Jason Dohring and Shannyn Sossamon move on to HBO

Speaking of new projects for our Moonlight cast..... Josef and Coraline have been hired to work on HBO, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Dohring, Burton, Sossamon and, Mescudi join casts

HBO is firming up the casts of its comedy pilots "Washingtonienne" and "How to Make It in America," adding Jason Dohring and Kate Burton to the former and Shannyn Sossamon and Scott Mescudi to the latter.

"Washingtonienne," based on Jessica Cutler's book, revolves around the professional and personal lives of three smart, sophisticated 28-year-old girls working on Capitol Hill.

Dohring will play Spencer, a senior legislative assistant for the same senator for whom Jackie (Rachel Taylor) works. Burton will play Joy, the senator's put-upon personal assistant.

Dohring ("Veronica Mars") is repped by Innovative Artists and manager Joel Stevens. Burton ("What Just Happened?") is repped by Gersh Agency and Principal Entertainment.

"America" centers on two enterprising downtown twentysomethings (Bryan Greenburg, Victor Rasuk) who hustle their way through New York determined to achieve the American Dream.

Sossamon will play Gingy, a gallery owner who is a close friend of the duo. Mescudi will play Domingo. Sossamon is repped by Paradigm.

Happy Birthday to Shannyn Sossamon

Today is the lovely Shannyn Sossamon's 30th birthday! In honor of that, I'm posting a great fan video created by the talented DarkRavyn. Knowing that he can never hope to win as a human battling a Vampire ~ a extremely powerful one at that ~ he still steps up to the challenge. As I said, I like the flair with which he stakes Lance's subordinate vamp. He may be temporarily mortal, but our boy has still got moves!

CBS releases video of Mick and Coraline fighting Lance in The Mortal Cure (episode #1x12)

CBS has released this video of Mick and Coraline fighting her brother, Lance, in The Mortal Cure (episode #1x12). This is a great fight scene! Even though Mick is human, he still jumps into the battle. I love how he stakes the minion vamp. He has the moves as a Vampire or human! Unfortunately, Lance is so strong. When he taunts Mick about wanting to be a mortal, it makes me wanna smack him myself. He is too arrogant! Jason Butler Harner does a good job with the villain role. Lance knows he can do whatever he wants with Coraline and Mick. Coraline surrenders to Lance to save Mick's life. I wouldn't want to trade places with her. I wonder if we will see Mick try to find and rescue her in the future.

Recap of Moonlight's episode tonight ~ The Mortal Cure (episode #1x12)

NO!!!!! It can't be over this fast. I think that every week..... but..... especially this week. :(

I wrote so many spoilers this week, my recap is pretty much done already. Ha! I definitely need to watch the show again. How do they pack every episode so full?!? I can not think of any other tv series we watch that makes me feel like I got my money's worth as Moonlight does.

Did you notice that the script was completely changed as to the identity of Celeste?! Now, she was the jewelry helping Josh with Beth's ring. Hmmmmm.... I wonder if they decided the episode had enough emotional drama, or just not to go down that road period. Our show dramatic enough already?! No way! *wink* Several have speculated that they wanted to use the storyline in future episodes & that it may pop back up. I'm on board with whatever they do as long as it means there are more seasons & episodes! :)

Side note ~ did anyone else think that was pretty personal service? My jeweler doesn't meet me for dinner.

Mick still tries to reach out to Beth. He is so sweet. I know she is grieving and feeling guilty because of her emotional affair with Mick, but I hated how cold she was to his attempt. "You did everything humanly possible."

Laughed when Coraline's friend, Cynthia, and Mick are sniffing each other through the hotel room door.

Josef is back ~ and he forgot his shirt! YEA! Mmmmmm.... All the boys on Moonlight are so hunky. Josef was just trying to help Mick relieve some stress by offering him a willing freshie massage. :>

Beth finally comes to Mick. How tender did he sound when he said "Come here" to her. As usual, Alex conveys so much with just two words, his expression and body language.

She doesn't know what her answer would have been to Josh asking her to marry him. Accepting that may have been what allowed her to seek out Mick.

Mick wants to be human so badly. The look of hope & excitement on his face when Coraline gives him the "cure." We knew he hated being a vamp, but that look really brought it home. Human again, if only for a brief time, after 55 years. Can't even imagine!

Jason Butler Harner was scary good as Lance. I wouldn't want to be on his bad side!

Lance's hand immediately healed when burned. As I wrote previously, I think we now know how Coraline survived the fire.

Coraline turned Mick without permission and then stole the "cure" for him ~ both brought on the family wrath. Lance is so invincible & he is the errand boy for whoever he's taking her to ~ yikes! I would not want to be Coraline. She surrendered to this scary fate in exchange for Lance not killing Mick.

