Video ~ Nina Tassler says Moonlight canceled based on ratings

TV Week has a video interview with CBS President of Entertainment, Nina Tassler. Around the 1:05 mark of the clip, she talks about what led to Moonlight being canceled. She says, "It was a very hard decision... but it was based on the ratings." Our show has never been given the chance to run uninterrupted in order to gain even more viewers. It obviously means nothing to them that Moonlight managed to grow such a devoted and loyal fan base, and get around 8 million viewers DESPITE all the adversity it faced! Writer's Strike, never knowing if CBS was gonna schedule a new episode or a repeat, reruns airing then yanked for 3 months, being a freshman show..... on and on.....

What a bunch of crap!!! She really is a two-faced bitch and to think she was at the Paley Center with the cast. We all know Moonlight's ratings were satisfactory given the slot they were in. The renewed other show with equal or only slightly better ratings (check our The Big Bang Theory) and in better time slots. So typical to blame it on the fans.

The truth is there was a face-off with WB & CBS and neither was willing to step up to save Moonlight. Consequent, the cast, Moonlight and fans are the ones that pay. I think WB is behaving like a child. If you don't want to play my way, I'll take my ball and go home and then they cut of their noses in spite their faces by totally shelving the show and not marketing it.

Well said Anonymous 1. My feelings exactly. Someone has screwed someone else over & the Moonlight community (actors, fans etc) have paid the price

My heart is breaking. I'm still in utter shock at what has been going down...

I just don't get it.

Yes, she is full of shit. Moonlight's ratings were about 1 million less than GWhisperer and Numbers was 1.5 more. BUT NEITHER SHOW EVER HAD DOUBLE DIGIT VIEWERS.

My alliegence is to Moonlight, as much as I like Simon Baker, I am not watching the new Fri 9pm show and I'm going to quit Numbers.....GW I never watched.

I agree with all of you. It's so easy for CBS to place the blame on the viewers. A big piece of the blame goes to CBS for not promoting Moonlight in the first place. I still run into people who have never heard of it! The viewers CBS counted were participants in Nielson ratings households. I've read many fan comments that stated they weren't included in the 8 million Nielson viewers. Just think of the many loyal Moonlight fans that were NOT included in the ratings system!

By the way, I was on the CBS web site earlier and they already have a show slated to run in Moonlight's time slot...the nerve! It's some fluff show with a minor character from Gray's Anatomy starring in it. It's so forgettable I cannot recall the name. The clip I saw didn't even remotely interest me. I couldn't help thinking, "This is the show they killed Moonlight for to get better ratings?" Get real, CBS! I don't see this show surviving for long.

I also wanted to point out that Moonlight went up against Women's Murder Club and Friday Night Lights in the fall. Our show consistently beat them in the ratings and the irony is this: Friday Night Lights (on the bubble for a long while) was RENEWED and Moonlight and Women's Murder Club were CANCELLED! CBS just handed their ratings over to NBC if FNL stays in the same time slot!

She is full of shit!! The reason we didnt have enought ratings was because most of the people that follow the show watch it online like on youtube or cbs...there's no way for CBS to see how many ppl watch it online! That's not fair! Most of the fans can't get it on the TV...besides, it won the freakin People's Choice BEST NEW DRAMA!!! WTF?!?! I mean...is CBS blind to not see that if a show wins something like that...it has a HUGE fanbase?!?! I guess not...CBS execs are a bunch of cranky old, money makers that can't see a good deal if it bit them in the ass!
I'm praying that the CW or USA picks it up!!
