Gone are "Cane," "Jericho," "Kid Nation," "Moonlight," "Shark," "Viva Laughlin" and "Welcome to the Captain."
Tassler said she’s bracing for the onslaught of “Moonlight” supporters, but added she learned a lot from her recent “Jericho” experience: Bringing back a show because of a rabid fan campaign doesn’t necessarily mean the ratings will follow.

Media Rights Capital programming CW's Sunday night lineup
I've received messages from several of you who are upset because the CW announced its Fall schedule, and Moonlight is not on it. No worries! At the upfronts, they only revealed what will air from Monday to Friday. The possible deal for Moonlight is for Sunday night, which is being programmed by Media Rights Capital not the network itself. MRC has not announced what shows they will offer in the two hour block on Sunday nights this Fall. Rumor has it that Moonlight is in the running for a spot.
Moonlight would instantly give them a huge hit with our ratings of around 8 million each week. That is why we have been contacting MRC, CW & WB to let them know that we will follow our show!
To give you an idea, here are the viewer numbers for CW shows last week..... Smallville 3.96 million, Beauty and the Geek 1.63 million, Reaper 2.47 million, Gossip Girl 2.11 million, One Tree Hill 2.20 million and Supernatural 2.53 million.
According to an article in Media Week, one of the reasons the CW partnered with MRC is "Season-to-date, female 18-34 ratings on Sunday nights on the CW are down 54 percent compared to last season." We all know that Moonlight would give them an ENORMOUS female audience with ease :)

Could the CW be Moonlight's new home?
A bit more info I've been digging up...... Nikki, from Deadline Hollywood Daily, has said there is a CHANCE that Moonlight could be picked up by the CW network. Specifically, by Media Rights Capital which the CW has partnered with to program their Sunday night lineup. The network's sitcoms "Everbody Hates Chris" & "The Game" are moving from Sunday to Friday night. That is due to the CW's current Friday night show "SmackDown" moving to MyNetworkTV.
We need to continue telling Warner Bros that we will follow Moonlight no matter where it airs. Also, let's reassure the CW/Media Rights Capital that they will have an instant hit on their hands. Even with all the promotion and controversy surrounding CW's series, Gossip Girl, our show easily has double the ratings!

Campaign to move Moonlight to another network

As I have said, my loyalty is to Moonlight.... not to CBS. I will watch Moonlight no matter when or where it airs! Let's campaign to move our show to another network. A new home that will appreciate it. Since Warner Bros Television owns & produces Moonlight, they can sell it to any network. We need to urge them to shop it around. At the same time, we should encourage other television networks to pick up what CBS has shortsightedly dropped. FX seems like a great fit to me. Alex O'Loughlin is already known there from his great role as Det Kevin Hiatt on The Shield :) Of course, we are open to ANY tv network that is smart enough to pounce on Moonlight.

As we know, Alex O'Loughlin is currently on vacation. He said he was taking the summer off ~ having turned down several film roles because of the unknown future of Moonlight. Thanks for making him miss out on other work CBS! Grrrrrrr...... Sorry, I was distracted there for a moment. It just makes me angry that the network treated our amazing cast the way they did. A third-season renewal of "Mother," from 20th Century Fox TV, was never really in doubt, given its buzzworthy status and its ratings momentum during the past two months since its post-strike return. "Old Christine" was on the fence for a while, and ABC let it be known that if CBS were to pass on a third season the Julia Louis-Dreyfus starrer it would nab the Warner Bros. TV show.
"Rules of Engagement," from Sony Pictures TV, was also a fence-sitter but is known to have its fans at the Eye. "The Unit," from 20th Century Fox TV, is seen as a durable performer that has done respectable business wherever it has run. In fact, the delay in the renewal of "Unit" was something of a surprise.
"Moonlight," meanwhile, was done in by a combination of factors. It's understood that Eye execs were not impressed with the show's creative development, and there was much drama and turnover behind the scenes among producers and scribes. The final straw was the show's middling ratings perf during the past few weeks after its post-strike return.
CBS execs declined comment on any of its pickup news Tuesday. Eye presents its 2008-09 lineup on Wednesday at Carnegie Hall.

