TV Guide ~ Moonlight Still "Exploring Options"

Moonlight on TV Guide's website again! Alex O'Loughlin has been in every issue of the magazine for the last... what?... 3 or 4 weeks. And, our show has been mentioned in several columns on the web page just since Monday. YEA!

This time, it is Matt Webb Mitovich's turn. We already heard the news about MRC not being our new home. I still think they are crazy, of course. Notice tho that Kevin Samples says "It just didn't seem in the end that it was the right thing to do at this moment in time" and then admits they will evolve in the future cuz "We're going down a new path here." Perhaps, they will see the error of their way after dealing with show ratings that don't compare to Moonlight's.

The great thing is, Matt confirms that the WB is still looking for ways to give us more Moonlight :)

CW Didn't Bite, But Moonlight Still "Exploring Options"

Moonlight fans hoping to see Alex O'Loughlin and his vampire-drama buddies resurrected by the CW had their dreams squashed when Media Rights Capital officially released the Sunday line-up it had developed for the fifth network. Addressing the decision to pass up the opportunity to pick up the cult hit and its eight million viewers, MRC TV president Keith Samples explains to Variety, "It just didn't seem in the end that it was the right thing to do at this moment in time.

"We're going down a new path here, I'll be the first to admit," Samples adds. "Things will come up on this road we didn't foresee, and we will evolve."

That said, sources tell TVGuide.com that Warner Bros. TV still is "exploring other options," though it is unclear if that relates to hosting existing episodes of Moonlight or delivering new ones. — MWM

We are still fighting for Moonlight! After all, our cast, crew & writers deserve it. None of us would be satisfied if we didn't try everything in our power to save Moonlight.

Moonlight United has asked us all to join in the Perpetually Cool Postcard Campaign. Here are the details ~

With today’s news that CBS has opted not to pick up Moonlight for next season, Moonlight fans have been asking what we can do next. The idea of a postcard campaign, in addition to calling and emailing, seems to be the most popular and viable option for requesting that another network pick up our show.

To make this as easy as possible for fans, and to provide a united front, we’ve created a simple .pdf file with two postcards that you can print on cardstock and mail in. We encourage fans to write their own “perpetually cool” message on the front, and write the address on the blank side.

Right now we are targeting Warner Bros. (the studio that produces the show) to ask them to find a new home for Moonlight, and the CW, which is rumored to be interested.

Time is of the essence so these cards need to get to Warner Bros. and the CW within the next 24-48 hours. Overnight delivery is your friend!

'Moonlight' Is Dead At MRC & Everywhere

I just heard this morning that it's a no-go for Media Rights Capital, which is programming Sunday's two-hour block for the CW, to pick up Moonlight. So it's dead, gone, six feet under. The cancelled CBS show was officially offered to MRC yesterday. (It was also offered to others, but the people behind the show thought MRC was their best shot.) And there was enough of a chance of a pick-up that Warner Bros television took the unusual step of agreeing to delay its order yesterday to strike the Moonlight sets until Friday to see what happened. And a lot of lobbying and arm-twisting has gone down since then. However, first thing this morning, MRC officially passed. The reason I'm told is that MRC, rightly or wrongly, is committed to looking for fresh materal, not recycled. (MRC has already semi-announced its four original shows for CW's Sunday time slots...) But in my opinion, it's dumb move by MRC. Not only would Moonlight's existing ratings be a huge improvement over anything now appearing on the CW, but the financing and production company could take advantage of the awareness already built up thanks to CBS's heavy (in other words, expensive) promotion of the show throughout this past TV season. At a time in the TV biz when it's so hard to market new shows, that's a big plus. A big minus, however, is the tough deal that WBTV would drive, and that's what sunk the show at CBS, too.

Per Matt Mitovich at TV Guide, Warner Bros is approaching other networks in an attempt to find a new home for Moonlight.

Will the CW Bring Moonlight Back to Life?

I almost hesitate to pass this along, for fear of fostering false hope. But a Moonlight source confirms that Warner Bros. is shopping the show around to other outlets, one of which is the CW. (DeadlineHollywoodDaily says that Media Rights Capital, the firm contracted by the CW to program its Sunday-night block, is among those being wooed.)

The rumored possibility of salvation came just as Warner Bros. was poised to start striking down the vampire drama's sets. Instead, they will hold off on the razing until Friday. — MWM

TV Week reporting a tenative schedule for CW's Sunday night lineup

TV Week is reporting that the CW & Media Rights Capital have issued a tenative schedule for Sunday nights. Moonlight is not included. However, the article states the programs could change. I don't know about you, but I intend to continue contacting Warner Bros, MRC & the CW! There are plenty of other networks that the WB can approach if the deal with the CW doesn't happen.

CW, Media Rights Capital Set Up Sunday

The CW quietly revealed details of the four new shows likely to air on Sunday nights as part of its new Media Rights Capital-produced lineup.

Titles of the new shows flashed during the network's upfront party Tuesday. In an interview later, CW Entertainment President Dawn Ostroff confirmed that MRC has identified two dramas and two half-hour comedies it plans to program on Sundays.

Ms. Ostroff said it's possible the titles could change, but as of now, the four shows are:

—"F.A.T. City," a scripted procedural crime drama set in Las Vegas.

—"Valentine's Day," a "Cupid"-like romantic drama.

—Comedies "Murphy's Law" and "Surviving Suburbia."

Ostroff said The CW's Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday lineups all will premiere the week of Sept. 1. The network's Friday schedule should bow early in September as well, she said. Thursday's lineup of "Supernatural" and "Smallville" likely will premiere later in the season, she added.

Could the CW be Moonlight's new home?

