New Vampire projects bring more attention to Moonlight

Moonlight is getting lots of great media attention with the launch of other Vampire projects in the news. iF Magazine has written many articles about our show, as well as interviewed Alex O'Loughlin, Sophia Myles and Jason Dohring. They made sure to include Moonlight in their piece about HBO's new vamp series, True Blood.

Television : Breaking News: 'MOONLIGHT' MAY BE DEAD, BUT THERE'S ALWAYS 'TRUE BLOOD'

HBO gets into the vampire game with the Alan Ball produced horror series
By CARL CORTEZ

LOCATION: New Orleans

THE SKINNY: First ANGEL is staked by the WB and last season CBS dusted their vampire series MOONLIGHT after one season despite support from a strong legion of fans. With vampire series getting little respect on TV, why would HBO greenlight a vampire series called TRUE BLOOD?

Two words: Alan Ball.

Yes, the creator of SIX FEET UNDER and the screenwriter of AMERICAN BEAUTY has brought Charlaine Harris’ series of novels focusing on a psychic girl (Anna Paquin) who falls in love with a mysterious vamp (Stephen Moyer) to the small screen with sex, blood, and more sex.

“We’re all about bringing in an idea with enormous passion and talent and when Alan came in to us with the idea of TRUE BLOOD, it was a no brainer,” says Michael Lombardo, HBO’s President of Programming Group and West Coast Operations, at this year's summer press tour.

“And when he described what he wanted to do, that was the reason to do it," he adds. "We weren’t looking for Alan to do a ‘vampire show.’ We were looking to be in business with Alan again, and he had a great take on a great series of books.”

Did CBS miss the Vampire bandwagon?

Our friends at the TV Addict have picked up on Perez Hilton's blog post..... and they agree with us! :)

I also LOVE the banner/header they are using on their website (see above). It was created by a wonderful, anonymous Moonlight fan for the TV Addict's second annual "Pimp Your Favorite Show Contest."

Did CBS Miss The Vampire Bandwagon?

Here are five words this TV Addict never expected to write: Perez Hilton has a point.

In his recent post titled, ‘Vampires Are In’ the reigning queen of celebrity gossip sights the 3.5 million copies being printed for Stephanie Meyers fourth and final installment of the TWILIGHT series BREAKING DAWN, the upcoming September premiere of Alan Ball’s [SIX FEET UNDER] highly anticipated new HBO series TRUE BLOOD and the TWILIGHT movie set to hit the big screens in December as proof positive that vampires are the new boy wizards.

Leading us to wonder aloud — with interest in Vampires seemingly at an all-time high — could CBS have cancelled MOONLIGHT at a worse time?

Perez Hilton ~ Vampires Are In

Blogger Perez Hilton has written a post saying what we have all been discussing for months! Vampire stories are more popular than ever right now. Books.... Southern Vampire series of Charlaine Harris and Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer, Movies... such as (of course) Twilight, Lost Boys 2 : The Tribe, Rise with Lucy Liu & Michael Chiklis. TV... True Blood on HBO. CBS could have been a leader with an already established television show in Moonlight. :(

The Vampyre girl in me is excited by all the projects coming out, and can not believe how short sighted the executives at CBS were with our show! *sigh*

Vampires Are In
by Perez Hilton

Vampires will be showing their teeth the next few months!

On the first Saturday in August, teens are expected to attend midnight parties at bookstores across the land in droves to celebrate the release of author Stephenie Meyer's Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final book of her Twilight series.

Breaking Dawn has a first run printing of 3.5 million copies.

Talk about popular!

And then, not too long after that, the first Twilight movie should be hitting movie screens worldwide.

Also, in September, HBO's premiering the vampire show True Blood on September 7th.

True Blood is based on a series of novels by Charlaine Harris. It's set in a world where vampires have come out into the open, thanks to the development of synthetic blood that allows them to survive without feeding on humans.

Anna Paquin will star as a mind-reading waitress who's drawn to a vampire who arrives in her small Louisiana town.

The undead live on!

Daemon's TV writer not impressed by preview of The Ex-List

Sandie, from Daemon's TV, has written an article about the incredibly lame show (The Ex-List) that CBS is planning to air in place of the canceled Moonlight. In the piece, she says basically the same thing we did upon seeing a preview video of the usurper.

What were they thinking?!?!? As I ranted in a previous blog post... CBS executives stated they want to attract more female viewers. However, they axe Moonlight & Mick St John/Alex O'Loughlin in favor of this rubbish. URGH!

First Look: CBS’ THE EX-LIST
By Sandie

Now that we have learned a little more about CBS’ new primetime schedule, it’s time to take a closer look at all of their new shows, next up THE EX-LIST.

