Reminder ~ Be heard as a Moonlight viewer!

Since we have been grumbling about Moonlight's Nielsen ratings, I thought this would be a good time for a reminder about our own little ratings system. ;>

Repost ~

One of the things we have been doing for quite some time is writing directly to CBS to say "I'm a loyal Moonlight viewer but I don't count in the Nielsen ratings you use." Letting them know how often we watch the show... on tv, online, DVR, Amazon, TIVO, iTunes. I have gotten tons of enthusiastic messages from you about this. You have jumped on this idea. I can only imagine the avalanche of postcards, emails & feedbacks they are receiving. YEA!

International Moonlight fans have really taken to this campaign, since their viewing definitely does not effect the Nielsen ratings. Write a quick email saying that you are from Canada, France, Brazil, Ireland, Australia, England, Italy, the Middle East, etc along with your viewing stats.

I knew I could depend on you :) Please, keep sending those messages. This is our own ratings system.

Be heard as a Moonlight viewer!

Trying to understand television ratings

My friend, TexasBlondie, asked a good question. One that I know lots of you also have about the current tv ratings system. It is too confusing.

We've discussed the Nielsen ratings a great deal over the past few months. Most of us never worried much about the system, until we fell for Moonlight. :) Now, the way viewers are tabulated is very important to us.

TB's question : Hi Kandye - TexasBlondie here... do you know if having every television on your house makes a difference in the ratings? I am usually home on Fridays by myself and I had every turned to Moonlight - I have 4 TV's in my house....

Thanks, TexasBlondie! Moonlight fans are dedicated & marvelous... willing to do anything for our show. Woo Woo!

Unless you have a Nielsen box or take their survey, you are not counted by them. *sigh* Of all the people I talk to online & off, NONE are Nielsen families. Do you know anyone with their meter? Who are these elusive folks? If you are an expert in this area, I hope you will leave comments to help us to better understand.

I have been thinking about the Nielsen ratings system and Moonlight. Obsess much? hahaha.... We are all loyal viewers of our show, but we don't count in the imporant numbers that determine if it stays on the air ~ just because we are not part of the Nielsen family. Do you know anyone who has one of their boxes? Grrr!

Something occurred to me. Why don't we contact CBS directly with our own ratings?!? Tell them that we watch Moonlight every week (many times on tv, DVR, online, Amazon, TIVO) but are not counted. It is an important message.

Save Our Vampire ~ Photo wallpaper of Alex O'Loughlin as vamped out Mick St John

Save Our Vampire wallpaper for your computer :) The photo of Alex O'Loughlin in vamped out Mick St John mode is appropriate for our campaign. He is ready to fight.... and so are we! Plus, he looks too sexy! *wink* When we turn on our computers, this graphic will be a daily reminder of what we are fighting for..... and.... for us to work on getting Moonlight renewed for a second season. You can also use it for your MySpace layout, website and so on to remind others to contact CBS. We need to express our devotion. Bury the network in positive letters, calls and emails :) I'm soooo proud of all the Moonlight fans working together to support our show!

Zap2it & Variety address Moonlight not being on CBS renewal list

Zap2it wrote about the television programs that have not received a second season pick up from CBS yet. Here is the information from their story ~

Among the shows that remain in limbo are beloved Monday comedy "How I Met Your Mother," slightly less beloved Monday comedy "Rules of Engagement," the James Wood drama "Shark," "The Unit" and cult vampire favorite "Moonlight." All of those shows (except possibly for "The Unit") are being brought back into production and will return in March and April for new episodes likely to determine their eventual fate. Presumably the network's schedule will still have room for several of those shows.

Also on uncertain footing is "Jericho," which was brought back from the dead after a fan campaign, but delivered middling returns in its Tuesday return. "Jericho" has finished shooting its mini-season, but six episodes have yet to air.

http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-cbsrenews11for200809,0,7341122.story

Variety has also published an article regarding the CBS press release detailing tv shows it has officially renewed. They have this to say about Moonlight not appearing on the list ~

Missing from the pickup list: critical fave laffer "How I Met Your Mother." Net hasn't yet determined the long-term fates of newcomers "Moonlight," "Cane" and "Welcome to the Captain," while "The Unit," "Shark," "Jericho," "Rules of Engagement" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine" also remain on the bubble.

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117980954.html?categoryid=14&cs=1

This just confirms what we discussed previously. We need big, big ratings for the four new episodes of Moonlight that begin airing in April. I know that most of you are already contacting the network. Keep it up! While emails are great, remember that a landslide of snail mail is impressive. Even though it only takes a few short minutes and a stamp, it shows dedication to our show :)

CBS list of renewed tv programs DOES NOT include Moonlight!