A bit more info I've been digging up...... Nikki, from Deadline Hollywood Daily, has said there is a CHANCE that Moonlight could be picked up by the CW network. Specifically, by Media Rights Capital which the CW has partnered with to program their Sunday night lineup. The network's sitcoms "Everbody Hates Chris" & "The Game" are moving from Sunday to Friday night. That is due to the CW's current Friday night show "SmackDown" moving to MyNetworkTV.

We need to continue telling Warner Bros that we will follow Moonlight no matter where it airs. Also, let's reassure the CW/Media Rights Capital that they will have an instant hit on their hands. Even with all the promotion and controversy surrounding CW's series, Gossip Girl, our show easily has double the ratings!

Moonlight needs its fans now more than ever! SAVE OUR VAMPIRE

My friends ~

I know everyone is discouraged right now due to the leak of negative news about CBS' intentions with Moonlight. Remember, nothing is official yet. We will not know the true fate of our show's renewal or cancelation until the network makes the announcement during the upfronts on Wednesday.

The entertainment business is just that.... a business. It's about money. Several sources have reported that CBS is trying to get Warner Bros Studio to shoulder more of the cost. For all we know, these leaks are simply their way of pressuring the WB even more by getting Moonlight fans whipped into a frenzy.

Perhaps, as some media outlets are reporting, Moonlight will come back as a midseason show. Maybe it will be picked up by another network or move to cable. Alex O'Loughlin said "there'd be a lot more blood, there'd be a lot more sex, there'd be a lot more everything" if Moonlight was a cable show. I could live with that ;>

Bottom line.... I will watch Moonlight no matter when or where it is shown! My loyalty is not to CBS, it is to the show!

Not long ago, I had the fantastic opportunity to work with DarkRavyn & DJ Timmy D to create a "Save Our Vampire" video, featuring the delicious Alex O'Loughlin as our Mick St John. I think the message is even more important and needed now. A little pick me up and a battle cry for Moonlight fans. We won't give up the fight for Moonlight, will we?!??

Be heard as a Moonlight viewer! Of course, we need to continue to be polite & concise in all correspondence. Threatening &/or insulting messages will not help our cause. I know that I can count on you to simply speak from your heart :)

Writer's Strike Update ~ TV Studios terminate deals with some writers, producers & directors

Writer's Strike Update ~ Nellie Andreeva has written a very informative article, for the Hollywood Reporter, about the studios decision to terminate contracts today. Of course, they place the fault with the WGA strike. Warner Bros Television (mentioned in her article) and Silver Pictures produce Moonlight.

A little definition for you..... Force majeure is French for greater force. This clause is commonly written in contracts. Basically, it frees each party from obligation &/or liability when unexpected circumstances (beyond either party's control) occur... like this writer's strike. Apparently, the contracts with the television studios allowed for termination after 4 to 6 weeks.

Black Monday at TV studios

The force majeure ax swung wide Monday as four TV studios ~ CBS Paramont Network TV, Universal Media Studios, 20th Century Fox Television and Warner Bros. TV ~ tore up dozens of overall deals.

All four issued similarly worded statements blaming the writers strike for the terminations, which are expected to save the studios tens of millions of dollars. But none came close to the nearly 30 overall deals axed at ABC Studios on Friday. CBS Par and 20th TV each dropped half that number. UMS and WBTV stayed in the single digits, with WBTV's termination tally said to be less than five deals. Like ABC Studios, CBS Par, UMS, 20th TV and WBTV mostly went after writers, producers and directors with no active projects.

CBS Par's force majeure list includes some high-profile writing and nonwriting producers: Hugh Jackman, whose Seed Prods. inked a multiyear deal at the studio in August; "The Chronicles of Narnia" producer Mark Johnson; veteran writer-producer Rene Echevarria, who co-created CBS Par's USA Network series "The 4400" (he will continue his services as exec producer on the studio's NBC drama "Medium"); the Emmy-winning "Sopranos" writing duo of Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green; Barry Schindel ("Numbers"); and John McNamara ("Fastlane").

Scribes Jennifer Levin ("Without a Trace"), Liz Astrof ("The King of Queens") and the team of Aron Abrams and Greg Thompson ("Everybody Hates Chris") also received termination letters from CBS Par.

"Production companies in the entertainment industry continue to feel the impact of the ongoing writers strike," CBS Par TV said. "As a result of this change in development and production activity, we have made a difficult decision to discontinue overall deals with a number of writers and producers whose talents we greatly value and respect.

"In a clear sign about the future of Fox's "K-Ville" and NBC's "Journeyman" -- two low-rated 20th TV-produced freshman series whose ultimate fate has remained in limbo because of the strike -- the studio terminated the overall deals of "K-Ville" creator/exec producer Jonathan Lisco and co-exec producer Lawrence Kaplow as well as that of "Journeyman" creator/exec producer Kevin Falls.

Also axed at 20th TV were director-producer Greg Yaitanes ("Drive"); writer-producers Chris Black ("Standoff"), Paul Redford ("The Unit"), Barbie Adler ("My Name Is Earl"), Kristin Newman ("How I Met Your Mother"); and the writing duos of Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts ("Women's Murder Club") and Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser ("Drawn Together").

"Because of the adverse effects of the ongoing WGA strike on our business, we have been forced to terminate overall deals with a number of talented writers and producers," 20th TV said. "We regret these circumstances and wish these creative individuals the best."

And there was more regret in the statement from WBTV.

"As an unfortunate but direct consequence of the strike, we have been forced to release some of the valued members of our roster from their development deals," the studio said.

ABC Studios on Friday became the first TV studio to invoke the so-called force majeure provision that allows them to terminate overall deals four to six weeks into a strike.

Among the talent let go at ABC Studios are veterans Nina Wass and Gene Stein, "Brothers & Sisters" creator Jon Robin Baitz and "Borat" director Larry Charles.