While watching this, I wondered if a future episode might revolve around Mick trying to rescue Coraline.

Why is Beth wearing Josh's engagement ring? Hopefully, it was just a sign of respect. If I were her, I would return it to his family since it was his grandmother's ring.

"Are you human?" Even with the pain, it feels amazing to Mick.

Mick tells Beth Coraline is gone ~ that it is over ~ and was never meant to be. Beth says she knows what he means. Yet....

Video #1 ~ Josef is back... and shirtless! He is getting a freshie massage when Mick arrives looking for assistance. Josef advises him to "let the old vamps duke this out." We know that is not gonna happen. Again, the subject of Lance catching on fire and immediately regenerating comes up. As I said before, that may be how Coraline was able to survive the fire Mick set.

Video #2 ~ Mick and Coraline in his apartment ~ Beth has obviously just left. Coraline says "I think Beth is starting to like me. She didn't stab me this time." hahaha! They discuss Mick saving her from Lance AND him burning her alive. Coraline tells Mick she needs to get out of town. Then, she asks him to come with her. He is not leaving! Mick tries to get the cure info. Ooooo.... I also laughed at the way Alex says his line "you ate food!"

Just wanna warn you again....... Major Spoilers Ahead :)

I gave you scoop on the temporary "cure," French Revolution, etc in an earlier post. This time.... For those who asked about the feelings Mick & Coraline reveal in the season finale. The true nature of their relationship has been the subject of great debate, to put it mildly. Some argue they did/do love one another, others say never, more messages say it was only lust, or assert that Coraline is nothing but pure evil. Whew!

In The Mortal Cure, Coraline does give Mick a small kiss on the lips after giving him the "cure."

Coraline's brother, Lance, is hunting her. Where he plans to deliver her is not a pleasant destination. When he corners her the first time, Mick is looking on. Instead of allowing Coraline to be taken, Mick intervenes... and is beaten badly by the much older & more powerful vamp. Later, he comes to her rescue again by fighting Lance WHILE HE IS HUMAN. Not good for our Mick. :( It is obvious that he is on the verge of being killed. While her brother is distracted by Mick, Coraline has the opportunity to get away. Instead, she surrenders herself in exchange for Lance not murdering Mick. As she does so, she says that whoever sent her brother will kill her... but Lance has no mercy. Coraline trades her life for Mick's.

As for Beth, she discovers that Josh was keeping a secret from her. While she is sifting through his personal effects, she finds info about another woman. She thinks that Josh was having an affair & decides to confront the woman. It turns out to be a business relationship only. Celeste is a jeweler. From her, Beth learns that Josh planned to propose.

These promo photos are from Moonlight's next episode ~ The Mortal Cure (#1x12). Mick and Coraline in Vampire mode. In Sleeping Beauty (episode #1x10), Coraline disappeared from the hospital ~ with the help of an old friend ~ leaving Mick to wonder how she became human again.... and if he would ever find out. They are reunited in The Mortal Cure. From the title of this episode, you have probably guessed that she shares her secret with him ~ the temporary cure, which is linked to the French Revolution. The French royal family were all Vampires. During the Reign of Terror, they used the cure to pass as human & avoid being killed. Mick will see what it means to be human again. No vamp abilities to help him in difficult situations.

There will be tremendous fights with an old, powerful Vampyre.... unlike any Mick has encountered in previous episodes. The script says "We haven't seen Mick get his ass kicked like this before." :( The vamp turns out to be Coraline's brother. He has been tracking her. The result of the final fight scene reveals more about Mick and Coraline's feelings for each other.

Extra Goes Behind the Scenes with Shannyn Sossamon

Extra has a new behind the scenes video with Shannyn Sossamon on the set of Moonlight. You will notice that when they visited, The Mortal Cure (episode #1x12) was being filmed. They talk to her about our show, as well as her new horror flick One Missed Call. The movie opens tomorrow ~ Friday, January 4th, 2008.

Shannyn Sossamon starring in new film ~ One Missed Call

Shannyn Sossamon (Coraline to Moonlight fans) has a new movie coming out this Friday. One Missed Call is a remake of a Japanese horror flick. Shannyn stars as Beth Raymond. (How funny that her character is named Beth) The premise of the film is that people receive a message on cell phone that details the scary final moment of their life just days before they die.

Ed Burns co-stars in the movie as police detective, Jack Andrews. He worked with Shannyn previously in the film The Holiday...... in which Alex O'Loughlin also had a brief part. Small world! Alex is part of the kissing couple in the opening scene.

