he doesn’t like that.

MediaBlvd> Is there any interaction between your character and Josef?

Eric Winter> There is, in the first episode back, but there’s not a whole lot, as far as my character. That remains to be developed. That will come out later, I’m sure.

MediaBlvd> Would you want your character to turn into a vampire?

Eric Winter> Who doesn’t? I want those cool fangs on. I’ve never had that happen to me, in my life, so it would be kinda cool. I’ve never gotten to play a vampire before. That would be a fun thing.

MediaBlvd> Have you gotten to do any of your own stunts in the action scenes?

Eric Winter> My first episode wasn’t crazy for me, as far as the stunts go. I guess I did fly into a cabinet, but it was a minor little stunt. I can see it definitely unfolding, on this show. They do stunts quite a bit. I’m impressed. Alex has his work cut out for him because he does a lot of the stunts. But, I’m definitely excited to be a part of more of that. I’m very much that type of a person, in real life. I love anything extreme, just going off and having a great time. I’m looking forward to some of those stunts.

MediaBlvd> How did you first get into acting?

Eric Winter> I hate to say it, but I was a model turned actor. I started by modeling and I took some drama in college. It was not my major. I got a degree in Psychology, which actually applies a lot to acting, and the people you come across. Basically, I got very turned on by it, through the drama classes, and when I started modeling, I transitioned into a lot of different acting classes and I was able to get into a really wonderful comfort zone with it. It’s a lot of fun. It’s a passion that’s grown tremendously, since I started. I’m not one of those typical people who knew their whole life that they were going to be an actor. It grew with me, so it was fun to be a part of that.

MediaBlvd> Will your character be returning to Brothers & Sisters?

Eric Winter> No talks of it yet. I could assume that there’s probably room for it. I’ve given them a tough situation. As soon as I booked that show, I had another TV show for CBS, called Viva Laughlin, so they had to work around that. They wrote me out and sent me to Malaysia. And then, Viva got cancelled and I went back to Brothers & Sisters. Then, there was the writer’s strike. Now, I’m on Moonlight. So, they’re probably saying, “What the hell do we do with this character?” And, I’m Rob Lowe’s brother, so I’m part of the family. I assume you’ll probably see me again, at some point, at least for closure. It’s a great group over there, and I was fortunate to be a part of that.

MediaBlvd> You also have a movie coming out on the same day Moonlight returns?

Eric Winter> Yeah, Harold & Kumar: Escape from Alcatraz. I’m excited about that. Hopefully, it will be a big night for CBS and a big night for New Line.

MediaBlvd> Do you have any other projects coming up?

Eric Winter> Yeah, I’m doing another movie right now, that I’ll be doing simultaneously with the show, called The Ugly Truth, for Sony with Lakeshore, starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. I’m looking forward to that as well. I’m sure that will come out next year sometime. It’s a romantic comedy, and I play Katherine’s sort of love interest, throughout the process. Gerard is teaching her how to date me, throughout the movie, and then, of course, he ends up with the girl. When you shoot 300 and you become a big movie star, I guess they give you the girl, at the end. One day, I’ll get that girl.

MediaBlvd> In real life, what’s your greatest fear?

Eric Winter> I’m not a super-macho stud with no fears. I have a weird, crazy fear/infatuation with sharks. I love sharks. They’re one of the coolest things on the planet. But, every now and then, when I’m drifting out in the ocean and swimming, I start thinking, “Wow, if I got attacked right now, what would happen?” It’s one of the things that stumbles across my mind. But, I’m a weird guy. I had pet snakes, growing up. I love reptiles. There are not a lot of things I have phobias over. I’m cool with tarantulas, and all those kinds of things. But, something about a shark and the element of surprise in the ocean, freaks me out a little bit. I love the ocean. I’ll snorkel and scuba dive. I did a thing, one time, in Tahiti where I snorkeled into this area where they feed black tip reef sharks all around your boat, and you jump in and you’re just in the middle, surrounded by probably 20 or 30 of them, in the middle of the ocean, and not in a cage. And from having this weird infatuation with sharks, I was freaking out, holding onto the boat, while they were circling me, and there was nothing to stop them from killing me. It was really cool, but I was flipping out the whole time. I’m infatuated, but I’m freaked out, at the same time.

