Message from Alex O'Loughlin to Moonlight fans

Alex O'Loughlin has sent this heartfelt message out to Moonlight fans. He is such a thoughtful person. We are fortunate to have had him leading our show!

Family and Friends
Current mood: Shocked and sad

Dear Friends, Family and wonderful, wonderful Fans of MOONLIGHT.

Well, where to start....?

The decision to cancel MOONLIGHT... my MOONLIGHT... our MOONLIGHT, is as much of a shock and gut wrenching surprise to me as it is to all of you.

Really, I don't even know where to begin.

I sit here at my computer, still slack jawed even 24 hours after receiving the news that my services are no longer required on the set of this show. A show we have all come to know and love deeply, and it hurts more than I can possibly tell you.

Since i got THE CALL I have not read anything online or otherwise, I have not been following blogs or forums, I have not been reading the trades or opinion polls and I have not been calling around to get information.

"Why are you not fighting for your show?!" I hear you all scream!!

The truth is my friends, I never STOPPED fighting for it.

From the very beginning when I was told time and again that i wasn't the man for the job, having to prove myself to everyone with tests and screen tests, to a complete re-casting of the show, through 5 different show runners at the helm with 5 different artistic visions, to a Writer's strike that took 5 episodes away from us...... oh how the list goes on.

But through all of that, i am proud to say that not once did I bow down and allow someone else to come in and do with MOONLIGHT as they please. And along the way, if I needed a break and wanted to do that, I don't think I could have anyway because, well, I suppose it's just not in my nature! ;)

This is all still so fresh for me and I am going to need a little time to process this whole thing before i can digest what has actually happened, let alone move on.

Honestly. I really feel lost for words.

I will say however, that never, never in my life have I experienced first hand a level of support from a group of people like that of you all who are reading this now, and who 'loved this show to life' alongside me. It has been overwhelming to say the least.

I am grateful to you all.

I am extremely proud to be associated with this piece of television.

And I am so, so sorry to my very core, to lose MOONLIGHT.

All my love,

Alex O'Loughlin x

Yes I agree. Is there some non-intrusive way we can offer our condolences to him and the rest of the cast?

Alex put so muuch into this show of his heart, soul and imagination... not to mention the 90 hour + weeks. He deserves better than this, and I for one would like to have a way to let him know how much we appreciated and enjoyed what he did for us.

He is pure class - not only as an actor but also a human.

I agree with Cobby. I want him to know that we will follow his career and support him in all that he does. AND that we love him---he is one-of-a-kind! My heart breaks every time I read his message. The networks are such losers! How short-sighted can you be?

I have been heartbroken all day but reading Alex's message has really devastated me. I can't even start imagining how he is feeling, after putting so much blood, sweat, and tears into this show and having everything taken away. It so doesn't seem fair.

I think the best we can do is to support him as his career continues. He has a movie coming out soon and we should all support him. Same with the rest of the cast.

Thanks Kandye for all your work too. It has been fun....now to watch more episodes and reminisce.

Hello Everyone...Kandyegirl, fans and Alex and the Moonlight Gang.

I just wanted to thank you Kandeygirl for all the hard work you have put into this wonderful show, you have fought along with others and their moonlight forums and blogs so hard to keep Moonlight afloat...of course also the fans for the blood drives, the T-shirts and all the calling and messaging to the TV stations....We are a bunch of great people here and i want to most of all say to Alex that his heartwarming letter put tears to my eyes, i am as he and many of us shocked at what has happened. He did not deserve this, none of them did, Sophia put just as much time and effort into the show and lets not forget our Josef, boy i will miss this trio when they are gone after this Friday. I have goose bumps all over me just thinking that we have been so let down.

Alex, you are an amazing actor and i have no doubt that you will succeed in your endeavors, you have millions of loyal fans that will follow you to the end and fight for you.

Moonlight was a giant thrill ride that ended with heart breaks and tears....

Thank you so much for making Moonlight my fav and only show that i will cherish and remember forever.

Love all you guys, Alex, Sophia, Josef and Shannyn...

There could never be such a group of people that will leave me with my heart in my hands ever again.

Good Luck and God Bless you All.

I just wanted to say that I loved the show and am deeply saddened by it being canceled. But Mick and Beth will live on- I like to think that they rebelled against everyone and ended up together and happy! :)

This is the first TV show in 30 years that has kept me coming back week after week.