Seat42f says Moonlight may return for midseason
Seat42f is reporting rumors that even if Moonlight is not on CBS' Fall schedule, it could be a midseason show.

Got some Moonlight intel I wanted to share with you guys. It looks like as of right now Moonlight is not on the fall schedule and is not in the plans for pickup. AS OF RIGHT NOW. It appears CBS and Warner Brothers are still trying to hammer out a deal for midseason so the show is not dead just yet. HOWEVER, An EARLY look at the CBS schedule has The Unit moving to Friday's at 9:00PM taking over Moonlight's slot. Like everything else upfront related this is all speculation at this point as CBS fine- tunes their 2008 - 2009 schedule. A lot could change over the next 24 hours. I will update you when I know more.

Primetime Pilot Panic: 'Moonlight' Not On CBS Fall Schedule But Not Dead; Show Lobbying For Back 13-Episode Order
The news just came in to me from my sources.... "They're fighting for a back 13, but Moonlight is definitely not on the fall schedule. But it's not dead, either. Insiders tell me the sticking point is money: that CBS wants Warner Bros to "step up" more financially. But WBTV is saying back to CBS that the network has to step up as well, even though CBS doesn't own the show. Here's what I can tell you about the behind-the-scenes:
Moonlight has been fraught with problems (see below). But CBS' Nina tassler told the producers that she was "very happy" with the direction of the series. The show pitched her the stories for all next season, "and Nina loved them". And then CBS gave the show its list of what the network wanted. But CBS made clear that the renewal of the show was "all going to be dependent on making the last four shows of this season ratings-wise. Well, those ratings were only fair. They didn't win the night, but they won their demos. On the other hand, Friday's ratings are always low. But the real story is, as usual in Hollywood, all about the money. Even though comparatively Moonlight is being done on the cheap (especially when put up against another WBTV show, Pushing Daisies on ABC, which is a notoriously expensive production), and was picked up in the beginning by CBS for a relatively low licensing fee, CBS now wants Warner Bros to pick up more of the tab. There was a specific conversation between the two Big Media outfits about this on Wednesday of last week. "We need you to step up," CBS reportedly told WB. To which WB responded to CBS, "You step up, and we'll step up." Interestingly, I hear that CBS just ordered to series the pilots The Mentalist and 11th hour which both have higher licensing fees than Moonlight. But the producers knew all along that their series was "on the bubble," so to speak. And in response to communication pushing the network to pick up Moonlight, I understand that CBS responded to the effect, "Where's WB? Why won't they step up?"
Meanwhile, there have been other problems. Coming back from the writers strike, the executive producer and showrunner Chip Johanssen was cut loose, despite being a close friend of Tassler’s. Also, series creator Ron Koslow was shown the door after the picket signs went down. That left no official showrunners in place to guide the episodes produced after the strike ended. Husband and wife writers / producers Harry Werksman and Gabrielle Stanton were informally given the reins, and they supervised the most recent four shows ending the season. The question is whether they are up to the task. I hear the Moonlight producers offered to change showrunners to get a CBS renewal. Already, the fallout has led one of the few surviving players, staff writer and producer Jill Blotevogel, to be unceremoniously dumped before any renewal is announced. There's a rumor which I haven't confirmed that, if CBS does renew, it may bring the showrunners from the expected-to-be-cancelled Shark to come in and retool Moonlight.

More speculation about Moonlight's future
E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos and TV Guide's Michael Ausiello are also speculating about Moonlight's chances for renewal. This always happens during the upfronts. Everyone tries to guess and scoop ahead of time. It's an emotional roller coaster ride! The networks enjoy the attention the "will they or won't they" speculation brings to their shows.
It is hard to deal with, but comes with the territory unfortunately. I just can not believe that CBS would be insane enough to let go of Moonlight, its loyal & amazing fans and Alex O'Loughlin!