Spoilers ~ Behind the scenes video interviews with Moonlight's cast

SPOILER ALERT!

This video is of Seat42f's behind the scenes interviews with Moonlight's Alex O'Loughlin, Jason Dohring, Sophia Myles and Eric Winter. I really love chats that take place on the set. It is super cool to see them filming what we are gonna soon be watching on tv :)

Lots of spoilers! Our first look at the wicked fight scene with vamped out Mick and Josef working together to battle the bad vamps. *cheer*

Sophia ~ "The ladies are gonna love this episode cuz the first time you see Mick and Beth they're having a picnic down on the beach in Malibu. And, Beth looks up to see Mick striding towards her, along the sand, with his shirt open. So, it's great!" Yes, Sophia.... we do kinda like that *wink*

Alex ~ "They haven't consummated yet, it's very close"

You know that I'm an action/adventure girl who gets a little too riled up by the vamped out scenes. hehehehe..... This will be our first time to see Josef in full Vampire makeup and fighting!

Alex ~ "I've got a big fight scene. I've gotta kick some ass. I have to! It's my duty as a Vampire private investigator. It's the only way I can save my Beth. So, I'm coming in to get my girl."

My Beth, my girl.... awwwwwwww... I like how Alex says that.

Jason ~ "We kinda come in in this scene and Butch Cassidy Sundance Kid kind of tear some ass up."

Sophia ~ "It's a thrill ride." As Mick would say, It's a giant thrill ride that never ends!

Part 2 ~ Moonlight set interview with Alex O'Loughlin & Eric Winter

In Part 2, Movie Web publishes their on set interview with Alex O'Loughlin and Eric Winter. It is lovely to hear how welcome they made Eric feel. "Alex and Sophia run a really great ship as far as the cast goes. They are really warm. Starting from the top down, everybody has been really friendly and supportive." I am not surprised :) Be warned... there are spoilers included ahead.

The interviews were conducted while What's Left Behind (episode #1x15) was being filmed.

SPOILER ALERT!

Remember when we speculated about the possibility of Mick having a child from his pre-vamp life?! Hmmmmmm......

Moonlight Set Visit Part II: We Take a Stroll with Alex O'Loughlin and Eric Winter

On April 25th, 2008, Mick St. John is returning to your living room with a giant bag full of unexpected twists and secrets that will keep your water cooler conversations guessing throughout the summer. CBS plans to air four all new episodes of its hit series Moonlight over the course of the next four weeks, and it will all cumulate in one slam-bang breath-ceasing season finale. We recently headed over to the Warner Bothers lot to get the inside scoop on the second half of Moonlight's first season. While there, we interviewed all of the key cast members including Jason Dohring and Sophia Myles.

This time out, we got a change to speak with both Alex O'Loughlin and series newcomer Eric Winter. When we arrived, they were both busy working on episode fifteen, which sees Alex's Mick St. John transported back to World War II. It's a flashback, of course. But some pretty heavy secrets are revealed, and these plot threads will carry the show into one of the craziest season finales of the year.

Episode thirteen, which premiers this Friday at 9pm, picks up exactly where episode twelve left off. Mick is still mortal, and Beth is still angry with him for letting her fiance Josh die. Of course Mick won't stay human for long. The premise of the show is vampires. But he does get to have some fun in his corporeal skin. We see him enjoying orange juice for breakfast instead of blood, and there is a prolonged montage of him soaking in the sun. Sadly, all good things come to pass, and before this latest episode is over, Mick will once again be sucking on a donor bag. The big twist comes with how he is turned back into a vamp. It won't be the way you think. The protective salve he has applied to his skin doesn't wear off. No. Something much worse happens to the poor chap.