So this is what they are replacing Moonlight with…well I’m not going to lie, it doesn’t look even half as good as Moonlight. Then again, it’s a totally different genre, which begs the question why would they put it after Ghost Whisperer?

I’m not sure if I am convinced yet, I would really need to take a look at the full pilot to make a decision, but let’s just say it’s going to have to be REALLY good for me to get over the fact that it replaced Moonlight (which we all know I loved).

Message of thanks to fans from Alex O'Loughlin

Alex has written a gracious note to his fans. He is clearly touched by all the messages he has received from you! Can you imagine how much mail he receives? I think it is sweet of him to apologize for not being able to respond to everyone quickly.

I have been a fan of Alex's work for years, so he has no worries here :) I support him in all his projects!

Dear Family, Friends and wonderful fans.

I have recently been going through a lot of mail from you guys and I wanted to take this opportunity to say a few things.

First, I would like to preface by apologizing for any late replies to mail I have been sent. I try to get to it all asap but sometimes it goes through a number of different channels before I even see it and time can slip away.

But the main reason for me writing is that I have found myself totally overwhelmed at the amount of support you have all been giving me in this time.

Its true, to have something you put your heart into taken away can be difficult, painful and sometimes confusing. In this instance all of the above. But never do you expect to receive anything like the amount of cards, letters and notes of appreciation and love that I have recently. It has been awesome!

Thank you all so very much.

Only too well do I understand the attachment so many of you had to Moonlight and to Mick, Beth, Josef and the gang but now that they have been laid to rest I can only hope you will all follow me into my next exciting adventure, whatever that may be.

We all fought so hard.
We all worked so hard.
I guess some things are simply out of our hands.

I look forward with great anticipation to giving you all the news of the next chapter in this crazy career of mine!! And again, thanks for all the wonderful support.

Warmest regards

Alex O'loughlin. x o x

Viewers refuse to delete Moonlight from their DVR/TiVo

You did it! Recently, I posted TV Guide's call for readers to let them know which television programs you recorded to watch over & over again. They have released the results. Thanks to all the wonderful fan comments, Moonlight is on the list of shows viewers refuse to delete! *cheer*

New Alex O'Loughlin Photo Wallpaper ~ Mick St John from Moonlight's Click Episode #1x14

Here is a new Alex O'Loughlin photo wallpaper..... Mick St John from Moonlight's Click episode (#1x14). Happy birthday to me! *smile* Thanks Tommmmmy!

Click on the image above for a bigger version of the picture to use as your computer desktop background.

Video ~ Alex O'Loughlin radio interview with Daybreak USA

Glorann37620 has created this great video to go along with an interview Alex O'Loughlin did with Daybreak USA back in May. They talked to him on the day that Click (episode #1x14) was to air. Interesting little tid bits, like ~ In the Moonlight scene of Mick asking Josef to re-turn him (Fated to Pretend episode #1x13), one of the lines that really became a fan favorite was "He has my Beth." Alex reveals that he improved that bit of dialogue! He says in this interview, " 'My Beth' just came out of me being in the moment in the scene... In Mick there for the moment... I don't even remember it happening... When we were shooting, I was just thinking about how much I love this woman." Showing yet again how he brought Mick to life for us :)

Fun at my house

I had quite the adventure..... Minding my own business. Slowly but surely reading and answering more of your wonderful email messages. Suddenly, I hear pop, zap, crackle, zap, sizzle, pop. The lights dim, come back up, dim. I immediately turn off the computer. Run to the backdoor. Crackle, pop, sizzle, zzzzzt. Sparks are shooting and cascading in such volume that I can't even open the door. Then ~ POW! and the whole house goes black. No electricity. When the shower of sparks finally stops, I take a look around outside. The heavy duty electrical line from the pole is burned black and smoking. Just my house. I call the electric company and wait.... and wait.... and wait. You can imagine how much fun that was in the heat. They had to bring in a gigantic truck equipped with a crane/bucket thingie. I think that is the technical name for it. *grin* Finally, the power was restored!

Not a very nice pre-birthday gift. Have I been a bad girl?!?!? Maybe I'm being punished for things I did in a past life, cuz you know that I've been a complete angel in this one. *wink*

San Diego blood drive hosted by Trevor Munson ~ July 25th & 26th

Speaking of blood drives....... I know a lot of you are riled up about going to the annual San Diego Comic Con 2008 (July 24th to 27th). Moonlight was introduced at last year's convention so it will always be special to Moonlight fans! I remember seeing videos & photos of our cast and falling even more for the show.