Sci Fi Wire talks to Shannyn Sossamon

Sci Fi Wire is the SciFi Channel's news service. Their reporter, Cindy White, had the opportunity to talk to Coraline about Moonlight. Shannyn was actually out promoting her new movie, One Missed Call. I'm glad she took time to chat about our show too. Still no news about Moonlight being officially renewed. :(

"I think there are too many procedural elements in the show," Shannyn Sossamon said in an interview while promoting her latest film, One Missed Call. "I don't think any of the audience members are sitting at home going, 'Gosh, I wonder what case Mick St. John's going to have this week? I'm so curious.' No, you care about the other stuff."

Sossamon revealed that the mystery of how her character became mortal will be explained before the season is over. "[I'd like to see them] kind of go back into different time periods more," Sossamon added. "Go back into the history. I love the drama of the vampire world. I love the aesthetic of it, and so [I'd like to there] to be more that than the procedural element of the show."

Sossamon said that she is still waiting for word on whether the show will even be brought back once the strike is over. "I'm playing it by the day," she said. "[CBS president] Nina Tasser hasn't given us any more information. ... CBS is the only network that hasn't said what they're going to do, with their green-lighting or whatever it's called, picking [it] up."

Moonlight will return with the first of the two remaining original episodes on Jan. 4, 2008, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Sophia & Shannyn at P.S. I Love You Movie Premiere

Sophia Myles and Shannyn Sossamon attended the movie premiere for the new Hilary Swank film, P.S. I Love You. The flick also stars Gerard Butler, Harry Connick Jr, Gina Gershon and Lisa Kudrow. These are great photos of our girls from the red carpet at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. You know the reporters and photographers can not resist these two beautiful women. A little more publicity for Moonlight! It is good to know that our cast like each other enough to hang out after spending 18 hours a day working together ~ Shannyn & Sophia at the movies, Alex & Jason in Australia for New Year's Eve. :) Do you want to spend that kinda time with the guy in the office next to you?!!?? ha!

CBS releases another Moonlight video ~ from Fleur De Lis (episode #1x09)

CBS has released another Moonlight video! I like to see that they are aware enough of our thirst for more that they did so. This video is of the action packed sequence when Mick saves his client, Mr Haggans, from his would be killers and also Morgan/Coraline in Fleur De Lis (episode #1x09). Busy boy! It includes several of my fave moments..... Mick lifting the assistant off his feet with one hand, "you take the elevator" jumping down several flights of stairs, knocking out the creepy son with one punch, leaping high in the air while saving Morgan "and they say Jordan had air," too much fun!

iF Magazine Interviews Shannyn Sossamon ~ Part 2

Sean, from iF Magazine, has published part 2 of his great interview with Shannyn Sossamon. I like how candid she is too. It must run in this cast.

iF Magazine :

Has anyone discussed post writers strike where the storylines may be going?

SOSSAMON :

No, I actually don’t think anyone has had that discussion yet. We’re about to shoot twelve right now. Twelve is amazing and it brings the audience back in time to the history of my family and then gets into a little of where Josef is from. We’re going to shoot that and then no one dies and it’s pretty open ended. Beyond that, there were four more episodes purchased, and those aren’t written yet. So once we finish twelve, we’re done because of the strike. Then when we come back and we have the four, and then we wait to get really picked up!

iF Magazine :

Well, MOONLIGHT has a strong fan base and the ratings have been good so I have a feeling that your show will be back. .

SOSSAMON :

Aww good! I love Alex [O’Loughlin] and Sophia [Myles] so much and I love everyone on the show including [Producer] Joel [Silver] is just a neat man and I adore him. It feels like a family on set. The make-up and hair people, the creative teams behind the show, the cinematographer Marvin; everyone has really held this show up. They’ve believed in it every day and they won’t let it go. No matter what kind of drama is going on, and all of the times that some shows would’ve stopped trying; no one on MOONLIGHT has stopped trying, especially Alex he’s just great.

iF Magazine :

In terms of Coraline from vampire to human are we going to get the full back story of how she did that?

SOSSAMON :

Oh yeah, you’ll get the whole thing in twelve and it makes sense. Not only does it make sense, but also they came up with a really great way to explain it. It’s not fun when you’re playing the role when you don’t know how the heck she did it, and now that I do it’s cool; at the time I didn’t know how my character had changed.

iF Magazine :

You obviously can't approach Coraline and play her just as evil, so what’s the trick to finding the reality of this character?