The way in which Mick is turned back into a vampire will have a dire effect on the entire structuring of the show. Certain roles will change, and relationships will become strained. Coraline will be returning, but not before the end of the season. We met up with Alex O'Loughlin behind a quaint family home decked out in forties regalia to get more information on the fate of his character and the entire series too boot. O'Loughlin showed up in his army uniform, his hair shorter than it has been during the duration of the program. He seemed in a rather cheery mood. Everyone on set seems to believe that Moonlight is definitely coming back for a second season next year.

Alex O'Loughlin : About my uniform today, Mick was a medic when he went into the army. He had basic overall training. That is what we will see in episode fifteen. This is where his firearm training is honed. We see him in battle, which is a reality for so many soldiers at war. A lot of my friends have been to battle in Somalia and the Gulf War. They have been to different parts of the world. They go in trained in one specific area, and they come out knowing a whole lot more. You experience a bunch of other stuff, because of the nature of what is going on. Some of the stuff we are dealing with in this episode is quite exciting.

If Mick was a medic during the war that means he was dealing with blood even before he turned into a vampire. Has that always been a main thing in his life?

Alex O'Loughlin : Yeah, absolutely. It still has a profound effect on him today. If you go back to episode eleven, when Josh's life is finished, and Mick has tried to save him? Part of what makes Mick unique is his ability to turn off his emotions and deal with what he has to deal with. There was so much blood. The urge to do what comes naturally to him can be subdued. That desire to drink the blood was right at the surface the whole time. So, he is no stranger to blood or body parts. He can control his natural instincts.

How did being a medic effect him as a vampire?

Alex O'Loughlin : I personally think that you make your own character decisions. And sometimes that stuff never makes it into the final cut of the show. One of the things I'd done a lot of thinking about was that Mick may have gone off and done a lot of research about hematology before becoming a Private Investigator. I think he studied up on it. He became educated in blood. This guy has such a strict set of morals. He doesn't kill for pleasure. Not any more. He gets his blood from a blood bank. He has structured this way of living. As a vampire that sits more comfortably with him. I'm sure it all has to do with his past. When he is consuming blood, he knows all about the cells. He knows the structure of the blood. A lot of vampires may not know about that stuff.

Where would you like to see Mick go to in the future. Do you think he and Beth should get together in season two?

Alex O'Loughlin : The minute he and Beth actually get together and consummate their love, it becomes a different story. At this moment, we still have the Romeo and Juliet thing going on. When this show was pitched to me, they said it was about a vampire P.I. I said, "Really?" I didn't think it would be good. But then I read it, and it is about so much more than that. It deals with epic ideas and themes. I think it has elements of Hamlet, it has elements of Romeo and Juliet. I think it has elements of a lot of big stories that have already been told. When we get together, that element will no longer be there. It won't be unrequited love anymore. That will push us in a different direction. Sure, we will deal with it. And it will be interesting, no matter what. Is that what I want to happen? I don't know. I really like the dramatic tension that is there because these two haven't had that physical and spiritual connection yet. Its funny. Where do I want this show to go? That depends on how long we've got. The limits to the storytelling possibilities are the limits to our imaginations. Because the ideas are so immense. We are dealing with immortality. And we have so much flashback work we can do. There are pieces of jewelry that Mick wears, that he has worn since the beginning of the show, that we haven't talked about yet. Those all come from different stories. There is stuff in episode twelve. All of the blood stuff, and that Mick comes from French royalty. Mick is involved with another bloodline. Does that make him more powerful? Does he have any new skills that he doesn't know about? Is he going to realize himself all over again, on a different level? I have lots of my own ideas. I walk into the writer's room, and they all go, "Oh, God!" The writers are the same as me. They feel there are so many ways we can go with this. I hope we get to season two, because there are just so many possibilities.