The stories/actors are fantastic (and I've never been a fan of the "vampire genre.") I just can't believe CBS doesn't have the foresight to know that this show is a keeper. I'm very sad, and I'll probably just go back to reading and not turning on the television.

Best of luck to Alex, Sophia and Jason. You are all wonderful actors - CBS made a big mistake, and I wish you all well in future endeavors.

Not since X Files, have I been such
a loyal fan of a TV show. I absolutely LOVE Moonlight. The
story lines, the great chemistry
between all the characters and that
special "quality" it possesses that
NO OTHER SHOW HAS, will be so missed. I am just so sad about it,
and I will never watch CBS again!
How stupid are they for this move!
Moonlight WILL open many doors for
all of them, but I wanted this
show to have many many seasons for
us all to enjoy! I will miss it so
very much.

Moonlight is my favorite show, after Jericho, which was cancelled also! Why is it that networks lack the courage and fortitude to keep quality shows on the air? To Alex, you are a great actor, and hopefully a surge of fans will appear to convince CBS to continue with Moonlight!!! Vicki in Oregon

I really admire Mr. O'Loughlin's fortitude. It takes alot of courage to make great art and he's got it! I still pull for bringing the show back because since I first heard about it being canceled over at Happy Horror I've been totally bummed.

Here's to CBS seeing the (moon)light and turning this ship around!

My son and I love the show, the acting and writing is top notch. Alex, you are a natural in the role and very believable. The mark of a great actor. We were shocked and quite dismayed over the cancelation. We hope that CW will pick it up, we will certainly do our part to facilitate it.
Be strong, we've got your back

Alex,
My son and I love your show. The acting and the writing is top notch. You are a natural for the role, that is very clear. The mark of a great actor is getting the audience to believe you are the character you're portraying. Alex, you do that beautifully and with much class and professionalism.

Alex,
I have loved Moonlight from the very first previews. You captured my attention in those few seconds enough to pronpt me to take a chance on a new series. I have to say you didn't disappoint me! I have been a devoted viewer since day one, eagerly anticipating Friday night with the same excitement of a school girl going on her first real date! The story captivated me, the acting drew me in as if I were right along side Mick and Beth, watching anxiously to see what would happen next. I cannot let this show go! I am joining the millions of fans fighting to get the show picked up by another network, if you and the cast are willing, we are waiting!

Much love and devotion to all of the Moonlight cast,
Angela

I'm a writer and teacher who is deeply saddened to discover that Moonlight has been axed.

Television truly is disappointing these days. Once in a blue moon, a show like this comes along and is such a refreshing pleasure to watch...and CBS cancels it?

I truly question their creative judgement.

I've been writing about the macabre for some time now...and had finally found a face to fit the poem I'd written a few years back.

Just the other day, a friend said..."You know that poem? It rememinds me of Moonlight. You know, the show?"

So, if I may...I'd like to share this with all of you too. Humor me, will you? I think we ,ight need it just now...

"Bewitched Immortal Love"
by: Sylvia Leigh

On a crisp October night
By love's sweet spell I knew,
My world would never be the same,
Beneath the autumn moon.
Bewitching words of love spake he
To lure me from the light
With ever-enchanting promises
As solace from my fright.

The longer he whispered, the farther I dared
To follow the path he led,
All the while fighting
A hideous case
Of perpetual fear and dread.

The man - so irresistible,
Well-versed and full of charm,
Swore the world and all it held
Lay waiting in his arms.

Of immortality he spake,
Of life fit for a queen,
Of wealth untold, magnificent tales
Of places I'd never been.

With all my might, I struggled to fight
The spell of the stranger's eyes,
Willing myself with all that I had,
To run from the stranger's lies.

But blinded by tears and stricken with fright
I sadly could fight no more.
Surrender gave way on that sweet autumn night
To all he had promised before!

With quite a seductive tenderness,
He offered then his hand,
Transporting we two - to greater heights
Just as he had planned.
We danced across the moon...(I swear),
We loved all through the night,
Demanding but one concession
That I sacrifice the light.

You see,
The man who stole my heart
Required so much more....
Destiny deems I walk the night
As never I did before.
By day, I sleep with sweet regret
And wait for evening's fall.
To dance the dance I shan't forget
Each time I hear his call...