CBS issued a press release today listing the television shows that they are renewing for the 2008/2009 season. Moonlight is not on the list! A few months ago, CEO Les Moonves mentioned that The Big Bang Theory & Moonlight were the freshman series that were "likely" to get a second season. Big Bang Theory is on the renewal list. :( This is the reason we can not let up in supporting our show. It is imperative that the four new episodes airing the rest of this season (beginning April 11th) have huge ratings. Continue writing and calling the network, media shows and magazines, keep Moonlight and our stars at the top of Hey! Nielsen. Above all.... spread the word!

One last thing......... please, remember to be polite and concise whether writing or actually speaking to someone at CBS. Threatening to not watch the network ever again or being rude won't get us what we are trying so hard to achieve. Moonlight fans are a great bunch so I don't think it will be a problem. :)

What is Moonlight's upcoming schedule?

I have received many messages from readers asking for Moonlight's upcoming schedule. Unfortunately, tonight's episode ~ Arrested Development (#1x05 ~ will be the last rerun that CBS gives us for quite a long time. :( Next Friday (Feb 15th), the network is airing a Celine Dion special instead of our show. Then, for the following six weeks, The Price is Right gameshow will be on in primetime in Ghost Whisperer's time slot. That will bump GW down to Moonlight's time period. *growl* So, as I said before, we have to enjoy the show tonight even more! Thank goodness, all of Moonlight's marvelous episodes are available on YouTube. We can also watch great fan videos. Moonlight has the most creative fans! *cheer*

Let's use this down time constructively. Channel our disappointment into more fuel for supporting our show! The rumors are growing louder that the writer's strike will be ending soon. Along with that... there are also rumors that only older, established television programs will be chosen to produce a few episodes to finish this chopped up season. The tv gurus are saying that new shows will be held and re-launched this Fall instead. We can use this time to let CBS know that if/when the strike is resolved we want more Moonlight NOW!

You have been doing such a fab job of contacting CBS and media outlets to promote Moonlight :) Please, continue to do so. Show the network that they have serious and true fans on their hands.

Visit the official CBS website for Moonlight whenever you can. The network tracks the number of hits each show's page receives. Of course, we want to have the highest number of visitors.

You are such wonderful Moonlight fans, I have no doubt that you are writing and calling CBS about our show. :) I just want to encourage you to keep up the good work! Moonlight has received some great news lately.... winning the People's Choice Award, Les Moonves saying it is "likely to return," being number one in our time slot this past Friday, etc. I know that Alex O'Loughlin's humble acceptance speech gained many new viewers! Even though wonderful things have happened for our show, we can not let our guard down. Please, continue to ask the network to renew Moonlight!

Emailing is great.... however, sending postcards and letters has a lot of impact. They think it is a sign of really dedicated fans. Show them how devoted Moonlight fans are to our show! Keep our messages polite, well written and to the point.

Write to CBS and Support Moonlight!!!

We have almost made it through the first week of no Moonlight, only two more to go! Think happy thoughts... think happy thoughts....

Let's put this long break to positive use. Write &/or call CBS in support of our show! Sending email is a good thing, but actual letters and cards piling up makes even more of a statement. Postcards are often effective because the message can be seen immediately instead of needing to be opened first. Also, this is Christmas card time. It is easy to add one (or ten) for the network to your list. :)

As I mentioned previously, Ms Tassler said "Oh, I love my vampire!" and admitted to being "smitten" with Alex. "Alex is so warm and genuine and such a wonderfully talented actor. We had seen his episodes of 'The Shield,' and he's got such great charisma and is so unassuming in his crazy good looks that he just endears himself to you." We do not want her to forget why she was impressed with Moonlight to begin with or to change her mind.

A few thoughts.... please, keep your message clear and to the point. Eight page fan speak loaded letters can be off-putting. No threatening, name calling and so on. Who wants to read negative, rude mail?! I know you wouldn't do anything like that. :) We want CBS to have positive thoughts of Moonlight and its fans. Let them know how much we love our show, and appreciate them airing it for us. If you have shopped with the companies that advertise during Moonlight, be sure to mention that. We can write directly to the advertisers and thank them for choosing to run their commercials during Moonlight.

Writer's strike begins today! Will it affect Moonlight?!

It is official ~ the writer's strike that has been talked about for months began today in New York City and Hollywood. Already, "The Late Show with David Letterman" and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" have both announced that they will be showing repeats. They rely on daily and topical jokes, which takes ~ you guessed it ~ writers. And you thought they wrote all of their material. :)

One of the reasons those of us who adore Moonlight have heard so much about this is because new TV shows, which are already vulnerable, can be devastated by the strike. From reports, there are several episodes that are filmed and ready to go. That should mean that we will get our Mick and Beth fix for a few more weeks. What happens after that though? Will CBS stand by Moonlight if the strike drags on and on? It has great momentum now. If the strike lasts a long time, will the program have the same following when it begins airing again?!?

I know that you have also been sending them feedback expressing your feelings about the show. Now, more than ever we have to keep showing them how loyal and serious we are as fans of Moonlight!

CBS Feedback ~