Do we see you engaged in combat in this episode you are shooting right now?

Alex O'Loughlin : Yes. Yeah, you see me in heavy combat with my best friend. A lot of this episode is based around that, and based around the fact that Mick may have a child that is alive today. And he would be about the same age as me. So, it is pretty heavy stuff.

We met up with series newcomer Eric Winter. He plays Assistant District Attorney Ben Talbot on the series. He is being introduced as a potential love interest for Beth, and a potential pain in the neck for Mick St. John. Here is our conversation:

Can you tell us about your character? He's new too the show, right?

Eric Winter : Yeah, he is ADA Ben Talbot. He is basically a good guy. We are learning more and more about him all the time. He is mysterious in that he is driven by his work. He will do anything to get the answers he needs in order to solve what is going on at the time. There is an interesting fondness he has towards Beth. I am learning about it as you are. Do you know what his motivation is towards Beth? Do you know? I think he was brought in for that reason. There may be a love connection there. Other than that, he is the assistant district attorney in town. While he is here to keep a little law and order, he is also here to mix up some personal lives as well.

Is he a vampire?

Eric Winter : No, not that I know of. That hasn't happened yet. Maybe I'll get turned one day.

Were you a fan of vampire mythology before coming onto this show?

Eric Winter : I was a big fan of Bram Stroker's Dracula. I love the mythology of it. I love the mythology of Dracula, and werewolves, and the mummy. It has always been fascinating to me. It is just a cool genre. I think they are real. I mean, wouldn't it be cool if they were? I dig the fact that this show is set in that tone and genre.

Coming onto the series, did you already know what was going on with the different characters, or did you have to play catch up really fast?

Eric Winter : I had seen some of the episodes early on. Then I started working on a couple of other things. It's terrible. Even though I do a lot of TV acting, I am not able to stay on track with a lot of shows. The stuff I had seen was because I knew some of the people that were on it. I loved what I was hearing about it. So I caught some of the earlier episodes when they aired. With the last couple, I have been playing catch-up. It was the strike that really screwed everybody up. But, yeah, I was a fan of the show before I arrived.

Was it a challenge coming on in the middle of the season?

Eric Winter : It can be hard, but in this particular situation it wasn't at all. They were extremely welcoming here. Alex and Sophia run a really great ship as far as the cast goes. They are really warm. Starting from the top down, everybody has been really friendly and supportive, which helps when you come in midstream like that. Especially towards the tail end, when a show is abruptly stopped such as ours was. This has worked out quite well despite that. Every show in this town is different. You are not always guaranteed a comfortable environment.

What do you hope to see happen with ADA Talbot?

Eric Winter : I can tell you what I hope to see, because I don't know a lot about what they have planned. I would love to see a little bit more insight into Ben Talbot. Who he is and why he has come around this situation. I understand that he is the assistant district attorney. And he is following up on the job of the last ADA. He is taking over in that sense, but I would like to see more insight into who he is. He is a very driven workaholic. I would like to see more with him and Beth. They are definitely headed in that direction. I am excited about that. I do want to see where that will go. I think Talbot will do anything. So there is no telling where he will go in order to screw with Mick. He definitely doesn't have any sort of loyalty to Mick. Maybe he wants to expose Mick, because the guy's business is constantly getting in the middle of my guy's stuff. Talbot wants to be the top dog, and any angle he can get to go at Mick he will take.

Moonlight returns this Friday, April 25th, at 9pm only on CBS.

Video ~ New on set interview with Sophia Myles

This video is of a new Daemon's TV interview with Sophia Myles. It was filmed on Moonlight's set. Sophia is too adorable :) We get to hear her lovely British accent in this interview. She chats about her many roles in Vampire movies & shows, what she thinks about Mick and Beth getting together, being offered the part in Moonlight, etc. We've all read the rumors that Eric Winter's ADA Talbot will be a romantic interest for Beth, and that we may have another love triangle on our hands. Sophia addresses this by saying that Beth's interest in Talbot is purely professional at this point.