Moonlight: I'm Staying Firmly in Denial Until Wednesday, But...
Frik! Frak! And darn it all, too.
Don't freak out yet, but the word on Moonlight is suddenly trending negative.
My personal favorite Moonlight source just informed me of rumblings that the show was not looking good for a season-two pickup.
Sadly, Variety's Cynthia Littleton (who is a crackerjack reporter of the highest order) is saying the same thing. In particular, Cynthia reports, "CBS is high on a bunch of its drama pilots this year (no surprise there), and thus, there may not be room on the Eye's sked for more Moonlight next season."
Now, nothing is official until Wednesday, when CBS presents its 2008-09 slate to advertisers, so no need to panic yet, but I thought you guys would want to know the word on the street, for better or for worse.

Michael Ausiello has heard rumors that CBS will renew The Unit and give it Moonlight's time slot. As we've been discussing, this is all just speculation. Plus, the network could simply move Moonlight to another night too... maybe a better night.

Frik! Frak! And darn it all, too.
Don't freak out yet, but the word on Moonlight is suddenly trending negative.
My personal favorite Moonlight source just informed me of rumblings that the show was not looking good for a season-two pickup.
Sadly, Variety's Cynthia Littleton (who is a crackerjack reporter of the highest order) is saying the same thing. In particular, Cynthia reports, "CBS is high on a bunch of its drama pilots this year (no surprise there), and thus, there may not be room on the Eye's sked for more Moonlight next season."
Now, nothing is official until Wednesday, when CBS presents its 2008-09 slate to advertisers, so no need to panic yet, but I thought you guys would want to know the word on the street, for better or for worse.

Michael Ausiello has heard rumors that CBS will renew The Unit and give it Moonlight's time slot. As we've been discussing, this is all just speculation. Plus, the network could simply move Moonlight to another night too... maybe a better night.

Variety speculates about Moonlight's future
The CBS presentations for their Fall tv season is not until Wednesday. However, Variety is trying to predict whether Moonlight will be picked up or not. Until we hear news about our show directly from CBS, it is all just speculation!

According to Sci Fi Wire's new interview with Jason Dohring, Moonlight's season will end with a cliffhanger after all. Hmmmm......

Jason Dohring, who plays the 400-year-old vampire Josef in CBS' vampire drama Moonlight, told SCI FI Wire that the first-season finale will end with a cliffhanger. (Spoilers ahead!)
"You'll see a lot more of the vampire mythology coming up, but in the final show, you'll see us all kind of meet," Dohring said in an interview. "We have, like, a vampire conference. It's really cool. And we each kind of have our place."
Dohring explained that the vampire community will be forced to come together when it finds itself at risk of being exposed.
"We all get together to solve one problem, which is the threat to secrecy, basically a threat to survival, and that gets sort of complicated," Dohring said. "I think all the vampires are sort of involved, because it's something that's going on with all of them. You'll have to watch to see what's going on with that, but it basically poses quite a little problem for all of us. "
The cast and crew are still awaiting word from CBS as to whether the show will be renewed for a second season. Stars Alex O'Loughlin and Sophia Myles have already expressed their optimism about the possibility of a pickup. Dohring agreed with that sentiment.
"We have some momentum going," the former Veronica Mars star said. "I really feel it. Like, particularly in the last couple weeks since we've been doing all this promotion for the show. I feel like it's really swinging in our favor. I think that some promising things could happen. We're creating good shows, and I think if we can just get people to see them, then they'll hang around."
Dohring has additional incentive to hope for a renewal, having heard some of the ideas the writers are working on for the second season.
"[Producer Joel Silver] took us out to dinner, and we kind of pumped the writers for stories and what's going on," Dohring said. "There's going to be some cool stuff. There's going to be some historical events that went down that were shaped by vampires. You know what I mean? I'm looking forward to that. Like, big, huge things that you learn in your first year of school that were vampire-influenced."
And will his character be a part of those events?
"Hell, yeah," Dohring said. "I've been alive a long time."

