Australia ~ Who Spotlight Interview with Alex O'Loughlin

Annette Dasey has written a new piece, for Who Spotlight, that is part article and part interview with our Alex O'Loughlin. We already know the information, but every interview is worded differently ~ including one curse word in this one, that is not spelled out. *grin* Plus, we could never grow tired of Alex!

The magazine is featuring him because his film, August Rush, will have its Australian premiere on February 21st, 2008. I'm glad they published an Alex article to promote the movie.... and him :)

Click on the image above for a larger version. What a cute photo of Alex and Holly! I will also type out the interview for you here to make it easier to read.

Alex O'Loughlin ~ Holly's hottie steps up with two racy new roles
by Annette Dasey

Until a year ago, actor Alex O'Loughlin was, by his own admission, such a nobody in Los Angeles that he "couldn't get arrested." Living on baked beans and building work since arriving in 2005, his luck changed a year later when he met a certain starlet.

"I was helping a friend with a pergola and Holly [Valance] came over - they were mates," says ex-Sydneysider O'Loughlin, who is best known here for the 2004 film Oyster Farmer and 2005 miniseries The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant. "I was like, `She's so hot,` but she played it really cool. As it turned out, she was more of a fan than she let on."

The pair shacked up in Hollywood, where O'Loughlin was known for losing the James Bond role to Daniel Craig - "How gutted was I? I didn't think I was going to get it. It was a f--ing fantastic experience. I've held the gun!" - and (erroneous) reports that he is the son of AC/DC rocker Bon Scott. "My dad didn't care [about the rumours] but my mum was upset," says the 31 year old, whose father is a physics teacher and mother a nurse. "Being viewed as a charlatan worried her."

Then he landed a part in TV crime series The Shield and a supporting role in August Rush, a magical drama (opening on Feb. 21) starring Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Robin Williams, about an orphan who is sure his parents are alive. O'Loughlin, whose son Saxon, 10, is in Australia, and Rhys Meyers shared an apartment in New York while making the movie. "We'd work out and see bands," says O'Loughlin.

Nabbing the lead in vampire TV series Moonlight means O'Loughlin has less time with Holly : "We'd prefer to be together more. You want to be with someone you love, but you adapt."

O'Loughlin's ability to empathise with other people and roles is "quite astounding," says Tony Knight, NIDA's head of acting.

Wait...did that just say that Alex has a son?

Did I read that right - Alex has a son?

Did I read that correctly- Alex has a
10 year old son named Saxon? I hadn't read that anywhere before. Cool name for his kid!

Maybe I read it wrong, but does the article say Alex has a son???

That's certainly news to me...

So wait...how have we never heard anything about it before? I'm surprised we haven't heard that he has a son. Did you already know this, Kandye? I'm just a little surprised is all.

Wow -- I'm surprised that he has a 10-year old son - but not really!?!

Well, there is some confusion out there about his year of birth -- rightly so! There's always the thing that actors fudge their age. I've always suspected that he was a bit older than what is published online -- maybe 34 or 35. Now this theory seems to fit, sortof!

Kandye, I love your blog and the show and LOVE Alex!

Well to the above comment, he's actually said that he was born in '76, at least when he was interviewed by Leeser at Moonlight Line. Which means he's about 31, and will be 32 in August. So that would mean his son was born when he was around 21/22. It's really young, but believable ;)

After I read this Alex interview all that was going through my head was "Alex O'Loughlin has a son named Saxon Alex O'Loughlin has a son named Saxon Alex O'Loughlin has a son named Saxon Alex O'Loughlin has a son named Saxon Alex O'Loughlin has a son named Saxon!!!!!!" Finding out Alex has a ten year old son really did shock me. I guess I thought we would know something that is this big about his life.

I would like to know if Alex is a part of Saxon's life or did he just leave and put it all in Saxon mothers lap to do all the work? Does he love his child?

I think it is great that he has a son. So he was about 22 years old when Saxon was born, which mean someone else stoled his heart way before Holly. I am sure he is a great dad and very proud of his boy.

Saxon's mum should be very proud, too bad Her and Alex aren't together now. But then again who knows about the future.
It is kind of strange to think that Holly is only 13 or 14 years older that Saxon

When Alex said that Mick St John might have a son from his pre-vampire life (in what's left behind Moonlight episode #15), am I the only one who thought of finding out that Alex O'Loughlin himself has a 10 year old son (Saxon O'Loughlin) in real life?

You know we've all been excited by all the interviews, photo shoots, and etc that Alex O'Loughlin has been doing to promote Moonlight. It is great to see Alex anytime although we worry about him being so exhausted. Something else has occurred to me. How often does poor Saxon O'Loughlin get to talk to, let alone SEE IN PERSON, his dad???? Or the opposite, Alex not getting to do the same with his little son. That has got to be so hard for both father & son. It makes me sad. We've all read Alex's interviews where he says he works 18 to 20 hours a day and barely sees his friends & family there in Los Angeles. Saxon lives all the way in Australia, right? I guess Saxon lives with his mom. Does anyone even know who she is? Presuming she's an ex-girlfriend from Alex's youth. Like I said, it just makes me sad for Alex & Saxon!

I just heard Alex's fantastic interview (Around Aug. 26, 2008 on Moonlight Line) with 10-yr.-old interviewer Shelby . Hands down everyone who listened to this couldn't believe how incredible Alex was to this 10-yr.-old girl. I didn't want to say anything, but I knew Alex had a (probably now 11 yr. old) son, Saxon. No wonder he knew how to relate! Alex must be a terrific dad the way he was with Shelby...patient, respectful & truly interested in her opinions. John Lennon had a son, Julian, he had to leave behind in England. Alex mentioned several times how much being with his family in Ausralia meant to him. It sounds like he visits often, & I just know Saxon must be very much in his life.

I guess I'm "updating" this site..Alex has said his son means everything in the world to him..that's why (one reason) I love him...he's a true gentleman, loving, kind, considerate...NOT the usual Hollywood leading man...dont' change Alex! Love your Forever Fan Suzanne Go Hawaii Five o!!!!

I am so curious to know who the mother of Alex's son, Saxon, is. I know she is still in Australia, and her and Alex never married. Does anyone know who she is ? I am dying to see what she looks like ! BTW --The premiere of Hawaii 5-0 last night was absolutely amazing ! Alex rocks !