SPOILER Video ~ Part 2 of Alex O'Loughlin's interview on Moonlight's set

SPOILER ALERT! Again! hahahaha....

This video is part 2 of Daemon TV's behind the scenes interview with Alex O'Loughlin. There is no big reveals of plot from the upcoming new episodes. However, he chats with them on the set dressed as Flashback Mick St John which I know some consider even knowing that we will see scenes from his Army service to be a spoiler. I know others of you who just HATE to see him in a uniform ~ *wink* I love hearing him talk to us with his native Australian accent.

When this was filmed, they were obviously shooting episode #1x15 ~ What's Left Behind.

In the recap for Love Lasts Forever (episode #1x11), I observed that it must have been incredibly difficult for Mick when he was trying to save Josh's life. Mick had been shot, was out in the sun and surrounded by all that blood ~ not to mention the emotional toll of Josh being Beth's boyfriend. It is nice to hear Alex refer back to that moment in this interview while discussing blood in Mick's life before & after becoming a Vampire.

Actors often give their characters a backstory to find a connection and help their performance. Normally, we don't get to hear those details. So far, we have found out a few things from Alex about the story he has given Mick. This time, it is that he imagines Mick may have studied blood. That perhaps he has more scientific knowledge of it than the average vamp.

"He doesn't kill for pleasure........ anymore" That made me giggle!

Part 1 of this interview showed Alex answering whether he would be more like Josef of Mick. That is included in this video too.

Movie Web interviews Sophia Myles and Jason Dohring on Moonlight's set

Movie Web has a great new chat with Sophia Myles and Jason Dohring on the set of Moonlight. They had a couple misspellings ~ like Alex O'Laughlin instead of O'Loughlin, Mick St James instead of Mick St John ~ which I have corrected here for you.

A few mild spoilers..........

Moonlight Set Visit Part I: We Chat with Jason Dohring and Sophia Myles

We tour the Buzzwire offices for a look at this season's last four episodes

Moonlight fans rejoice! Private Investigator Mick St. John is returning to CBS on Friday, April 25th for the first of four all-new episodes. And he's bringing along some mighty shocking twists that will have you chewing the skin off the back of your hand. You're not going to want to miss what series creators have in store for you this spring. Don't worry, we're not going to spoil the fun. You'll have to tune in if you want to see what fans will be talking about all summer long. Trust us, some mighty juicy stuff is about to seep out of the seams of this first season sensation.

When we last saw Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin), he had just turned mortal. Sadly, he could not share this experience with his intended love interest Beth (Sophia Myles) because she refused to see him after the death of her pending fiance Josh. This episode, titled "The Mortal Cure", left audiences in a horrific state of limbo. Now, the gang is back to wrap up these dangling plot threads. Will Mick return to his vampiric state? Will he and Beth finally hook-up? Will we finally get to see Josef vamp out? All these questions and more will be answered soon enough.

We were recently invited to the Moonlight set over on the Warner Brothers lot for an advanced sneak peek at the upcoming episodes. We also got a chance to talk with all of the key cast members including Jason Dohring, Sophia Myles, Alex O'Loughlin, and Eric Winter. As soon as we arrived in the WB parking garage, we were escorted to the Moonlight sets. Harrington Apartments, Josef's office, and Beth's beachside home are all housed in one single studio barn, as are Mick's office and the Buzzwire studio.

Walking through Josef's office was a bit dangerous, as the place hasn't recovered from the blowout experienced before the prolonged hiatus. Debris littered the floor, with huge gapping holes in the walls, and the roof torn open like a sardine can. On the table sat a book of fabric samples. At least his desk looked in tact. Just outside Josef's doorway sits Beth's beach house. Even though it has been built on a set, it is totally livable. The inside is decked out in seashells and sweet comfort. Once inside, we took a seat on the couch, where Jason Dohring was waiting to be interviewed.

