What is a talent holding deal?

Cynthia, from SF Universe, gives her opinion of Alex O'Loughlin's new contract with CBS. She also explains a bit more about what a "talent holding deal" means. I like her idea for Alex's new show ;> LOVE noir... and we know he is good with that genre.

A number of sources are reporting that Moonlight’s Alex O’Loughlin has signed a talent holding deal with CBS. What this means is that the network will attempt to develop a new series for Alex and /or cast him in another project. Obviously, the first of the two would be the better option, but fans are saying why not just bring back Moonlight? Since Alex was the show, why bother creating something new when something old will do?

As much as I love Moonlight, I’m happy to see Alex sticking around for another shot at anything on TV. Too often actors get one go of it and that’s the end of that. I could totally handle him as a PI in a 40’s Noir drama, or maybe as a lifeguard in a Baywatch remake (I’m going for the ’shirt off’ aspect.) What ever it is, I hope it’s action packed and I hope its soon.

CBS won every half-hour in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 for the second consecutive Friday. CBS has finished first every Friday this season with its first-run regularly scheduled lineup (16 times) in households, viewers and adults 25-54, first in adults 18-49 with the network's first-run regularly scheduled lineup 15 Fridays out of 16 this season.

MOONLIGHT won its time period in households (5.0/09), viewers (7.89m), adults 25-54 (2.8/08) and adults 18-49 (2.1/07) for the second consecutive week.

CBS press release includes Moonlight

CBS has issued a press release to tout their return to being the number one most watched network. Moonlight is included in their bragging. :) I will post the parts of the news that are related to our show.

Have you been sending feedback to CBS letting them know you watch Moonlight, but they are not counting you since they only use the Nielsen system? This is very important. I know that many of you have been doing this for weeks. *cheer* Keep up the good work!

CBS has finished first every Friday this season with their first-run regularly scheduled line-up (15 times) in households, viewers and adults 25-54, first in adults 18-49 with the network's first-run regularly scheduled line-up 14 Fridays out of 15 this season.

GHOST WHISPERER easily won its time slot in households (5.7/11), viewers (8.98m), adults 25-54 (3.2/11) and adults 18-49 (2.3/09).

MOONLIGHT won its time period in households (5.0/09), viewers (7.93m), adults 25-54 (2.8/08) and adults 18-49 (2.1/07). Compared to the program's first-run live plus same day delivery, MOONLIGHT added +20,000 viewers (from 7.91m), was even in households and maintained 90% of its adults 25-54 delivery (from 3.1/08) and 91% of adults 18-49 (from 2.3/07).

NUMB3RS was first in households (6.0/11), viewers (9.64m), adults 25-54 (3.0/08) and adults 18-49 (2.1/07).

Writer's Strike News ~ WGA & United Artists Working on Agreement

Writer's Strike update..... Since the negotiations between the WGA and AMPTP have broken down, it appears that the writer's new strategy is to make separate deals with production companies. As you know, the first of such agreements just recently occurred with David Letterman's WorldWide Pants. According to The New York Post, they are currently in talks with United Artists. See the brief article below. Moonlight fans are more than ready to make a deal! :)

UNITED ARTISTS CLOSE TO DEAL WITH WRITERS GUILD

Tom Cruises' United Artists is close to a deal with the Writers Guild of America that would allow striking scribes to get back to work on projects commissioned by the studio, sources told The Post.

The tentative deal is said to mirror a similar pact David Letterman's Worldwide Pants production company recently signed with the union, clearing the way for writers to work on talk-show host's "Late Show."

If a deal is reached, United Artists, a division of MGM, would become the first notable movie company to come to terms with the writers.