SOSSAMON :

In this episode I get to be a vampire so I didn’t have to be Morgan, I got to be Coraline. In episode ten I got stabbed and was in the hospital and I escaped and no one knew where she was. Now, I just get to play Coraline for twelve and I’m excited about that because I want to get to know her and have the audiences get to know her. It’s not me having to act out the crazy love, or the crazy love elements; it’s just absolutely real. I think a lot of her history is going to come out. When she’s not playing to Mick and she’s put that to rest for a moment, I think she’s got more depth and is much more intense and fierce. We’ve really never seen her when she’s not playing to Mick and to their deranged love. Who was he before she met him, was she always doing this with men? I think Corlaine was always in love with Mick, in a way that is not healthy, and that’s a deep connection that will always be there. Now she’s going to have to learn how to handle things not working out. Whenever he stands next to her, I think it’s for her not to have him going along with her plans. He tests her.

iF Magazine :

What would you think if in the future they did episodes just featuring the different vampires for an episode instead of Mick?

SOSSAMON :

I think if they took some more risks with the characters that people would love it, but there is always a procedural element of something that has to be figured out in every episode. I think Mick will always be a part of the stories even if it is more Josef heavy or Coraline heavy or Beth heavy. So far, they’ve stuck to that, but I think it would be a great idea. I bet Alex would like it too, so he could at least have a little bit of a break. They could really make it interesting and make it more dramatic. I certainly think the audience of this show isn’t watching each week to see what the procedural for the week is going to be. I think they watch it for the drama. They love Mick and Beth and the tension between them, and I think they’re responding well to Coraline. Even if people hate her, people need to be rooting for something to happen. I think even if they are reacting against Mick and Coraline, then I’m doing my job and they should root against it.

Fan Video ~ Mick St John, Beth Turner & Coraline Duvall Love Triangle

iF Magazine Interviews Shannyn Sossamon ~ Part 1

To keep us going through this long Moonlight break, iF magazine is doing new interviews with the cast of our show. *cheer* Sean let me know about his recent chat with Shannyn Sossamon. This is part 1.

I like Shannyn asking Sean what he thinks about her character. That shows she wants to know what the fan's reaction is to her portrayal. His answer is spot on, "The bottom line with her is that she is an ancient vampire, even if she turned herself human in the present, she doesn’t have the same concepts of right and wrong that our society has today. She has different boundaries and she’s not really evil; she does what she thinks is right and almost everything she does is out of love for Mick, even if it is not a healthy kind of relationship."

It is great to hear what she thinks about Coraline and some of the behind the scenes decisions.

Shannyn Sossamon :

Of course, all of the things with Coraline, to be perfectly honest I didn’t know which direction it was going to go. When we first started filming the show it was unclear; the only thing that was clear was Mick St John’s character and his relationship with Beth was pretty clear. Coraline and her role was sort of unclear, but they knew they needed a character that would trouble with that relationship. Also, to make him a vampire in that way made it interesting and sexy.

Shannyn also confirms what we already know, Moonlight means so much to Alex and he is involved in everything!

iF Magazine :

....when you were cast, you knew about the flashbacks with Coraline. Then from that point things changed and did you know how they were going to bring her into the present?

Shannyn Sossamon :

The possibility that she was going to come into the present was always there. Did I know that they were going to the story with Morgan? No. I never knew how evil they might write her. I never knew how much she was going to try to mess up Mick’s life; it truly was as up in the air as any character could be. The only thing that was certain was that my character had made Mick a vampire on our wedding night, and then in the 1980’s she was left in a burning hotel room to die because she had kidnapped a little girl to turn her into a vampire for the ‘family’. Then of course that girl was a young Beth. So they needed all of that to secure the story for Mick and Beth for that central relationship. That was all that anyone knew about Coraline, so everything since then has been per discussions with all of us. Alex [O’Loughlin] has been really involved in the vampire elements so that it’s not just a procedural show. They all want it to have the depth of the vampire world and where they come from and all of the history. That stuff makes it yummy to watch, because procedural gets boring after awhile and there are so many of them on TV.

Interesting...... Alex has said in many interviews that he is not attracted to doing a procedural drama. Shannyn says the same thing here.

iF Magazine :

I know from talking to Alex, that in future episodes we’ll get to see more of Coraline and Josef’s past and see the even older vamps. How much of that are you actors told before hand and how much do you just discover when you get the scripts?

Shannyn Sossamon :

It’s about fifty-fifty, because there have been times where I’ve had discussions with the show runners and then I get a script and it’s in there. I’m always surprised that they stuck with what was discussed. I know Alex is really involved, incredibly involved, in where it’s going and he wants answers and wants to know where it’s going. So, no one is really just waiting for the scripts. I get in there a lot, because I was never fond of the uncertainty at the beginning of what exactly I was getting into. I was constantly asking questions about what was happening now and if I was playing in a certain episode I asked questions about how everything connect so that it all made sense. I wanted to create a performance that if it were a feature film it would make sense; otherwise it’s just confusing. The Morgan storyline threw me for a loop a little bit, but it was fun.