Dohring plays Josef Kostan on the show. He is a centuries old vampire that has decided to live a pretty hedonistic lifestyle. He is also Mick's mentor and closest friend. Jason seemed pretty excited about this upcoming series of new episodes, and was more than happy to share his thoughts on the matter:

JASON DOHRING

What is it like going from Veronica Mars, where you played such a young kid, to this, where you are playing a character that is centuries old?

Jason Dohring: It is tough. When you play someone that has been around for just one lifetime, it is easier to understand him. You have more of a limited experience. When you play someone that has been around for maybe eight lifetimes, that is quite the challenge. There are no new situations. You've seen everything before. When I give advice to Mick? Please. The stuff that happens to him is stuff I dealt with three hundred years ago.

How does it feel to be back on set after such a long break?

Jason Dohring: It is rad. It is really great. We are doing some really awesome stuff. I am not bullshitting you. You guys are really going to love these upcoming episodes. I saw one scene of it in the editing room. I was emotional for the next hour and a half. That doesn't usually happen. Maybe I get emotional for five minutes. But this footage had me saying, "Wow!" The scene is just beautiful, and the score is amazing. We have a thirty-piece orchestra. It was scored by the director, and he got in there and said, "Play those instruments like you are never going to play them again." They went crazy. There was this guy on the upright bass. He was so cool. It is going to be rad.

Did you use your break to work on your character at all?

Jason Dohring: Yeah. I did, actually. With episodes thirteen and fourteen, I am really starting to understand what this guy is about. I am curious to know what you guys think. I think the progression is a lot better than how I originally perceived this character to be.

Are you going to have a bigger part in these four upcoming episodes?

Jason Dohring: I think so. Mick and I go and kick some ass in this episode coming up. We go in there like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. We start ripping some vamps up. I go vampire for the first time, which you haven't really seen. It is pretty cool. That will be a really good scene.

When do you think we will finally see that knock down, drag out fight between you and Mick?

Jason Dohring: Between us? Dude! I hope soon, but for the most part I think it will be him and I kicking someone else's ass. But will I ever kick his ass? Maybe. Hopefully, because that would be kind of cool to see what that would be like. We'd both get a little bit of a beat down. I'm into that sort of thing happening. They just haven't written it yet.

Are there any upcoming scenes that you can't wait for an audience to check out?

Jason Dohring: This whole next episode, man. I think it is the best one. I have seen scenes from it, and I know you guys will like it. I'm not just saying that. I think you guys really will. I have four scenes in that one, and one of those scenes is seriously kick ass. Then they are other scenes that are funny. Some of it is lighthearted. I hope it is good.

How much fun did you have finally turning into a vampire?

Jason Dohring: It was great, dude. It was thirteen episodes coming, and it was really cool. I got dressed for make-up, and they weren't ready for me for about four or five hours. So I went out around town with all of my make-up on. I looked like a drug addict. It was very funny. People looked at me like some really sick person. I looked like the type of person you wouldn't want to be approached by. It was fun to go out like that.

Have you read the series finale?

Jason Dohring: No. It is not out yet.

Are you satisfied with where your character is at in these last three episodes?

Jason Dohring: Yeah. Whatever they write is cool. They did one episode that went into the back-story of my character. I rather enjoyed that. I'd like to see me in some flashbacks. I'd rather show some of this stuff rather than just talk about it. I want to know what the party scene was like back then.

Have you found out how you became a vampire?

Jason Dohring: No. I don't know about that yet. But I know he is from some sort of good bloodline. Some sort of powerful thing.

Are they going to touch on that in the second season?

Jason Dohring: I hope so, bro. I think it is a great story. In episode twelve, when we had that stuff with Coraline, and we showed where she came from? I thought that was very fascinating. I think bloodlines are very interesting. You have to cross reference them, and you get to see who is more powerful. You get to see the different properties of various heritages. As far as my character goes, that's just something that hasn't ever been brought up. He definitely comes from a place with good genes.