This year, an Alex O'Loughlin/Moonlight blood drive is planned to coincide with the convention. It will be held at the W Hotel because the con has a long standing, wonderful drive of its own. Can you imagine how many lives are going to be saved by the combined efforts of these events?!? Too exciting!

If this news hasn't already gotten you charged up.... The event is going to be hosted by our own Trevor Munson! YEA! Check out the adorable photo of him in the banner. For new international Moonlight fans who may not know that name, he is the co-creator & co-executive producer of our show. Without him, we would not have Mick St John. Trevor is such a gifted writer, as well as an unpretentious & funny man. I have no doubts that you will make him... and all of us... proud :)

Here is the lowdown ~

New message from Alex O'Loughlin to fans about blood drives!

Alex O'Loughlin has sent a new message to all his fans! *cheer* It is soooooo good to hear from him again :) He writes about his continuing support for the American Red Cross and the Moonlight fans' blood drive. We know that Alex is a gracious, sincere person who wouldn't become involved with a charity if he didn't mean it. It never even entered my mind that he would turn his back on the campaign simply because Moonlight was canceled. Alex is not that kind of guy.... another reason that he means so much to us!

I'm reposting the video of Alex's wonderful public service announcement for the Red Cross.

Vote for Sophia Myles in the SyFy Portal Genre Awards

It is time to vote for Sophia Myles in the SyFy Portal Genre Awards! You know that she has been included in the Best Actress/Television category for her role as Beth Turner. As I posted previously, I think Alex O'Loughlin/Mick St John, Jason Dohring/Josef Kostan and Moonlight should have been nominated also. Of course, the snub will not keep us from voting for our girl :)

Voting will be allowed until July 25th, 2008. You can vote once daily per email address.

Alex O'Loughlin's work on The Shield Season 6 to be released on DVD!

My good friend, Cinnamon, gave me some great news to share with you... Alex O'Loughlin appeared as Detective Kevin Hiatt on season 6 of The Shield (tv show). He was a wonderful addition to the cast. Alex made the character compelling and won over the fans, even tho Hiatt seems to be brought in to take over the job of beloved lead character Vic Mackey. The episode that introduces him is appropriately called "The New Guy."

We have been waiting ~ not very patiently ~ for the DVD to become available. A date has finally been announced for it to come out. The Shield season six will be released on August 26th, 2008! Mark your calendars :)

If you are like me and can hardly wait, you can pre-order your copy of the DVD now using this Amazon link.....

Video ~ Mick & Josef scene dubbed in German

This video shows a famous Mick St John & Josef Kostan scene from Moonlight's pilot episode (No Such Things as Vampires #1x01). It contains some of my fave quotes ~

"What is it? Like... Non-fat, soy, Vegan blood?"

"Vampire experts ~ beautiful! Now, we got the food mouthing off about the farmer"

"Vampire solidarity ~ rah, rah, rah and all that"

Moonlight is now airing in Germany. This clip is an example of the German dialogue dubbing. Isn't it weird to hear other voices instead of Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring?!?

TV Guide asks ~ What's Stuck on Your DVR?

TV Guide is asking fans to tell them What's "Stuck" on Your DVR? Moonlight fans are watching saved episodes over and over for that Mick St John fix. We miss our show! Tell TV Guide and everyone reading that we have not forgotten or give up on Moonlight! Leave a comment there and let them know how you feel.

Note ~ You can only comment if you have an account on their website.

We all have those awesome shows (or delicious guilty pleasures) we can't seem to bring ourselves to delete from our DVR hard drive. Heck, we even fessed up to some of ours!

Now, it's your turn. We want everything from the sacred (Grey's Anatomy's Season 2 Finale) to the shameful (every episode of Flavor of Love) and everything in between.

Shannyn Sossamon & George Clooney's new tv commercial

We've been wondering what happened to Shannyn Sossamon since she didn't take part in the recent Moonlight panels at the conventions. She has been having a ton of fun if this video is anything to go by. *wink* The poor girl has been forced to work with George Clooney in a new MARTINI® television commercial. The ad will air on tv in Europe this summer. As George says, Shannyn is so beautiful. Oooooo.... and I like her shoes! I'm addicted to high heels :)

Voting for Moonlight & Sophia Myles in TV.com Awards

The 2008 TV.com awards have two categories that need our attention.

Moonlight is included in the Axed Before Its Time category.

http://www.tv.com/tv-awards/?page=1

Sophia Myles is competing in the Best Fake American Accent category as our Beth Turner.

http://www.tv.com/tv-awards/?page=26

I don't know why they didn't chose Alex O'Loughlin for the accent contest. He has such a wonderful voice period, and has played an American numerous times. A friend of mine did not even realize that Alex was Australian until I told her. The TV.com poll definitely favors actors from the UK..... Hugh Laurie, Ed Westwick, Jamie Bamber and Sophia.

