Kandye's puppy tale

It has been rainy and overcast in the city due to the edges of the hurricane. That causes night to fall early. It was becoming heavy twilight when Tommmmmmy dashed off to grab our dinner before True Blood tonight. As he approached a busy intersection (4 lanes on all sides ~ crossed by railroad tracks), he noticed cars swerving and slamming on their brakes. Accident? Crazy driver? No.... a small, dark figure cowered in the middle of traffic.

Inching first one way and then the other, but never reaching safety. A confused puppy faltered while cars honked, skidded and sped around him. My sweet Tommmmmy swooped to his rescue! He threw on the emergency brake & jumped out into the street. Other thoughtful drivers stopped to block the traffic in each direction so that he could reach the frightened puppy without being hit himself. There were many smiles of relief. One lady rolled down her window just to yell thanks!

No momma dog or other pups to be found.

Once they were finally safe in the warm, dry truck, Tommmmy called me. When I answered, the first thing he said was ~ "We have a new addition to our family!"

I want to introduce you all to Jasper :) We do not know what kinda dog he is, aside from adorable. Any ideas? Click on the photos above for a closer look.

Update ~ Monday, September 15th, 2008 ~ I can not believe how many wonderful comments, emails & text messages we've received about Jasper. You guys are the best :) When I first saw Jasper, I said he looked like a Pit Bull mix.... but everyone disagreed with me. Many of you have backed me up in your guesses about what type of dog you think he is ~ thank you!

We took our little guy to the vet today. Check up time! Everyone at the office fell for him, including the doctor & his assistant. Not that I'm bragging or anything *wink* Oooooooo..... by the way..... they think he could be a Pit mix also. But, the doc came up with the possibility of Jasper being part Chihuahua because of his "dome."

He didn't even flinch when the doc gave him a shot. Tough! They guessed that he is about 5 weeks old. He weighs a whopping 2 pounds (after eating ~ ha!). Jasper is spending the night at the vet's clinic for observation. I hope he doesn't think we abandoned him.

Awwwwww, he's so CUTE! I'm glad Tommy got him in time, that could have been disastrous for the poor thing. With the brindle color patterns of his coat, he seems like he might have some Pitt in him for sure. :) As for other things, you should posts pictures as he gets bigger. The older he gets, the easier it is to tell!

Stories like this make me cry with happiness! What a good guy Tommmmmy must be! Best of luck to both of you and your brindle colored new puppy Jasper-what a cutie! He is a lucky dog for sure!

Awww, wonderful Tommmmy! And Jasper is darling! I, too, think he might have some pit bull in him. Hope that doesn't deter you. Pits are very smart, loving and loyal dogs if not trained to fight thru abuse and neglect. And I know that you and Tommy have TONS of love to share with your adorable new family member! Best wishes!!!

Oohh Kandye he's gorgeous! It made me so sad to read that someone could leave such a little puppy to fend for itself like that... but I'm so pleased to hear that Tommy rescued the little critter!

As for the type of dog... I think there's a bit of the brindle colored Staffordshire Bull Terrier in there! Have a look at the pics at this website and see what you think:

He's adorable. Yay for puppy rescue. How could anyone just leave that cute little guy out in the middle of the street?

I've been watching True Blood too. I'm really liking it but am I the only one that finds the fangs silly?

Jasper is adorable- he couldn't ask for better 'parents'! Hey Bard girl, I really like Trueblood also and yes, I agree, the fangs are kinda hokey and that wierd clicking sound they make when they come out is funny too. BUT I like the chemistry between Bill and Sookie and HBO is promoting the heck out of the show- I think they actually like having Trueblood on their network, unlike the way the crap broadcasting sytem treated Moonlight.