Do you ever run into fans that think they are vampires or vampire hunters?

Jason Dohring: Dude, I've had people ask me, "Do you believe in vampires?" I say, "No." Then they really look at me and ask the question again, "Do you believe in vampires?" Then they show me their teeth. Some people are into that. I met a friend of Anne Rice's recently, out on the golf course funny enough. And he was telling me that the vampirism in her books is based on Leukemia. I think she had a son that died from that when he was three. The story is derived from that disease. I don't know if vampires are real. But it certainly is interesting. There is something about the human aspect of being immortal and more powerful than you think you are. People see that and it kind of turns them on. You watch a vampire movie, and suddenly you're going, "Yeah, I want to do that!" This has that kind of feel to it.

Would you like to see your character go to the lightside?

Jason Dohring: I don't think so. I think he is more interesting in that he does what he does. I think there will be moments where a lighter side will drop in. I think there was a time when he was almost like Mick. Then he dropped over the edge that Mick isn't over yet. He is keeping his morals and his life together. He is trying to make it work. Rightly or wrongly, I like to think in those terms.

After speaking with Jason, we moved into the Buzzwire offices, which were also right next door to Beth's beautiful beachside home. The inside looked like any average workspace with desks and cubicles set up throughout the room. Baby pictures and the occasional toy filled the many desks. Empty video boxes marked "Buzzwire" sat on faked out shelves, along with Buzzwire folders that contained nothing but empty paper. Beth's desk was mysteriously absent, but Beth was not. Actress Sophia Myles was waiting inside for a quick chat.

Myles plays the love interest on the show, Beth Turner. She is an intrepid Internet reporter that was rescued by Mick twenty-two years earlier. They have now formed a bond, and you can certainly feel the sexual tension in the air whenever they get together. Myles greeted us with a brand new haircut. Of course we had to discuss it:

SOPHIA MYLES

Are you going to incorporate your new shorter hairstyle into the series?

Sophia Myles: No, they haven't done that yet. I had extensions in my hair for the first half of the season. I have very fine hair, naturally. When I took the extensions out, it completely destroyed my hair. Note to any girls out there, don't start with any extensions. It is a recipe for disaster, especially if you have fine hair. I had to have the last extensions cut out. Now they are wigging me. They are still able to use the front bit of my hair. It is all fake. It is all Hollywood, baby.

Have you been surprised by the success of the show?

Sophia Myles: Yeah. When I came into this, I didn't have any expectations. Its blowing my mind how the show has had this snowball effect. It is really thrilling. The thing we love most about it is our fan base. They are giving blood to make people more aware of the show. That says something in and of itself. They are donating blood to the Red Cross to insure that CBS gives us a second season.

Did you go and give blood for the blood drive?

Sophia Myles: No, I haven't yet. I think its because we are foreigners. There is some law stating that we can't. I was definitely up for it, though.

Where would you like to see your character go in season two?

Sophia Myles: I don't know. It is really interesting. Sitting back and looking at it objectively, I don't see how there is a happy future for Beth. My advice for the girls out there? Do not get involved with a vampire. Because I know what it entails. A vampire and a mortal cannot conceive a child. She is going to age, he is not. I don't know if this is going to work. They are madly in love with each other. Hopefully that will take care of everything else. Right now, she is just starting to think of the realities of the situation. When it is a human and human relationship, you do get to that point where you want to know if there is a future. So I suspect that there will be some sort of ultimatum for these two at some point.

Are you opposed to being turned into a vampire yourself, or are you waiting until your thirties?

Sophia Myles: I don't know. I think it is an option that she will certainly think about. But she has to learn the realities of it. Mick hasn't given her any kind of solid commitment. If I am going to get turned into a vampire, I'd like to see a nice big diamond on my finger.