Matt Roush says Moonlight deserves chance to grow
TV Guide's Matt Roush has reviewed Moonlight & Reaper previously. He decided to revisit each show now that they are airing the rest of this season's episodes. In his opinion, our show should be given the opportunity to continue growing!
Scary Times for Cult Horror Shows
In the world of supernatural TV, anything’s possible: a sexy vampire, a dapper Devil. Anything, perhaps, except overcoming so-so ratings and a creatively uneven first year. Two purely escapist series, CBS’ vampire mystery Moonlight and the CW’s satanic comedy Reaper, are on the bubble for renewal (their fates are announced the week of May 12 during the networks’ up-front presentations). While neither is likely to become a genre classic of Buffy or X-Files status, both deserve a chance to keep going and growing.
Moonlight in particular enjoys buzz from fans smitten by Mick St. John, a dashing private-eye vampire (Alex O’Loughlin) who bares his chest more often than his fangs. Overcoming a dreary pilot stuffed with noir clichés, Moonlight quickly developed into a sizzling romance between Mick and Beth (Sophia Myles), a reporter who seems to crave the immortality he has come to despise.
An awful lot of daylight pervades Moonlight, which loves sending up old-school vampire myths as it goes about solving otherwise routine cases. (The sun isn’t good for vampires, but doesn’t instantly kill them, and so on.) There’s a complicated backstory, naturally, and a very expendable supporting cast — not counting Veronica Mars’ Jason Dohring as Josef, Mick’s eternally boyish and ridiculously wealthy mentor. What really matters here is watching Mick wrestle with his demons and desires.
“Maybe love can’t exist without mortality,” suggests the ex who turned Mick undead decades ago, and who introduced him to a cure that made him temporarily human. (Mick on the beach! Swoon!)
Unlike Moonlight, the CW’s Reaper launched with a terrific pilot, featuring Sam (Bret Harrison), an underachiever forced to become bounty hunter for the playfully manipulative Devil (the hilarious Ray Wise). But it collapsed almost instantly, unable to eke out many eeks or laughs on a weekly basis. The missions and demons weren’t scary, and Sam, though charming, proved to be an awfully passive hero. If not for the Devil and Sam’s slovenly pal Sock (Tyler Labine), Reaper was a literal sleeper.
Only recently has the show found its way, opting for twisted romantic comedy — was Sam dating the Devil’s daughter? — over soul-catching, while drawing Sam into an underground rebellion to overthrow the Devil, led by gay demon neighbors (amusingly played by Michael Ian Black and Ken Marino).
The Devil made me like Reaper, but he’s now not the only draw. Too little too late? We’ll soon see.