Moonlight debuts on German television today

All our friends in Germany are especially happy....... Moonlight premieres on ProSieben ( Pro 7 ) today! More international love for our show :) This cover is from German guide "TV Spielfilm XXL." As you can see, Holly Valance is the cover story. Poor Alex O'Loughlin ~ er ~ Mick St John is relegated to a small photo and Moonlight mentioned at the bottom. At least, he is still on the magazine cover. I know you are shocked to hear that I think Alex should have been the only one gracing the front page. *grin*

They did a nice write up for the show. I'll post it here for you. The translation was hilarious but very confusing, so I left it in the original German. Here is an example of the translator's English version...........

"No less than 20 tons wobbled with the transmitter in, and even in the hospital CBS president Nina Tassler before the loud cult municipality was not safe: " A physician in the laboratory smock came purely. I feared already, I would have an incurable illness, when he suddenly hervorzog" a bag of peanuts; , Tassler remembers."

See what I mean ~ hahaha! Basically, they are talking about fan campaigns to save shows, such as Roswell & Jericho... with emphasis on our Save Moonlight efforts, the blood drive and so on.

The Super Summer Series : Dr. Psycho - Moonlight - Doctors Diary

Moonlight - Pro Sieben, Mo., 23.6.2008, 20.15 Uhr:

Thank you for standing by me!

I do not have the words to express how much your kindness and concern mean to me... how much YOU mean to me. Your messages are so sweet. My uncle's services were yesterday. I must admit we were a bit paranoid about answering the phone when we made it home afterward. These last few days are such a blur. I appreciate you standing by me through this ordeal! You are the best!

Thank you from my entire family.... and myself, of course :)

TV.com article about our DirecTV campaign to Save Moonlight

Enterprising Moonlight fans are getting the word out to various media outlets about our efforts to save our show! Tim Surette ( from TV.com ) has written an article regarding the DirecTV campaign.

Rumor: DirecTV looking at adopting Moonlight
By Tim Surette

Could the vampire drama be saved by the same people who saved Friday Night Lights?

There are hardcore fans, and there are hardcore fans. The guy with the Dwight Schrute bobblehead doll on his desk? He's kind of hardcore. Moonlight fans? They're really hardcore.

Moonlight fans are attempting to pull a Jericho with the recently canceled vampire drama, making it undead. They've put the line out there in attempts to hook a new network or television provider for Moonlight, and it looks like they may have at least a nibble.

According to Moonlight fan site Moonlight Line, which is attempting to resurrect the show, DirecTV has inquired about possibly picking up the program. Though DirecTV may seem like an odd choice--basic-cablers such as Sci Fi Channel seemed possible destinations--the satellite service has already acted as life preserver for another well-loved drama treading water.

In April, it was officially announced that DirecTV had reached a deal with NBC to keep Friday Night Lights on the air. The unique arrangement would see DirecTV have first-airing rights, with NBC rebroadcasting the show four months later.

It's unclear what DirecTV has plotted for Moonlight, but the company is apparently interested in at least considering something. According to one of the board's higher-ups, DirecTV asked the site to post a poll asking what members thought of DirecTV sponsoring the show. The poll is up with the following three answers: "No problem, I already have DirecTV," "I'll switch to DirecTV in a hot second," and "Not switching."

The results of the simple market research would then be looked over by DirecTV who would determine if any of this makes financial sense. As of press time, 21 percent said they already have DirecTV, 71 percent said they would switch, and seven percent said they wouldn't switch.

This is great news for Moonlight fans, but probably best to hold off on hosting a bloodsucking party until something official comes out.

DirecTv poll ~ Would you become a subscriber?

Several thoughtful fans passed on this information to me. Thank you! You have been wonderful about making it easier for me to keep up to date during these horrible days when I have limited time online.

You are doing a fantastic job of contacting not only the networks, but also flooding DirecTv with mail asking them to step up to financially sponsor a second season of Moonlight :) Now, Leeser ( from Moonlightline ) has posted a poll at their request. She has said that they will be monitoring the numbers. Apparently, they want to get an idea of fan willingness to subscribe to their service ~ if they arrange a deal with Moonlight similar to what they did for Friday Night Lights.

Note : If you would like to vote, you must become a member of the forum first.

If DirecTV does indeed decide to help sponsor the show, would you switch toDirecTV as your service provider, do you already HAVE DirecTV, or will youNOT switch at all?

No problem. I already have DirecTV!
I'll switch to DirecTV in a hot second!
Not switching.