TV by the Numbers talks about Moonlight's ratings
Robert Seidman, from TV by the Numbers, has written an informative column regarding Moonlight's ratings. He speculates about what CBS may be thinking &/or concerned with in terms of picking up our show for its second season.
Nielsen Ratings Friday May 2, 2008: CBS and Moonlight Are Consistent
CBS took another Friday night during May sweeps and the week looks pretty much similar to last week across the board except that ABC ran an extra 20/20 instead of America’s Funniest Home Videos. And FOX was again dead last, beaten out by the CW and its outgoing WWE product, Friday Night Smackdown! The CW’s loss will be MyNetTV’s gain.
Only CBS had any shows with a 2.0 or better in the 18-49 demographic. Ghost Whisperer (2.3/8), Moonlight (2.1/6) and Numb3rs (2.4/7) all cleared the 2.0 bar. No other shows did. Technically the 10pm hour of Dateline hit 2.0, but if you take Dateline over its full 9p-11p run, it didn’t.
While not quite as awful as Saturdays its getting there other than CBS. Sure, more younger people aren’t at home on Fridays, but the reason the shows other than CBS don’t pull better demo numbers is the programming.
I know Marc Berman didn’t have glowing things to say about on the bubble Moonlight (hey, at least he didn’t call it a “loser”!). The thing Moonlight probably has going for it is fairly remarkable consistency among its fan base. A four month hiatus didn’t cause a drop of 2 million viewers. If that had happened we’d be writing the obituary already. But the fans all came back. It beat everything it was up against on broadcast television and won the 18-49 demo for its timeslot. Just like last week. These are all positive signs.
The only thing that should really concern Moonlight fans is CBS thinking something like this, “OK, no matter what we stick on at 9pm it loses a million viewers from 8pm and all of them and more come back at 10pm. Can we put something on at 9pm that will perform as well as Moonlight and be cheaper?”
I’m hampered by not knowing the cost of producing Moonlight. I know they could stick on The Price is Right and it would probably do fairly consistently in viewers, but at least a little worse than Moonlight in the demographic. But you can’t really syndicate repeats of game shows, or sell DVDs of game shows. You can with scripted dramas and that winds up meaning extra revenue.
So the only way I see CBS pulling the plug on Moonlight is if they think they have a scripted drama that will perform as well or better that can be made for less money. I’m more of a “a bird in the hand…” guy, but we’ll have to wait just a little bit longer to see if CBS thinks as reasonably as I do.

Sophia Myles would bet her money on Moonlight being renewed
SciFi Wire interviewed Sophia Myles at Fangoria's convention. Good news.... she is very positive about the chances of CBS picking up Moonlight for another season! *cheer* Sophia also has kind, thankful words for fans ~ crediting us with helping to get that second season. So sweet! One thing she said made me giggle. She says her hope is to portray Beth in such a way that female fans can picture themselves in her shoes. We definitely wanna be in her place ;> Love Sophia's feisty sense of humor about how to get men to watch Moonlight. AND, I think she is right! hehehe.....
Myles Sure CBS to Renew Moonlight

Sophia Myles, who plays the mortal love interest of vampire detective Mick St. John on the CBS series Moonlight, told SCI FI Wire that she believes the show will be picked up for a second season thanks to the efforts of fans, who have been donating blood and mailing garlic to network executives to show their support.
"One of the biggest pleasures of working on this show is the fan base, because we have the most wonderful fans in the world," Myles said in an interview before appearing in a panel at Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors in Los Angeles over the weekend. "And it kind of makes it all worthwhile knowing that there's a whole bunch of people whose hearts you're moving every Friday night and you're giving them something to look forward to. And we view them as part of the extended Moonlight family, and there wouldn't be a show without them."
Myles said that a second-season pickup is all but confirmed. "I'd put pretty much all of the money I have in my bank account on the fact that we will get picked up," the British actress said. "I think that's largely to do with the amount of fan support and dedication."
Myles' character, Internet journalist Beth Turner, discovered at the beginning of the first season that it was Mick who rescued her when she was kidnapped as a child (by his vampire ex-wife). Since then, she's struggled with her romantic feelings for Mick, her knowledge of the vampire world and the deaths of her human boyfriend and boss. Myles said that she views Beth as a surrogate for the female members of the audience, a responsibility she takes seriously.
"There's a lot of life change that's happened to her," Myles said of her character. "And it's been very, very interesting to play. I mean, I try and play her as I see her, [a] very pure, very honest soul. And I tried to play it in such a way that the female audience who are watching it can imagine themselves standing in my shoes and really live the love story through me. I kind of use myself as a vessel for that."
Although the show's fan base is predominantly women, Myles offered a way to attract male viewers to the show as well: "If the gentlemen sit down with their wives and watch, then they might get lucky over the weekend," she said. "Hopefully, on that very night. So, guys, tune in, because you're going to get lucky."
